Green and Mean

Green is a color often associated with evil, and many villains have a green motif- usually in the form of hair, skin, clothing, or powers. As a widely occurring color in nature (reptiles, amphibians, and plant life), but one that doesn't appear naturally in humans — apart from a comparatively rare eye color — it has connotations of being alien. Green is also frequently associated with poison and — largely thanks to William Shakespeare — envy. Green skin or some form of green essence is often a feature of the Wicked Witch.

Heroes who oppose such villains frequently choose red as their signature color, resulting in a Red/Green Contrast.

A Sub-Trope of Good Colors, Evil Colors and Secondary Color Nemesis, and Super-Trope to Sickly Green Glow. Watch out for Green Is Gross.

Advertising

• "Mr. Yuk is mean... Mr. Yuk is green!" More of a Good is Not Nice example, since in spite of his supposed meanness and pants-wettingly creepy PSA, Mr. Yuk is trying to warn kids not to mess with any stuff that has his face on it.

Anime & Manga

• Astro Boy Pluto, the massive horned robot, was colored black and grey respectively in the original manga and cartoon, but is turned military green for 2003 series. Very fitting, since he operates like a tank, but subverted since he turns good.
• It is fairly rare in Berserk, as red and black are more common color schemes for the Apostles, but there a few examples:
  • The unnamed female Apostle that kills Corkus and has sex with Guts before getting killed is colored green◊ in the manga, though she is black in the anime and movie.
  • Slan of The God Hand has green tentacle-like hair and a green hue to her skin, and she's probably the most depraved and openly sadistic member of the God Hand next to Griffith/Femto.
  • Rosine only has one appearance outside the manga, where she's colored green and emits a glow.
  • Irvine, the reborn Griffith's archer in his Apostle form◊, is a Nice Guy but nevertheless since he works for Griffith he's still effectively an antagonist.
• Black Clover: Jack the Ripper wears green, the color of his squad, and while a Magic Knight Captain he's still a bloodthirsty guy with a love for cutting things up.
• While Ulquiorra from Bleach has a white body, his eyes are green, and his Battle Aura in his Segunda Etapa form gives off a Sickly Green Glow. He also beats the absolute shit of Ichigo when they fight, and the latter only wins when he gets his hollow form.
• Daimos: Kyoshiro is The Gadfly and enjoys irking Nana and Kazuya. He also dresses in a green trenchcoat.
• Many villains from Dragon Ball are green colored; though purple is the standard (purple is often associated with death in Japan), the green villains are more unique.
  • The Crane School's color is green◊, which serves as a contrast to their rival the orange-colored Turtle School and represents their different (more deadly) nature. Subverted in retrospect with Tien and Chiaotzu who turned good and even stop wearing green themselves, though in Dragon Ball Super the students in Tien's school wear green.
  • Demon King Piccolo, the first truly dangerous Big Bad of Dragon Ball, is very green and very mean, technically the strongest person on Earth before Goku shows up; Piccolo was even based on King Nero of Rome according to Toriyama's editor at the time. Of course, subverted as King Piccolo's reincarnation becomes good and good friend to Goku and his son.
  • Played straight in the non-canon times where Piccolo becomes evil again, like in Dragon Ball Z: The World's Strongest where he's Brainwashed and Crazy and tries to kill Gohan, and Majin Piccolo from Dragon Ball Z Supersonic Warriors 2.
  • Zarbon is DBZ's standout when it comes to The Fighting Narcissist, has green hair and turquoise skin, and kills innocent Namekians with gusto. Zarbon also has a monstrous transformation where he loses all his Bishōnen beauty.
  • The Ginyu Force has the green-skinned Guldo. Though he's the weakest of the team and is generally treated like a joke, he's still a member of Frieza's elite mercenaries and nearly killed Gohan and Krillin had Vegeta not stepped in.
  • The grasshopper-looking Cell is a powerful villain rivaling Frieza in terms of antagonist popularity; he was created using the cells of Z-Fighters and successfully killed Trunks twice and forced Goku to perform a Heroic Sacrifice. While his forms may vary along with his attitude which goes from conniving, brutish to relaxed, one thing stays the constant about Cell — he is very evil and very green.
  • The eponymous antagonist from Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug. When we first see him the only thing about that's green is his face, until he rips off his helmet and gloves and he is revealed as a Namekian, and an evil ancient one to boot. Slug brutalized Goku with his giant form and only lost thanks to a combination of Gohan whistling and Piccolo giving Goku his energy.
  • Broly as well◊, despite not technically being colored green, but with hair and Ki aura having a Sickly Green Glow (which is rare for villains); Super Saiyans are normally gold colored. The suggestion is that Broly is unnatural, even for Saiyans standards, and the green hue is part of the unhinged "Legendary" transformation. In his first canon apperance in Dragon Ball Super: Broly, his outfit has several green-colored sections.
  • Zamasu from Dragon Ball Super is green skinned and extremely sadistic, narcissistic and pessimistic about mortals. Zamasu single-handedly makes Trunks' Bad Future even worse and nearly destroys everything until the timeline was erased.
• Fairy Tail:
  • Master Zero of the Oracion Seis wears a dark-green military-like outfit and wields Darkness Magic colored with a Sickly Green Glow, and he's one of the most unrepentantly evil beings in the series who just wants to destroy everything and everyone.
  • Azuma of Grimoire Heart, who fittingly of his green attire has nature powers; but add combustion powers to that and the heroes were in for a rough time, especially Erza, who takes a brutal beating from the villain.
  • Gajeel's magic power is depicted as being green in the anime, and he debuted as The Dragon to Jose Porla and an Evil Counterpart to Natsu who brutalized several Fairy Tail members badly. Even after he makes a Heel–Face Turn and joins Fairy Tail to lighten up, he's still the definition of Good Is Not Soft.
• Heavy Object:
  • Prizewell City Slicker, who is mostly dressed in Green in the anime, is not only an elite of the Legitimacy Kingdom's 24th Mechanized Maintenance Batalion, but also is one of the most xenophobic antagonists in the series, specifically he seeks to either enslave or slaughter those who don't speak the official language.
  • Skuld Silent-Third of the Faith Organization wears a green bodysuit. While she seems like an innocent elite, she is really a serial killer who has no qualms in regards to who her targets are, which range from soldiers on her own side to innocent civillains.
• Meruem◊, the Big Bad Chimera Ant King from Hunter × Hunter, makes Cell from DBZ looks reasonable. Despite being a newborn, he can smash heads off with one swipe of his tail and brutalized Netero with Super-Speed, even ripping the old man's limbs clean off. Meruem is also the Last of His Kind.
• Mazinger Z: Big Bad Dr. Hell always wears a tight green uniform.
• Naruto has a couple examples; Haku has teal clothing and is one of the first antagonists in the series, the already-evil Kabuto is even more evil and green in his Snake Sage form◊; and there's White Zetsu and Black Zetsu (the latter is more obviously evil), who both have green hair.
• In Tamagotchi, the Show Within a Show Gotchiman features a villain named Black Hat who is mainly green and black in color.
• Voltes V: Subverted. Heinel's iconic mink coat is blue, but some pieces of supplementary material depict it as green. Like here^note The artist signature on the bottom left is of Akihiro Kanayama, the Voltes V's character designer and animation director.

