''The closer a character is to something cute, the more likely CutenessOverload will happen. Get close enough and, if the character has any susceptibility to CutenessOverload at all, it is certain to happen.''

You have a character who's a normal, perfectly sensible, maybe even slightly uptight person. Then they are presented with a puppy/kitten/baby/whatever, and they suddenly turn into a tower of jelly, going "Whosa cutie? Whosa cutie? You are, you are, yes you are. Da cute [[BabyTalk widdle]] thing you are, you... (devolves into gibberish)".

Dignity goes flying out the window. Often strikes TheComicallySerious, helping to make them seem NotSoAboveItAll. Also a good way to show that a BadAss character is [[PetTheDog a big softie at heart]].

Sometimes, Cuteness Proximity leads to [[ImTakingHerHomeWithMe a desire to take the subject of cuteness home]] and call him "George"... Well, maybe not ''[[AndCallHimGeorge George...]]'' If someone tries to take advantage of this to get a date, the trope's called AnimalChickMagnet.

Definitely TruthInTelevision. See also CuteKitten and PreciousPuppy. When the animal is far more dangerous than cute, but get someone squeeing anyway, that person may be a FluffyTamer, when nobody squees then someone might end up saying "NiceKitty" instead. Compare DeliciousDistraction. See DistractedByTheSexy for the sexy, human variant.

* Several years back, there was an ad campaign for Beggin' Strips dog treats that had several people giving the treats to their pets. As their dogs cutely ate them, they basically dissolved into baby-talk and cute overload.
* A woman and man [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLRkijV72ys do this]] in a [=McCain=] commercial... to a bag of baby ''peas''. Cue raspberries and the inevitable cooing. Ick.

* ''Manga/{{Bleach}}''
** Occurs during the Bount arc in the anime version. When a decision needs to be made about which person each of the three mod souls would be paired with, Rukia (the possessor of a long standing rabbit obsession) positively melts over the plushie (a rabbit-like purse) inhabited by Kurodo.
** The scene where [[StoicSpectacles Ishida]] [[TheComicallySerious Uryuu]] is ''giggling'' over a butterfly that randomly flew by. Surprisingly [[GeniusDitz not as out of character as one might think.]] Granted, he's being held in a prison cell at the time, so it would have been nice to see something like a butterfly.
** Rukia shows her love of bunnies again in chapter 464, when she has to fight [[spoiler:Riruka]] in a place full of plushies. ''Several'' of these are bunny-shaped. [[http://www.mangapanda.com/bleach/464/15 This happens.]] And in a subversion... in 469 this proves to be a ''flaw''. [[spoiler:Rukia cannot really concentrate in her fight due to the adorableness of the plushies, which gives Riruka a chance to attack.]]
* ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist''
** Roy Mustang apparently had this [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4dMQ7m9oQ0 occur over dogs.]] Although, he states that he likes dogs because you can "Be a jerk to them and they won't complain and they never once beg for a paycheck!"
-->"Well, you're awfully manic today, sir"
** Also, Al's reaction to kittens, while in character, probably counts, especially as [[GentleGiant he looks scary]].
** When Scar (that's right, SCAR) first gets a look at [[PandaingToTheAudience Xiao May the panda]], he's so overcome with cute he wants to pet it! It was only shown once in an easy-to-miss scene in show, and once in a non-canon "4-Koma Theater" episode, but it's still freaking funny.
** Maes Hughes was regularly seen bragging about his cute daughter Elicia (After being exposed to her cuteness, Winry has similar symptoms)
-->"Yep, you're the same as ever, Major, nice and insane."
** And about his wife Gracia, too, although less frequently.
** Winry has exactly the same reactions at the sight of well-done automails and mechanical supplies. The start of episode 11 of ''Brotherhood'' shows this very well.
** A running gag in the omakes is Al storing cats in his armor, which often leads to this...on the parts of characters like ''the villains from Lab 5''. Noteworthy is a recreation of a fight scene between Al and Scar: When Scar disintegrates part of Al's armor, meowing cats burst out, prompting Scar to go starry-eyed and say, "Meow."
