Though he was also partially murdered by Commendatore Pazzi, the DirtyCop who had hired the pickpocket in the first place to get fingerprints, who intentionally lets him bleed to death so as not to blow his own cover.
** It's an InvokedTrope as Pazzi is relying on the fact that Lector will notice the thief and grab his arm, putting his fingerprints on the metal bracelet he's wearing.

It works, but Lecter doesn't just grab his arm but also stabs the pickpocket in the first place to get fingerprints, who intentionally groin with a knife, and Pazzi lets him bleed to death so as not to blow his own cover.