Asian Animation

• In Happy Heroes, Big M., who wants to invade Planet Xing, wears a suit of green and black armor.

Comic Books

Marvel Universe:

• Captain America: The terrorist organization Hydra are dressed in green.
• Doctor Strange:
  • Baron Mordo, Strange's most prominent Evil Counterpart dresses in green and was taught by the Ancient One the same as Strange but grew jealous when discovered Strange would be the Sorcerer Supreme and not him and frequently tried to kill Strange before and after the death of The Ancient One. Though he is given a Race Lift in the movie he still wears green.
    • Nightmare is also an opposite of Strange and what he stands for, being omniscient entity of horror who draws power from the subconscious mind; and sticking point is you can't destroy him as doing so would drive humanity insane.
  • Shuma Gorath is a disgusting green one-eyed multi dimensional tentacle monster who is the ruler of chaos. Not only is Gorath a colossal pain to Strange but also everybody else when he shows up.
• Fantastic Four:
  • Doctor Doom has a green cloak, tunic and hood, though long time readers will recognize that Doom isn't quite as evil as his attire and name would suggest. But since most of Doom schemes are Take Over the World and destroying those who appose his plans this trope still very much applies to Doom. Doom eventually traded the Green attire for a white one.
  • Annihilus◊ like the Skrulls and Green Goblin has the green and purple coloring but far exceeds most Marvel villains in terms of power. Not only did Annihilus beat the shit out of Thanos, but he even put Galactus on the ropes.
  • The Skrulls are a race of reptilian super beings who can shapeshift and have Power Copying. These mean green bastards have invaded Earth frequently and often without the Heroes noticing, the give away is whenever they revert back to their green skin.
  • The Badoon are another race of reptilian aliens who are outright Omnicidal Maniacs. The Skrulls are shown as having some good traits or members of their species who are alright when you get to know them. The Badoon? Nuh-uh. Like the Skrulls, the Badoon are colored block green.
• Guardians of the Galaxy: Ronan the Accuser the enemy of the Fantastic Four and more commonly Guardians of the Galaxy wears green in the comics.
• The Incredible Hulk: The eponymous green-skinned character can be pretty destructive at times. His archenemies, the Leader and the Abomination, also fit here.
• Spider-Man: Most villains have green skin or wear green costumes, including the Green Goblin, Lizard, Mysterio, Sandman, Electro, Vulture, Scorpion, and Doctor Octopus. This is most likely due to Secondary Color Nemesis and red/green Color Contrast.
• Spider-Woman: Charlotte Witter, the fourth Spider-Woman and the only one to be a villain, wears a green, Stripperiffic outfit.