* ''Manga/{{Inubaka}}'': When Suguri started passing out fliers for Woofles, Noa helps out. She goes over to two tough looking guys, who ask Suguri menacingly if it's her dog. Suguri nervously replies it's the shop's...cue 'here boy's and 'aww, he's so cute's.
* ''LightNovel/OreTwintailNiNarimasu'' might as well be Cuteness Proximity: The Anime. Pretty much ''[[EvenTheGirlsWantHer every single person]]'' who sees Tail Red has this reaction, [[FoeYay even the villains]] - in their cases, it's both invoked and exploited in order to give Tail Red the edge on combat.
* ''Manga/DGrayMan'': Lenalee invokes this in [[ChivalrousPervert General Cross Marian]]. He hates The Dark Order-an organization for which he was once loyal. At the story's start, he'd been in hiding and avoiding contact for 4 years, which is a capitol punishment. Once he's back after a mission, he attempts to run off again, pushing Allen out of the way. However, what makes him stop is Lenalee. She hugs him around his waist, pleading for him not to leave. Cross seems to have an "Oh crap" expression on his face at first. He looks down at her, as she stares into his eyes-pleadingly. He then thinks to himself- "she's so cute, I can't refuse." Apparently, Lenalee can make him do things-which Allen theorizes is why Komui put her on Cross' team in the 1st place.
* ''Manga/InuYasha'': [[SiblingTeam Botan and Momiji]], the rookie {{miko}}s who appear in episodes 63 and 64 of the original anime. They're smitten with [[RidiculouslyCuteCritter Shippo and Kirara]] the minute they see them, and as soon as they're convinced the two aren't evil demons, they start fawning over them.
* ''[[Manga/CardCaptorSakura Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie]]'': Syaoran's four big sisters go ''crazy'' when in the presence of anything {{Moe}}.
* ''Manga/AzumangaDaioh''
** Sakaki, over pretty much anything. Unfortunately the animals involved [[AnimalsHateHim REALLY don't appreciate it]]. Also, she can be internally overwhelmed by all the cuteness, but all the other girls can see is a blushing HugeSchoolgirl.
** Then there's everybody's reaction to [[http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Chiyo_penguin.png Chiyo in a penguin costume]]. And we mean ''everyone''. Even the viewers.
* Shinra, dignified SugarAndIce mistress of ''VisualNovel/TheyAreMyNobleMasters'' melts into a {{Squee}}ing ditz at the mere ''sight'' of baby pandas.
* {{Badass}} Demon Butler Sebastian in ''Manga/BlackButler'' adores cats. It's partially because the only pets in the demon world are ''[[Franchise/{{Alien}} xenomorphs]]''.
* ''Manga/AxisPowersHetalia''
** Male {{Tsundere}} England is often the OnlySaneMan. But he's got the ability to see supernatural creatures, and when a sweet-tempered one approaches him, [[http://community.livejournal.com/hetalia/5087111.html his deredere side arises and he acts very gentle to them]]. And since he's the only one who can see them, his friends/rivals/enemies [[CassandraTruth think he has finally gone off the deep end.]] (Though [[http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v217/kawaiipinay/scans/fantasy.gif France's reaction]] when he ''does'' get to see them is ''priceless'') He also gets like this when around/thinking of baby America.
** He has company now. We have [[http://www.hetarchive.net/scanlations/xmas2011/husigina.jpg evidence]] [[TheStoic Norway]] [[SugarAndIcePersonality of all people]] is similarly afflicted.
** CrazyAwesome badass Prussia falls victim to this when he finds a baby chick on his head, commenting on how soft and fluffy it is. His little brother Germany, normally TheStoic, has a weak spot for dogs.
