Harry Potter: Into The Fire is a
MUSH based on the
Harry Potter book series, currently taking place in an
Alternate Continuity version of the events of
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It's still quite new but it has quite a community.
Provides examples of:
- Broad Strokes (The game uses the Broad Strokes of the Goblet of Fire storyline as a jumping-off point. Notably, the Quidditch World Cup goes off without a hitch- it's the All-Star Cup that gets attacked. And instead of the Triwizard Tournament, there's a Quad-wizard Tournament with one contestant from each house at Hogwarts.) Some purist fans will undoubtedly think They Changed It, Now It Sucks, but the game wouldn't be very interesting if the same story lines from the book were just repeated verbatim so Your Mileage May Vary.
- Adults Are Useless (Is Harry Potter not a series that revolves around this during Hogwarts months?)
- Dude Looks Like a Lady (Rene. "Played by" a female. He also happens to be extremely small but fiery. Bonus points because he is also French.)
- Fix Fic (Several things have gone better for the good guys so far than in canon: Moody is by Word Of God the real one, Umbridge has been arrested, and Sirius got a pardon. Of course, other things might go wrong in the future...)
- Make The Dog Testify (Does it count when someone has to turn into a dog as part of his testimony?)
- Shout Out and Captain Ersatz (Several characters are "played by" actors from Doctor Who and act similarly to their Who counterparts. Also, Bean is an Expy of his namesake from Ender's Game.)
- Celebrity Paradox (This includes one character "played by" David Tennant, who already had a role in the movie- the similarity is not explained, and as the canon character involved doesn't seem to be showing up, it will likely not be an issue.)
- Teacher tropes Include: Badass Teacher (All of them), Sadist Teacher (Snape) , Stern Teacher (Mcgonagall), Retired Badass (Moody), Badass Grandpa (several, including Dumbledore)
- Keep The Reward (Ashley plans on donating his winnings (if he does) from the Quad-wizard Tournament to the Hogwarts school fund)
- Incorruptible Pure Pureness (Ashley)
- Trapped in Another World (The wrackspurt detector arc)