The DCU:

• Superman:
  • In Krypton No More the soldiers of an invading alien civilization known as the J'ai wear dark green Powered Armor.
  • Misa is more an amoral thrill seeker than evil, but prior to her Heel–Face Turn was rather cruel and wears a green ensemble with matching lipstick and eyeshadow.
  • Since her first appearance in The Great Phantom Peril, Kryptonian rogue Faora Hu-Ul has worn a pale-green skintight outfit.
  • Composite Superman has green skin, along with being a case of Red and Black and Evil All Over due to his hair and costume. Ironically, his costume also features blue and yellow, which when paired with red normally ascribe to heroic characters.
  • In Superman vs. Shazam!, Karmang, the mad scientist/evil sorcerer who plans to destroy two parallel Earths, wears a light-green full bodysuit.
  • In The Plague of the Antibiotic Man, Amalak and his pawns Jevik and Nam-Ek wear green clothes. Likewise, Amalak's living energy constructs are green.
  • Pre-Crisis Mad Scientist Lesla-Lar, who tried to steal Supergirl's life out of envy in The Unknown Supergirl, take over the world in The Girl with the X-Ray Mind and kill Kara in Strangers at the Heart's Core, wore a green outfit.
  • In Demon Spawn Nightflame◊ dresses a full-body, tight, green suit. She is a Flaming Sword-wielding warrior and sorceress.
  • In Supergirl (1982) #21, Supergirl and Superman fight an incarnation of Kryptonite Man which is completely green-skinned.
  • In Bizarrogirl, Godship and its spawn are green giant bugs.
• Batman has villains clad in green, such as The Riddler, and Mad Hatter, as well as villains who are physically green, such as Poison Ivy, Killer Croc. The Joker also has green hair and often a green vest or shirt.
• Teen Titans: The villainess Cheshire has green as a Color Motif and is almost wearing green-colored attires both as a civilian and in her villain outfit. She's also a Dark Action Girl known for being mean and manipulative.
• Robin (1993): Tim Drake faced recurring green clad foes Tapeworm and Jager as Robin and Sac, Whip and the green armored member of the Covenant of Ka as Red Robin.
• Legion Of Superheroes: The aptly named Emerald Empress is the leader of the villain team, the Fatal Five, and wears green clothing and even has green hair.
• Wonder Woman:
  • Wonder Woman (1942): Wonder Woman's rogue's gallery in The Silver Age included the Crimson Centipede, an abomination of a man with green skin and 100 arms and legs with Guns Akimbo, created by Ares, the God of War.
  • Wonder Woman 600: The Ivan Reis, Oclair Albert and Rod Reis collaboration depicts villainous Medusa with dark green skin and long sharp fangs even on her human face.
• Doom Patrol villain Garguax is an alien conqueror who happens to have green skin.

Others

• Sonic the Hedgehog Comics:
  • Archie Comics: Scourge the Hedgehog is Sonic's Mirror Universe counterpart, embodying everything Sonic is against. Whilst he was originally blue like Sonic, him attempting to harness the Master Emerald's power until being knocked off of it midway through transformation by Knuckles' father, Locke, caused Scourge to turn a ghastly green, which he has maintained ever since and is just as malicious as he's always been.
  • IDW: Surge the Tenrec, Scourge's Suspiciously Similar Substitute, is another antithesis to Sonic, being brainwashed by Dr. Starline into being an Ax-Crazy, Psycho Electro powerhouse specifically designed to rival Sonic in speed and power. Unlike Scourge, however, who became green thanks to mutation from Chaos Energy, Surge has always been green before she was taken in by Starline.