** While not really uptight, China is a reasonably composed guy who tries to act as a BigBrotherMentor to the other Asian nations and often plays OnlySaneMan to the other Allied Forces, but he has a definite weakness for cute things. HelloKitty plushies, pandas, baby!Japan or [[http://community.livejournal.com/hetalia/7435489.html anything else he thinks is cute]], can easily cause him to dissolve into bubbly giddiness.
* ''Manga/KenichiTheMightiestDisciple''
** Miu Fuurinji and Kisara Nanjo absolutely ''adore'' cats. Kisara especially to the extent that she adapts cat-based movements into her Tae Kwon Do fighting style, which another character promptly calls Nya Kwon Do.
** Kisara's Cuteness Proximity is deconstructed twice, albeit in two very different directions. First, when she is sheltering a cat from the rain, the Valkyri choose this moment to attack, knowing that she can't fight them all at once while protecting something. Later, after she has officially left Ragnarok, Nijima tries to blackmail her by threatening to release pictures of her being adorable with cats, ruining her tough girl image. Siegfried rejects this plan, coming up with an alternative.
-->'''Siegfried:''' In return for your friendship and loyalty, we offer...THIS ADORABLE KITTEN!
** [[LadyOfWar Shigure]] also had this reaction... to a tank.
** This is one of the things, along with sweets, that tends to break through Chikage Kushinada's CreepyChild persona and activate her 'Child Mode.'
* Oboro Kashiwagi in ''Manga/ZettaiKarenChildren'' really likes baby seals.
* Kaido Kaoru of ''Anime/ThePrinceOfTennis''. While he doesn't quite "disintegrate into a pile of gloop", the most antisocial member of the team attempting to play with a cat while still coming off as intense and a little scary was hilarious in its own right.
* ''Anime/RahXephon'''s Haruka Shitow takes all but two seconds to shift from, "One more step and I'll shoot!" to "Daaaaaw, it's so CUTE! can we keep it? Pwetty pwease?" upon encountering a stray cat in the third episode. [[spoiler:An especially good scene, because in those two seconds she mentally jumps 12 years back in time... and into a completely different dynamic. Ayato has NO idea what's going on.]]
* ''Anime/{{Pokemon}}''
** Misty slips into this when a stray Teddiursa wanders into their camp and looks her in the eyes. Of course, once they find out it's been scarfing down all their food behind their backs and making Ash's Totodile take the heat for it, the little thing seems much less cute. Even better: it ''continues to try to invoke this trope'' after it evolves into the much more feral-looking [[BearsAreBadNews Ursaring]].
** The other girls have their moments too -- May over a Skitty and Dawn for Pachirisu. Jessie was charmed by the cuteness of both as well, [[FailureIsTheOnlyOption though failed to get either PokÚmon]].
** Marilyn, a one-off character in the episode "Battling a Cute Drama", to a truly ridiculous extent. Brock is annoyed to no end by it.
*** This is actually an interesting case to study than it sounds. Brock was more annoyed by Marilyn for her ridiculously ''strict'' standards of Pokemon cuteness -- must not be too high, must not be evolved, etc. -- because it was a shallow perspective that put lesser value on other Pokemon. When she comes to understand, she admits that her favourite Pokemon, Shellder, led to her being put down by her peers and she adopted the viewpoint in order to fit in. When she comes to understand the deeper inherent qualities in a Pokemon and how they too can be admirable as well as cute, she... doesn't stop gushing over her favourite Pokemon, but realises that having a different perspective isn't bad and stops being ashamed of herself. Brock is, naturally, pleased to hear this.
** The first thing Ash ever said about Pikachu was "It's so cute!" (He was then promptly electrocuted.)
** ''VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite''
*** Iris has a Cuteness Proximity over Pikachu when they first met. She is so busy [[GenkiGirl genki-ing out]] over the thing that she doesn't notice [[AndCallHimGeorge she was holding him too hard]]. That is, until he got his point across in his own [[HarmlessElectrocution inimitable fashion]].
*** She didn't have much luck with cute mons besides her partner... until Lenora's Lillipup showed up, all too happy to be played with before battle. Even Ash fell victim to the little puppy!
