* In ''Manga/PhantomThiefJeanne'', Jeanne/Maron's first kiss is stolen by her rival Kaitou Sinbad, [[spoiler:who is her later love interest Chiaki in disguise.]]
* In ''Anime/CodeGeass'', the StudentCouncilPresident Milly holds an impromptu school-wide contest: Anyone who manages to catch the cat running around campus will get a kiss from a Student Council member of their choice. Two of the girls on the student council, Shirley and Kallen, team up to try and catch the cat, horrified by the thought that someone might steal their first kiss.
* In ''Anime/MobileSuitGundam00'', Setsuna F. Seiei has his first kiss stolen by the {{Yandere}} Nena Trinity but pushes her away violently in response. It doesn't help that Setsuna HatesBeingTouched in the first place and Nena has next to no concept of personal space.
* In ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'', [[HeroesWantRedheads Asuka]] claims her first kiss from [[LoveInterest Shinji]]. Unfortunately, their personal issues ruined it (Asuka tried to pretend it was not a big deal in case Shinji rejected her; and how Shinji couldn't believe she returned his affection and she was pretending it was not a big deal, he did nothing, and Asuka believed he was rejecting her). Cue Asuka running to the bath to gargle so she could hide how deeply hurt she felt about his lack of reaction, and Shinji feeling worse about himself.

* ''VisualNovel/AkaneIroNiSomaruSaka'' has Junichi, thinking he should act like a man, decide to lay one on Yuuhi, the girl he saved earlier. Yuuhi, being pure Kugimiya {{tsundere}}, promptly [[GroinAttack kicks the hell out of him]]. It's not until later that he finds out she was his [[ArrangedMarriage fiancée]]. Awkward.
* In ''Anime/NadiaTheSecretOfBlueWater'', Jean and Nadia's first kiss happens [[KissingUnderTheInfluence when the former is stoned by hallucinogenic mushrooms(!)]]. Later, [[spoiler:Nadia is angry at Jean after their second kiss because he can't remember their first]]. This reset-pressing moment only succeeds in making this "development" more like a cruel tease instead of a genuine development for either character.

** At the very end of the story [[spoiler:the two of them share their ''real'' first kiss, with several books' worth of build-up. Kaname promised they'd kiss the next time they saw each other, which was six months before; when they finally meet up (and there aren't extenuating circumstances), they're in front of their high school at graduation. She's initially embarrassed at the idea of kissing in front of ''all'' her classmates, but Sousuke simply smiles and says "[[CatchPhrase Not a problem]]." The classmates positively CHEER when they get TheBigDamnKiss.]]

This is mostly because, unlike most Western countries, where kissing is between moderately special and outright mundane, kissing is seen as an extraordinarily intimate act in Japan, almost comparable in intimacy to sex in the West. It is not done in public (anime characters who ''do'' kiss in public are either shameless, extremely daring, {{Eagleland}}ers, or [[KissingDiscretionShot censored from the audience's view]]), and parents do not kiss where their children can see them. In effect, the first kiss is the harbinger of a teenager's entry into sexual maturity.

* It must be noted that it is not at all uncommon for one or both... participants in a given H-Manga to be more worried about the first kiss than their actual virginity.

* ''VisualNovel/TokimekiMemorialGirlsSide 2'' sets up an AccidentalKiss early in the game. If it happens with Hikami Itaru, he worries anxiously that the heroine has "lost something important," clearly with this trope in mind.

* ''Literature/ShakuganNoShana'' devotes a whole episode to explaining the "milestone" nature to its title character.
** This trope is taken so seriously for the main couple Shana and Yuji that while this series has incestuous deep kissing by Aizen's siblings as well as Margery's and Keisaku's kiss and implied sex scene, Yuji and Shana only kiss once in the last episode of the anime. Considering the episode mentioned above treats kissing as some sort of marriage proposal, it's no wonder.

* This trope is used to save the world in ''Literature/HaruhiSuzumiya''.
** In another short story, Kyon is offered the sleeping Mikuru's first kiss (not his, obviously) by her older self. It is left unclear whether he takes it or not, but he [[UnreliableNarrator claims not to have.]]

* ''Literature/FullMetalPanic'':
** Kaname Chidori's first kiss is [[spoiler:stolen by Tessa's older brother Leonard, who ends up becoming the story's BigBad. Kaname slaps him and "promises" to forgive him only if he spares the life of the Mithril intelligence agent who's been watching over her. After Leonard leaves, Kaname breaks down crying because she'll never get to give her first kiss to Sousuke, and for the next couple of novels she hides what happened from Sousuke out of shame.]]
** Interestingly, in Sousuke's case, he lost his first kiss long ago while performing CPR on ''men''. [[ChasteHero Not, of course, that he even knows the difference between a kiss and CPR]]. "A Turkish soldier who took a bullet to the stomach, an old man from Tajyuku who was caught in an explosion. Some of them survived. Some of them didn't."

* In ''Series/DrakeAndJosh'', Josh receives a ForcefulKiss from Drake's girlfriend. Just when Drake walks into the room, right when Josh tries to explain what happened, he takes a moment to thank god for receiving his first kiss.

* ''WesternAnimation/MiraculousLadybug'': Apparently, the two leads thinks this. Marinette once nearly kissed Adrien, thinking he was his own wax statue. And she states afterwards it would've been one very silly first kiss. Granted, [[FakeFirstKiss she already kissed him as Cat noir]], but in order to cure him from a HatePlague. She was horrified to discover (on a photo), in ''Oblivio'', that they kissed again while they had amnesia.Cat noir himself knows they kissed twice, but can't remember both times and wish there would be a proper time to do so. That's why, as Adrien, he backs up and states that he thought it "would be different" (i.e. with Ladybug instead), when Kagami tries to kiss him. * In ''Anime/FullMoon'', Takuto spends a whole episode preventing Mitsuki from sharing this with a boy who just wants to embarrass her, and it turns out [[spoiler: a {{dramatic wind}} knocks Mitsuki and Takuto into an implied accidental kiss]].
** The manga has Takuto give an [[DudeShesLikeInAComa unconscious]] Mitsuki a kiss, thinking that she'll cry because it's her first kiss and then admits that it was just CPR. * Kind of Subverted in ''Manga/VampireKnight''. Yuuki and Kaname's first kiss wasn't especially pleasant, as [[spoiler:the kiss scene depicted as quite forceful and Yuuki was struggling so break free (it's an understandable reaction for a girl who wakes up in that situation)]] But in the end turned out that... [[spoiler: there is no first kiss to argue or fuss over since Kaname fed Yuuki since she was little by mouth]].

* ''Fanfic/OlivineRomance'', a ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'' fanfic: In Part 2, Jasmine runs Morty ragged with one herculean task after another, with the promise of giving him her first kiss as a reward. Morty correctly deduces that Jasmine is both testing him to see if he truly loves her, and trying to put off this relationship upgrade for as long as possible. He eventually perseveres and gets his kiss atop the light house [[spoiler: only for Jasmine to break down into tears and admit it was not her first kiss. This is especially shocking as, up until that point, Jasmine had been depicted as an innocent, romance-averse prude.]]