Fan Works

• Danganronpa: Memento Mori: Haruhi, who wears a green florist's smock, is The Fatalist who repeatedly unsettles other students with her pessimistic thoughts on the Killing Game. Luka, who wears mint green scrubs, appears contrastingly to be a rather peppy and upbeat girl. Until she gets exposed as a Depraved Dentist moonlighting as a Serial Killer, making her even worse than Haruhi.
• Zig-zagged in Danganronpa: Paradise Lost: Goh wears a green tracksuit and is a Lovable Jock willing to encourage others, while Shion has green hair and is The Atoner desperate to make up for her past misdeeds. On the other hand, Akihiro wears a green sweater, and is an Insufferable Genius who ultimately commits murder, showing absolutely no remorse for either it or deliberately fusing his own sister with a lab rat.
• In Power Girl story A Force of Four, villain Mala wears a green outfit.
  He was black-haired, resembled her late cousin quite a bit, and was dressed in a red and green outfit with a green triangle upon his chest.
• Children of an Elder God: Amaliel, Asuka's first adversary she fought and killed was a lime-green, gelatinous Sea Monster packed with claws, pincers and tentacles.
• In Once More with Feeling, Sachiel, the third Angel, is described as green-skinned.
  Its 'skin' was a verdant green, covering its dangling arms and long legs, punctuated by white, bony-looking structures over its shoulders and along its flanks, offset by a huge red sphere embedded in its chest.
• Though not a straight-up villain, Konotegashiwa of Tales of the Undiscovered Swords wears mainly green due to his being associated with the platycladus orientalis plant and his veganism. He is a Wicked Cultured Straw Vegetarian who bullies and manipulates others into veganism.
• In Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Supergirl crossover The Vampire of Steel, Zol-Am, a Kryptonian vampire, wears green.
• All Mixed Up!: Mariana Mag, the Big Bad of the story, is described as having eyes that are "a piercing green" but doesn't have green as an overall theme color outside of that. She has orange as a theme color instead.

Film — Animated

• Cars:
  • Chick Hicks, the Big Bad of the first Cars movie, is a bright green racecar.
  • Also, Sir Miles Axlerod, the villain of Cars 2, is a bright green Lemon posing as an electric car.
• Subverted in Encanto. The green-cloaked Bruno is set up to be an antagonistic, foreboding figure (hence "we don't talk about Bruno"). However, when he finally appears in person, he turns out to be a shy, sweet man, and the main people protagonist Mirabel has conflict with are her red-dressed grandmother and lavender-dressed sister.
• The Toad from Flushed Away is the Big Bad of the movie and is, well, take a wild guess.

Film — Live-Action

• The Elf: The elf doll is decked out in a green hat and coat, and is brought to life to kill everyone on its naughty list (which is everyone in the house).
• The Green Knight: Subverted. The titular warrior, though the movie's primary antagonist, doesn't display overly malicious qualities. In fact, he shows qualities desirable in any half-decent knight.
• Halloweentown: The villain Kalabar is a greenish scarecrow-like guy.
• Heathers: Heather Duke, the Beta Bitch, is colour coded with green (she's even forced to play as green in the Heathers' croquet game). After Heather Chandler's death, she's the one who becomes the new Alpha Bitch. Notably Heather McNamara, who's coded with yellow, is nicer than the other two.
• Land of Oz:
  • The Wizard of Oz: The Wicked Witch of the West is also far more evil in the film than the original book, where she has no green skin.
  • Oz the Great and Powerful: The Wicked Witch doesn't gain her green skin until after her Face–Heel Turn and even then she's still hot. Likewise the Wicked Witch Evanora wears several green gowns, and an emerald pendant.
• Marvel Cinematic Universe:
  • It's almost a Running Gag that some of the best villains dress in green; Loki, The Vulture and Hela.
  • Captain Marvel (2019): Heavily played with. The Skrulls have green skin, but are eventually revealed to be the victims of a long-running genocide campaign by the Kree, who presented themselves as fighting against the Skrulls' menace. Kree war uniforms are colored green, silver, and black, but when Carol Danvers (p.k.a. Veers) discovers the truth, she sheds the Kree colors and adopts her signature Captain Marvel aesthetic of red, gold, and blue.
• Mortal Kombat: Annihilation: Jade wears green and is The Mole for Shao Kahn. In the games she is a good guy but is a villain in the movie.
• Power Rangers (2017): Rita Repulsa is made into the former Green Ranger for this continuity, and is the most heinous incarnation of the character yet.
• The Return of the King: Minas Morgul is bathed in a Sickly Green Glow.
• Star Wars: Played straightest in the original trilogy, where many of the Empire's ships - TIE Fighters, Star Destroyers, and both Death Stars - shoot green lasers. Subverted much more often in the prequels, where many accomplished jedi wield green lightsabers, and weapons and starfighters used by the Naboo fire green lasers. A mix of both in the sequels; the New Order's Starkiller base fires a gigantic red/yellow laser, but Star Destroyers' are still green.