*** [[DumbBlonde Bianca]] has her moments as well.
* ''Anime/HanaukyoMaidTai'': Konoe Tsurugi, normally a stoic {{Badass}} that speaks in a deep and quiet scary tone, starts gushing whenever she sees a puppy. [[spoiler: She eventually gets her own]].
* ''Anime/LuckyStar''
** Kagami admits that she gets this way around goldfish. Konata immediately mocks her for it.
** Also, Konata and virtual pets.
** Also, Yutaka and Minami's dog, Cherry... know what? A LOT of examples are found in this show.
* ''Manga/OnePiece''
** The Kyuun Spark in the Chopperman specials.
** Zoro in general appears to have soft spot for cute things, especially Chopper.
** Nami has always been fond of cute animals, but in the recent times, this has also extended to children - to a surprisingly great degree. When some crying children asks her to save them, she cannot bring herself to abandon them (despite that she usually follows her captain's [[AlwaysSaveTheGirl principle of not caring much about random bystanders, only helping people who are personal friends of her or her crew]]), and she spends the rest of the arc worrying about them. The most extreme example is with Momonosuke: She doesn't seem to realize at all that he is a DirtyKid who only jumps into her comforting arms in order to feel her boobs - she sees him as another cute, innocent kid who she hugs, lets sit on her lap and shares a bed with. Noteworthy since she is often a good judge of character.
** The Rumbar Pirates all look at baby Laboon: at first they seem confused but then they tilt thier heads and say "cute~".
* The Puchuus in ''Anime/ExcelSaga'' are an alien race that are able to conquer planets because no one can resist their cuteness. Oddly, it seems only men are affected, though the only women we ever see them encounter are a really crazy girl and the only serious person in the whole show.
* Yuno of ''Manga/HidamariSketch'' stops in the scavenger hunt to pet the dog, and even petted ''drawing brushes'' when she thought of the animals the bristles came from.
* Given that ''Anime/PrincessTutu'''s Fakir is [[PetTheDog far nicer and affectionate to]] [[RidiculouslyCuteCritter small, fuzzy animals]] [[TallDarkAndSnarky than he is]] [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold to any]] [[KnightInSourArmor human being]] (including the very same small, fuzzy animal in [[{{Animorphism}} human form]]), we can probably say he's afflicted with some level of Cuteness Proximity
* Examined in ''Super Cruel and Terrible Tales of Mangaka''. A young mangaka is very passionate about gory, gruesome manga, and is very, very happy in terms of success. However, when his wife gives birth to a daughter, this trope settles in, and the quality of his manga fades and eventually gets canceled. ("I don't need status or glory, or money or life, as long as I have Nunuko!")
* ''Manga/AngelBeats'' has Shiina, who is usually an [[TheStoic utterly stoic]] DeadpanSnarker...right up until she sees a toy puppy. The first time this happens [[spoiler: the toy is part of the Guild's security system, she ends up getting swept over a waterfall and gravely injured]], and it ''still'' manages to be a CrowningMomentOfFunny.
* While not one to just out and scream "KITTY!", the [[SugarAndIcePersonality normally serious and stoic]] Ai Haibara from ''Manga/DetectiveConan'' is vulnerable to this around animals, her partner and snark-buddy Conan wastes no time [[http://www.citymanga.com/detective_conan/chapter-292/18/ cracking a joke]] at how she looked 100% like a little girl.
* Amusingly, Minatsuki of ''Manga/DeadmanWonderland'' has a moment of this towards an armadillo. [[http://z.mfcdn.net/store/manga/1328/06-024.0/compressed/q09.jpg She looks like she's actively trying to fight it.]]
* Ando, from ''Manga/ChocoMimi'' may look tough, but he has a soft spot for cute animals, especially Picho, his pet bird. Worth noting is that he once randomly hugged Jin simply because Jin was wearing a raincoat that made him resemble Picho.
