** In a patch that enabled a dungeon called the Nightmare, the developers made a few severe oversights, one of which is known as the Five Shark. The Five Shark is a reference to an item card on a pet called Fire Shark. However, the developers accidentally made it so using it would make it hit the player 5 times, which was rampantly abused in PvP environments. It's currently unknown what has happened or if anything will happen to those who have knowingly abused this, but it's speculated that anyone abusing it in large amounts will get banned, and lesser offenders would get their rank reset.

*** Cheat in the game, and after beating the champion, you will be arrested, just before you register your team in the Hall of Fame. This effectively soft-locks your game, trapping your character in a jail cell forever. There's a noose in the corner, labeled [[DrivenToSuicide "the easy way out"]], but using it ''deletes your save file''. Note that things like emulator save states are fair game; the game will do this only if you do stuff like hacking items in or getting Legendary Pokemon you have no possible way to obtain before becoming Champion illegitimately.
*** As of Version 1.2, '''''DO NOT EVEN BOTHER''''' trying to activate a "Walk Through Walls" cheat in an attempt to skip some of the obstacles or get into a place where you have no business being in before you even complete the Elite Four because if you pull that stunt, the game will immediately teleport you to that room. As in, straight away, no matter where you are when the code is activated. But, should you be stupid enough to do that, you can delete the code from your cheat list; merely disabling the WTW cheat is not enough because the game still thinks you have it on, thus triggering the failsafe. Though, if you didn't think to save your game and/or make a save state before you activated the code, well... it really sucks to be you, in that case.

* "Slam Tilt" is a now-obsolete variant which would detect dishonest players tampering with the coin mechanism (either tricking it into thinking a coin had been inserted when it hadn't, or trying to steal the coin box itself). Whereas a TILT would only cost you your current ball, a Slam Tilt results in a NonstandardGameOver for ''all'' players and voids any credits in the machine, locking the machine down until the owner can unlock it using a special key or code. * In the ChessVariant game ''King of the Bridge'', performing a move that is against the rules and being caught will allow the opponent to perform any one move regardless of its legality. Doing this yourself will usually cause you to lose - which is intentional, as the complete rulebook is obscured until you start (accidentally) performing rules violations. The gimmick of the game is that ''you'' can do this to the AI; correctly calling out your opponent's cheats will allow you to cheat for free, but [[spoiler:winning by using cheats will cause you to become the next troll. To achieve the good ending, you must defeat the troll in a game without performing any illegal moves, even when given the opportunity]].

''VideoGame/TheNightmareOfDruagaFushiginoDungeon'' won't ''stop'' you from doing this per se, but reloading your game after doing so will subject you to a frustratingly long unskippable lecture about the consequences of tampering with the flow of time, followed by a rapid-fire yes/no question and answer session that will ''kill you'' if you answer wrong.

Most players are savvy enough to smuggle hacked "legal" Pokémon through (illegally created Pokémon with legal stats/movesets/etc.), but occasionally multiple players get sloppy and have carbon copies of multiple Pokémon with the exact same internal data, which is a dead giveaway for hacked Pokémon.

*** However, it's also had a much more long-term and, more importantly, hard-hitting consequence: Tux is forever untradable. The earlier OSX equivalent to Tux, the Earbuds, were one of the most valuable items in the trading circuit. Since it can only be assumed that the main reason for said cheating is that a similar jump in value for Tux would surely follow, this assures that the cheaters walk away with little more than a worthless penguin.

** In a patch released after the Azteca raid, the developers accidentally made it so as soon as it was started, it was considered "beaten". At the time, no one has completed it, so seeing people with the reward gear seemed suspicious. It turned out that entering it gave people access to a [[BribingYourWayToVictory loot rerolling chest]], which wasn't supposed to happen until it was beaten for real. The developers weren't entirely sure how to handle it, so they allowed people to keep their gear, but if the chest was opened more than 4 times by an account, they were given a temporary suspension. Since then, the dungeon was beaten legitimately, but a lot of people with the gear still may be looked at as cheaters.
** On accident, a GameForge employee leaked a file called CSR.wad which is a file that's supposed to be exclusive to use by the customer support team (standing for Customer Support Resources). Some people have grabbed this file and discovered that the game will load it if it's placed in the installation directory. The developers will automatically permanently ban any account (and probably device too) for using this. It's intended to be used with the purpose of things like restoring accidentally deleted or sold items, restoring deleted characters, helping players get their quest back if something happened where they lost access to their main quest and so on. Of course, in the hands of a player, it's easily abusable.