Literature

• The Adventures of Pinocchio: At one point, Pinocchio is captured in the net of the Green Fisherman, a big, brutish, gluttonous, lizard-looking creep with green skin and hair, who believes Pinocchio to be a type of uncommon fish and happily decides to fry him and have a taste of him, even though Pinocchio keeps telling him that he's not a fish and cries for help the entire time. Pinocchio is rescued by the dog Alidoro, and they get chased by the furious Green Fisherman until he's too out of breath to run more.
• The Adventures of Strong Vanya: The evil Och, also known as "The Green Devil", is a dragon-like creature who enjoys terrorizing peasants and destroying villages and forests.
• The Chronicles of Amber: Each of Amber's princess and princesses have their color or colors. Green is the color of Brand, who is the undisputed villain of the first five books.
• Harry Potter: Mostly played straight. Slytherin - the House most infamous for turning out dark wizards - has green and silver as its colors. Certain "dark" spells - such as the Killing Curse and Dark Mark - are also green.
  • Subverted most obviously by Harry's bright green eyes; inherited from his mother Lily, who was widely praised not only for her magical skills, but for her love, courage, and virtue.
• The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Vogons, a species of Fat Bastard Obstructive Bureaucrat aliens, are described as green-skinned.
• The Wicked Years: Ambiguously Evil Elphaba was born with green skin because of a potion her mother was given. She was a Creepy Child, grew up normal, and then became an extremist as an adult. Elphaba eventually grows into the Wicked Witch of the West.
• Scary Godmother: Subverted. Hannah Marie is originally scared of the green-skinned Scary Godmother, but she quickly finds out that Scary Godmother is a cool Fairy Godmother instead.
• The Silver Chair: The Lady of the Green Kirtle's attire is self-explanatory. She also burns a supernatural green incense to bewitch the heroes' minds, and can turns into an enormous green snake.

Live-Action TV

• Arrow. Inverted with main character Oliver Queen who wears a green outfit that he first used when marooned on a jungle island. In fact Oliver finally adopting the Code Name of Green Arrow at the start of Season 4 (as opposed to "The Hood" or "The Arrow") is done as a conscious effort to put his Anti-Hero image behind him.
• House of the Dragon: Heavily zig-zagged with House Hightower, who have green as one of their signature colors and whose political faction is called the Greens by the later episodes of Season 1. Although the story goes out out its way to emphasize Grey-and-Grey Morality, the Hightowers ARE the ones who deliberately misconstrue a king's dying words and use them as pretext for long-held plans, despite said plans' treasonous nature and many previous years of paying lip service.
• The Mighty Boosh has The Hitcher, the only recurring villain, who's an Ax-Crazy Hostile Hitchhiker with green skin and a twisted face.
• Once Upon a Time specifically mentions that the Wicked Witch of the West's green skin comes from her envy. When she abandons her chance at becoming good, the white jewel in her power centre turns green. Likewise at one point, she also draws a parallel between red and green apples - green are far more bitter.
• Power Rangers:
  • Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: The very first example of an evil Ranger in the franchise was the Brainwashed and Crazy Green Ranger, Tommy Oliver. While under the control of Rita Repulsa, he was cold and vicious, particularly towards the Pink Ranger Kimberly. He was eventually freed from Rita's control and become a good guy.
  • Power Rangers in Space: Ecliptor is an alien with black armor covered in green Tron Lines and is the second-in-command to the villain Astronema. He does have redeeming qualities, though, namely his love for Astronema.
  • Power Rangers Lost Galaxy: Trakeena, who is the vain daughter of the evil warlord Scorpius, though she does have her more honorable moments despite her default trait. This gets intensified, however, when she got unfortunately merged with Deviot (who is more wicked than her), causing her to completely lose her sense of conscience.
  • Power Rangers Wild Force: The evil Org general Nayzor is green.
  • Power Rangers Ninja Storm: Choobo, one the lieutenants to the Big Bad Lothot, has green skin. On the heroic side, you have Cam the Green Ranger who starts out as something of an Insufferable Genius but mellows out over time. There was also an episode where Tori went to an alternate universe where the Rangers, including Cam, were evil.
  • Power Rangers Mystic Force: One of the Ten Terrors is Megahorn, a dragon-like creature with green skin. He stands out especially for being the first of the Terrors to break the "Rules of Darkness".
  • Power Rangers Jungle Fury: Camille is The Dragon to the Big Bad Dai Shi and wields the chameleon spirit which allows her to take the form of a green chameleon-like creature. She proves to be another subversion as she is makes a Heel–Face Turn.
  • Green Rangers are typically good guys. However, some evil Ranger teams have had their own Green Rangers. Examples include the A-Squad Rangers, the Cyborg Rangers and the the evil Time Force Rangers.
• Star Trek:
  • Romulans, described on camera as "the Federation's oldest enemy" are often represented by the color green, having green ships, green phasers and green uniforms. How antagonistic they are may depend on the plot though.
  • The Borg are mostly represented by Black, however their technology has a Sickly Green Glow.
  • Orions are green-skinned humanoids with black and red hair who often have the role of antagonists. They're famous for practicing different criminal activities like piracy, slave traffic and organized crime, and the Orion Syndicate is basically the space mafia. However the presence of good Orions who actuall fight the stereotype and face prejudice for is a plot point in many episodes.