* Yuiko from the manga ''Manga/BeastMaster'' takes this UpToEleven whenever she sees a cute animal, such as a dog or a cat, and even birds.
* ''LightNovel/ACertainMagicalIndex'':
** Misaka 10032, though it's slightly more subtle due to her [[SugarAndIcePersonality normal]] [[EmotionlessGirl inexpressive personality]]. The clearest example, though, can be seen when she is helping take some cans back to Touma's apartment and runs into Himegami and Index taking care of Sphinx, and the entire time her eyes are twitching back and forth, following the cat's tail. She even has little {{blush sticker}}s on her face.
** Mikoto also counts, with her reaction to anything involving Gekota (a frog mascot marketed at ''pre-schoolers'').
** Uiharu has this reaction to Kongou's pet ''boa constrictor''.
--->'''Everyone Else:''' ''IT'S A SNAKE!''\\
'''Uiharu:''' Ooh, what's her name?
* ''Anime/HeartcatchPrettyCure'' has [[StudentCouncilPresident Myoudoin]] [[{{Bokukko}} Itsuki]], whose mature and reserved facade instantly crumbles at the sight of cute dolls or frilly clothing. She initially tries to hide this habit, out of concern for [[HeirToTheDojo her]] [[{{Bifauxnen}} image]], but she's slowly getting better.
* At one point during ''Anime/DigimonTamers'', Tally and Riley pick up a strong Digimon signal... only to look down and see that Calumon's wandering around the control room. Riley basically ignores him, but Tally immediately notes how cute he is. Many viewers agreed with her.
-->'''Calumon:''' Calumon, zoom zoom, here a zoom, there a zoom! Calumon, zoom zoom, NO UNDERWEAR, ZOOM!
* In one episode of ''Manga/ChisSweetHome'', Chi sneaks into Dad's bag when he goes to meet his bosses at work, and she comes out when he's presented with sample food (he's a designer). Instantly, TheComicallySerious starts petting and speaking BabyTalk to Chi.
** The real example is the pet store worker who constantly obsesses over Chi and wants to take her home. She even visits Chi at the Yamadas' house (whom she barely knows) when she finds out she already has a family.
* Takanashi of ''Manga/{{Working}}'' takes this to DistractedByTheShiny levels, even being distracted from his ''date'' because a couple of puppies are walking by.
* When Mizuno is introduced in ''Anime/StarDriver'', she follows the drama club's fox kit mascot Vice to the clubroom, entranced by his cuteness.
* Ryuugu Rena from ''VisualNovel/HigurashiNoNakuKoroNi''. She's known to go "[[ImTakingHerHomeWithMe Hauuuuuu~ omochikaerii!!]]" on anything.
* An early episode of ''Anime/SailorMoon'' featured a plot to drain people through adorable little pets. When close enough to them, their pheromones trigger this result in anyone. Luna realizes the whole thing is off when Usagi and Shingo are so enamored with the creatures that they actually yell and kick at her if she tries to come close to them.
* All the girls from ''Manga/HayateTheCombatButler'' fall into this for Shiranui, who then uses it to play CatsAreMean to the hilt and pass the blame. Even Hinagiku falls into this, though it's more blatant in [[AllThereInTheManual extra material]].
* Syaoran's older sisters who appear in the 1st ''Manga/CardcaptorSakura'' movie. They gush over Sakura and Tomoyo... until Touya and Yukito arrive, at which point they switch to gushing over the guys. (Syaoran is exasperated by this.)
* Ilyasviel von Einzbern from ''Manga/FateKaleidLinerPrismaIllya'' has this to {{m|eido}}aids of all things! Or rather, anything that resembles a maid...
* ''LightNovel/AsobiNiIkuYo'' has a NinjaMaid named Sarah who reportedly made it into the SAS but washed out soon after due to her love of small, cute things. Her current employer is a girl who runs a cult dedicated to worshiping cat-people.
* JunjiIto puts his [[http://www.mangareader.net/ito-junjis-cat-diary/1/16 own distinctive spin]] on the idea in in ''Manga/ItoJunjiNoNekoNikki''.
