alt title(s): Hellsing Ultimate
"In the Name of God, impure souls of the living dead shall be banished into eternal damnation. Amen."
"The Bird of Hermes is my name, eating my wings to make me tame."
The mysterious Hellsing Organization's job is to protect Great Britain from those who prey on the living- and their chief operative is none other than the incredibly powerful vampire " Alucard". He doesn't have to use guns (with explosive holy bullets, Improbable Aiming Skills and near- Bottomless Magazines, no less) to kill other vampires and anyone else in his way, but he sure does like to.
Alucard faithfully serves the leader of Hellsing, Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing. Her devotion to Anglican Church and the Queen prompts her to swiftly erase any threats towards them from existence and she sees no problem with employing the undead to destroy the undead.
The same cannot be said of Hellsing's rival, the fanatic Iscariot Division of the Catholic Church. They consider Hellsing little better than the monsters they hunt, and their champion, the paladin Father Alexander Anderson, is just as bloodthirsty and as apparently unkillable as Alucard.
Enter Seras Victoria, the sole surviving member of a police squad killed by a vampire. Alucard offered her undeath as she lay dying, and she accepted. Firstly, acting as the comic relief among other duties, her weight as character increases only after the second half of the story. Together with Integra and Alucard, they discover a new kind of mass produced undead that isn't bound to the traditional rules of Draculs and Draculinas.
Exists as the original Manga, a television series (made from Seras' perspective) and an OVA series. The two animated adaption are not in continuity with each other but retell the manga as Alternate Continuities with the OVA being the closer adaption.
Theres also a prequel, Hellsing: The Dawn which focus on Alucard and a young Walter during World War 2. Did I mention Alucard is a girl in this version? So far there are only six chapters to the manga. Its unknown if the author, Hirano Kouta, will continue it (as he working on a new manga, Drifters). But its been reported it will be animated in the new OVA.