Pinball

• Foo Fighters (2023): The Overlord, a green-colored alien, is the Big Bad and wishes to subjugate humanity to his whims (heavily implied to be out of jealousy towards the Foo Fighters themselves).

Professional Wrestling

• The two founding members of Diabolic Khaos, Delirious and MsChif originally wore white and black, respectively. Delirious's second mask and MsChif's second singlet were green and while Delirious has worn masks of many colors, each representing a different "personality", everything MsChif has worn has consistently had green on it somewhere and she's consistently a ruthless Blood Knight. "Green" Delirious is much goofier than she is, as well as White Delirious, Red Delirious and Black Delirious but all the same is known for striking people with a wooden stake.
• Peyton Royce calls herself the Venus Flytrap of NXT, and is The Bully to many of the other NXT girls. Her wardrobe is full of green outfits to go with the plant theme.

Roleplay

• In Dawn of a New Age: Oldport Blues, the mysterious Fog of Doom that envelops the main characters and very painfully grants them their superpowers is an unnatural shade of green.

Tabletop Games

• Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000:
  • Nurglite forces tends towards unhealthy green colors, and are among the most Affably Evil of all Chaos forces (their patron god of disease and decay being similar to Santa Claus in many ways).
• Paranoia: Internal Security likes to promote Dumb Muscle straight to Green clearance. The goons love the authority, plus they act as a Hate Sink to distract attention from their superiors. "You're thinking, 'They sound like orcs'. Nope— these are orcs you're not allowed to kill."
• Dungeons & Dragons: Goblins and especially orcs worship Gods of Evil and live and die by Rape, Pillage, and Burn. Dark-skinned orcs, like orogs and gray orcs exist, but most fall under various shades of green. Non-evil orcs are rare.

Theatre

• Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West: Everyone assumes she must be bad, because she is green. Eventually she decides Then Let Me Be Evil, but even then she's not actually malicious.

Toys

• G.I. Joe rarely had green-dressed characters in the Enemy ranks. Of the few Enemy characters that DID wear green were Dreadnoks’ Ripper, Cobra Night Vipers, Cobra Flak Vipers, the 1993 H.E.A.T Vipers, and select Python Patrol members from 1989.