* This is largely driving the plot in ''Anime/MaoChan'', with 8-year-old Mao-chan and her friends the only ones not affected by the super-cute aliens trying to destroy the Earth.
* In one episode of ''LightNovel/KokoroConnect'', Iori and Yui completely lose it [[spoiler:when [[SugarAndIcePersonality Inaba]] is [[FountainOfYouth physically and mentally reverted to about four years old.]]]] Taichi is just barely able to avoid joining in.
* In ''Manga/PopcornAvatar'', Lisa finds Mafuyu adorable. Since Mafuyu is Kurando's twin, one wonders if she feels the same for the latter.
* Taki from ''Manga/NatsumesBookOfFriends'' finds Nyanko-sensei to be so adorable she can't help {{glomp}}ing him. Given that everyone else considers Nyanko-sensei to be "Natsume's [[{{Gonk}} ugly]] cat", her taste in cuteness is questionable.
* In the second anime episode of ''Manga/TheSeveringCrimeEdge'', Iwai triggers this response in just about every girl in Kiri's class.
* Rin tends to cause this reaction to people in ''BunnyDrop''. Amusingly, younger children than her cause the reaction in ''Rin''.
* Gwendal von Voltaire in ''LightNovel/KyoKaraMaoh''. Since he's a rule-and-duty-bound [[TheStoic Stoic]] in just about every other circumstance it is inevitably amusing to watch him blush and try to pretend he's not interested in just about anything cute. Or to hear him talk about 'bunnies and little kitty cats' without ever losing the lineface.
** The main character's older brother Shouri doesn't have it as bad as Gwendal, but he definitely gets his moments when faced with El, the baby son of a pair of recurring side characters who Shouri winds up babysitting while his parents finally get married.
* In ''Manga/KaitouSaintTail'' Rosemary gets this reaction from Meimi and Asuka jr., with her adopted daughter Maju saying she does it all the time. What makes this special is that Rosemary is the closest thing to a ''BigBad'' this series has to offer.
* In ''LightNovel/LogHorizon'', [[LittleMissBadass Akatsuki]] invokes this in Henrietta, the accountant and 2nd in command of the Crescent Moon Alliance guild. Henrietta joined a diplomatic party specifically so she could dress up Akatsuki in various dresses.
* [[TheStoic Ryu]] from ''Manga/KimiNiTodoke'' really, ''really'' loves puppies.
* In ''Manga/{{Gintama}}'', Katsura gets a case of this when he runs into a lone Sadaharu, and proceeds to pet and cuddle him excessively. Unbeknownst to him, it was actually [[FreakyFridayFlip Gintoki in Sadaharu's body]] at the time, who naturally didn't approve of the treatment.
--> '''Gintoki:''' I think I've been violated...
* ''Manga/GochuumonWaUsagiDesuKa'':
** Cocoa when she first sees Tippy. And especially when holding him. Several other characters are similarly drawn to him, such as a bunch of random girls at the pool in episode 8 after Chino leaves him alone in a small washtub.
** Thanks to Cocoa's influence, Chino gets afflicted by this in episode 10, when she notices some rabbits while she's headed towards the bathhouse with Rize, Megu, and Maya.
** Sharo's brain breaks just a bit when she sees Rize wearing Chino's junior high uniform in episode 3. For the time it takes Cocoa and Chino to take their bath, Sharo does nothing but sit, stare at Rize and squeal.
* ''LightNovel/DateALive'': Ai, Mai, and Mii do this when they run into Yoshino.
* A frequent form of interaction between Fu and Hana in ''Manga/HanaTheFoxGirl''. Fu gushes over Hana whenever she's being especially cute or Fu can dress her up in her old childhood clothes. The second chapter equates this to maternal instinct.