Video Games

• The Warcraft orcs started off as Rape, Pillage, and Burn brutes lead by warlocks, but generally got better in the third game. Old-school splinter factions still exist, however.
• In Super Mario Bros., Bowser's head and shell are green. Furthermore, his sprite in Super Mario World gives him completely green skin.
• Zeena of the Deadly Six, a villainous group intending to Take Over the World from Sonic Lost World, is associated with the color green through both her hair and skin.
• Jet the Hawk in Sonic Riders is a green hawk and a competitive asshole.
• A few villains from the Klonoa series. For example, Garlen and Bagoo wear green, and the King of Sorrow has green fur.
• In BlazBlue, Yuuki Terumi/Hazama has green hair, and his Battle Aura takes the form of green energy shaped like snakes. His true form is a green Energy Being with a Slasher Smile.
• Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls: Monaca, who has green hair and eyes, turns out to be the most vilest of the Warriors of Hope.
• King K. Rool and several of the Kremlings and Kritters from Donkey Kong Country, who repeatedly antagonize the Kong Family ranging from stealing their bananas to kidnapping family members, have green scales.
• Gruntilda from Banjo-Kazooie has green skin, and she's also very mean. Klungo, her right-hand man, is also green and villainous to boot, until his Heel–Face Turn, that is. Her sisters Mingella and Blobbelda also have green skin and are just as evil as her. Brentilda, however, is an ally who gives hints to help in the final level.
• Lampshaded in Baldur's Gate 2, in a side-quest where your character gets interrogated by a Knight Templar. If you respond "green" to his question of what your favourite colour is, he instantly takes this as proof of your villainy as green is the colour of envy, poison, bile and rot (incidentally, he does this no matter what your answer is. To any of his questions.).
• Fallout:
  • Super Mutants have skin in various shades of green depending on which strain of the Forced Evolutionary Virus created them (Mariposa - dark green; Institute - dull gray-green; or Vault 87 - pale yellowish-green).
  • Creatures that have been irradiated to the point that they start to glow do so in a shade of green.
  • The Gunners of the fourth installment wear green armor and paint their robots green, in keeping with their military theme.
• Mōri Motonari in Sengoku Basara, who has been dubbed "Okra" by the fandom due to his color scheme, is a ruthless, cruel man who treats his underlings like trash.
• Rocket Knight Adventures:
  • In the original game, most of Emperor Devligus Devotindos' Pig Soldiers wear green armor and pilot green-colored vehicles.
• In the Streets of Rage series, Mr. X, the Tommy Gun wielding gangster in charge of the syndicate, sports a green business suit.
• Yo! Noid: Mr. Green, the Noid's Evil Twin, wears green.
• Mortal Kombat:
  • Shinnok often wears green robes. His servant Quan Chi occasionally wears a green jumpsuit and conjures green energy attacks.
  • Reptile is a reptile with green scales on his skin, although in early games, he wears green ninja wardrobe.
  • Onaga, the Big Bad of Mortal Kombat: Deception is a green-skinned Draconic Humanoid.
  • Cetrion is a villainous elder god in Mortal Kombat 11 and wears a dress made of teal crystal and green plant matter. Given that she is Shinnok's sister, one wonder if being evil and wearing green is a family thing.
• In Finding Bigfoot, Bigfoot is portrayed as a viscous man eating monster, and while he's not actually green himself, he has green blood and glowing green eyes.
• Several monsters from the Monster Hunter franchise are predominantly green and can put up one hell of a fight, but the most predominant example has got to be Deviljho. Its color scheme makes it resemble a walking pickle. A very angry walking pickle.
• Dragon Quest:
  • Dragon Quest: The Dragonlord's minion who keeps Princess Gwaelin imprisoned in the Swamp Cave is a green dragon (and probably the first dragon the Hero will meet).
  • Dragon Quest II: Malroth, the God of Destruction who will ruin the world if summoned, is green-scaled (albeit his hide is blue in some depictions).
  • Dragon Quest III:
    • The Archfiend Baramos wears green robes.
    • Orochi, the monster who is terrorizing Jipang by devoring its maidens, is a five-headed green-dragon.
  • Dragon Quest IV: After using the Secret of Evolution on himself, Psaro the Manslayer becomes a humongous double-headed green demon.
  • Dragon Quest V: King Korol, leader of the evil Order of Zugzwang who worship Nimzo is a green humanoid crocodile.
  • Dragon Quest VI: Murdaw, the primary antagonist who terrorizes the world and kills anybody who opposes to him, is some kind of reptilian, green demon.
  • Dragon Quest VII: Orgodemir's real form is a giant, greenish dragon-demon.
• Giana Sisters DS: The Final Boss is a big, chubby green dragon.
• The Crash Bandicoot series has the green-skinned aliens Nitros Oxide, Zam, Zem and Emperor Velo XXVII.
• In The Legend of Zelda series, one thing setting Ganondorf, the human form of the villainous Ganon, apart from the rest of the Gerudo race (aside from his surrogate mothers Koume and Kotake, who are also evil, aside from one appearance) is his green-tinted skin.
• Cthulhu Saves the World:
  • The green-skinned Cthulhu loses his eldritch powers in the intro and only goes on quest to earn the title of a hero just to regain them so he can resume the plan of driving the world insane.
  • The Ultharians are green-furred felinoid aliens who abduct cows to turn them into cyborg super soldiers to use in their goal of conquering the galaxy. Except for Paws, who joins Cthulhu's party to help put stop to his fellows' conquest.
• Minecraft features a few green-coloured mobs:
  • Zombies look like the green-skinned version of the standard player skin "Steve", and not only slouch towards players and even villagers to hunt them down but also seek out turtle eggs to stomp them just for kicks.
  • The iconic creepers are bright-green creatures that can easily blend into foliage to creep up on players and blow up on them.
• Bombastine from Warframe is one of the courtiers in Duviri who represents Dominus Thrax's envy. Whenever he takes dominion over the kingdom, the whole landscape looks like a wasteland clouded in green toxic fumes, and his Orowyrm form is green as well.

• Happy Tree Friends has the green-colored Lifty & Shifty, Flippy, and Mr. Pickels as recurring villains. Nutty can also be pretty selfish.
• Xionic Madness: Kary, the member of the team associated with green, turns out to be a traitor — and by the end of the series has graduated into a full-blown Omnicidal Maniac.

Webcomics

• Doc Scratch, Lord English and his Felt minions from Homestuck are all associated with the color green. Both Scratch and Lord English are antagonists, with Doc Scratch being an Arc Villain for Act 5, and Lord English being the Big Bad entirely.
• Played with in The Order of the Stick. The monster races orcs and goblins, which are Always Chaotic Evil in the source material, are depicted with green skin. The Always Chaotic Evil aspect is played with; the orcs are portrayed as mostly harmless Cloudcuckoolanders, while the half-orc characters are all somewhere on the antagonist spectrum. Goblins generally get the Anti-Villain treatment — they are led by Recloak, The Dragon of the story, himself a Well-Intentioned Extremist, and in general are victims of cosmic unfairness but nevertheless oppose the heroes and commit atrocities.
• The majority of Joe vs. Elan School is Deliberately Monochrome; however, Hate Sink character Christy, who is needlessly cruel and abusive to the title character, is given green eyes.

• Downplayed in Lightning Sentai Blitzenger, as the green-wearing Kimura is one of the heroic Blitzengers, and unlike the blue-wearing Momoko or the yellow-wearing Ashley, he manages to avoid being Brainwashed and Crazy. However, he is one of the more unpleasant members, with emphasis being added to his arrogance stemming from his intellect and laughing his head off over witnessing a disagreement between one of his teammates and their mentor, and is described by the narration as the most volatile of the team.

• Rancid Rabbit from CatDog is a sickly-green anthropomorphic rabbit who is also a massive Jerkass.
• Danger Mouse’s Nemesis, Baron Greenback, is the Big Bad of the series. He is also a green frog.
• Roger Klotz from Doug has green skin and is a bully.
• The Dover Boys: Dan Backslide, coward-bully-cad-and-thief, has green skin.
• Dudley Do-Right: Snidely Whiplash, archetypical villain and one of the trope namers for Dastardly Whiplash, has green skin.

• Subverted with Amity in The Owl House, who is initially presented as a green-haired Academic Alpha Bitch. However, as the first season goes on it becomes clear that both her hair color and her attitude are things that were forced on her by her parents and that her true self is actually a much sweeter brunette.
• The Powerpuff Girls:
  • The girls' Arch-Enemy, Mojo Jojo, has green skin. There's also the Gangreen Gang.
  • For the girls themselves, Buttercup wears green, and is generally the meanest of the three.
• Ed Bighead from Rocko's Modern Life is a green toad who serves as the Cranky Neighbor who despises Rocko. His wife Bev, however, is an aversion, though she does tend to get just as irritable at times.
• If not for their green skin, it'd be hard to tell that both the Creeper and Hyde from Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! are passing themselves off as villainous monsters, not just mean ugly men.
• The Angry Scientist from Sheep in the Big City has greenish skin and is often creating inventions that General Specific and Private Public can use to capture Sheep so they can use him to power their sheep-powered ray gun.
• Charles Montgomery Burns (or simply Mr. Burns) from The Simpsons is a Bad Boss who wears a green suit.
• Space Ghost's insectoid enemy, Zorak, is green.
• SpongeBob SquarePants: A good number of villains or even minor antagonists are green. These include Plankton, the Flying Dutchman, Bubble Bass, Kevin C. Cucumber and Flatts the flounder. In a Downplayed case, Squidward is more of an aquamarine color and more a Jerkass than a villain.
• Star Trek: Lower Decks: In "Temporal Edict", the green-skinned Gelrakians are the antagonists, but their conflict with the Cerritos crew is resolved by the end of the episode.