* Episode 8 of the ''Anime/KantaiCollection'' anime has [[TheStoic Nagato]] taking a dip in the hot springs repair dock when a squirrel scampers down to the edge of the water and looks at her. After looking around furtively to make sure nobody can see, [[NotSoStoic she scoops up the squirrel and rubs it against her cheek while cooing that it's]] "[[BabyTalk so adowable]]", all with a CatSmile on her face. Then her sister Mutsu enters, and Nagato quickly asks "[[YouDidntSeeThat You didn't hear that, did you?]]"
* In the ''Manga/SandsOfDestruction'' manga, Kyrie {{squee}}s when seeing Taupy for the first time, comparing him to a stuffed bear. In [[Anime/SandsOfDestruction the anime]], though, Kyrie finds the incongruity between Taupy's appearance and abilities a little unsettling.
* Ero-Neko exploits this in ''Manga/ReKan''. He sits on top of a window by the girl's locker room, and they think he's cute. However, Hibiki SpeaksFluentAnimal, and hears him talking about watching them as they change their clothes. She promptly shuts the window to stop him.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Comic Books]]
* In an issue of ''Comicbook/SheHulk'', the title character visits a prison where supervillains are shrunk down before they are incarcerated. She starts cooing when she sees the tiny Wrecking Crew.
-->'''She-Hulk:''' Who's the cutest little Wrecking Crew? You are! Yes you are!
* In ''Comicbook/GoldDigger,'' the [[TimeAbyss ancient]] civilization of [[OurDragonsAreDifferent dragons]] tend to be sharply divided on their opinion of humans. Some find the idea of a civilization of little, vermin-sized mammals disgusting; but at least as many dragons, if not more, find us ''adorable,'' seeing us sentient mammals essentially as a race of little bunny people. This is why so many of them choose to shape-shift into human form; so they can secretly have fun hanging out with us in our cute little bunny village "cities."
* Lockjaw of Comicbook/{{the Inhumans}} basically looks like a monstrous pug. When he shows up in New Jersey, most everyone freaks and runs away... apart from [[Comicbook/MsMarvel2014 Kamala Khan]], who thinks he looks [[FreakyIsCool absolutely adorable]], and coos over him like most people would with a normal puppy.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Comic Strips]]
* ''ComicStrip/BabyBlues''
** In one of the early Sunday strips, Daryl and Zoe are passing by a fat construction worker, who's yelling over the noise of a jackhammer and swearing like a sailor... Until he spots Zoe in her little stroller, undergoes a complete personality shift, and coos to her like a mother. In Daryl's words to her, "How do you ''do'' that??"
** An early story arc revolves around Daryl suddenly finding himself unable to ''stop'' using baby talk. Wanda digs up a baby book which explains that this condition is commonly brought on by babies' cuteness and recommends "exposure to the baby during peak non-cute periods" as the cure.
-->'''Daryl:''' Wot's dat 'posed to mean?\\
'''Wanda:''' It means you get the night shift, Tweety Bird.
* An entire ''ComicStrip/BloomCounty'' story arc consisted of Oliver making contact with a race of aliens planning to enslave much of Earth's human populace. Now they may have had flying saucers with lasers and the like on them, but their biggest advantage by far over the humans was that all of them took on the shape of puppies with big innocent eyes. Said arc was [[ItMakesSenseInContext making a serious political statement]] about how Oliver North was handled with kid gloves at a Congressional hearing.
* Bo from ''[=BoNanas=]'' once asked his roommate to put him on a leash as they went outside, trying to make a message on how wrong it was for him to be constrained as a mere "cute" animal. Naturally, once they begin their stroll, every stranger they encounter can't help but gush and babytalk him. "... Well, you ''are'' cute." "It's my curse."
* Of all the characters in ''ComicStrip/{{Retail}}'', Stuart was this when Marla visited the mall with her new baby.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Fan Works]]
* In ''FanFic/LongRoadToFriendship'', Sunset Shimmer has to be the animal equivalent of a DrillSergeantNasty during her second visit at the animal shelter in order to get the animals to listen to her, except for one cute little puppy that listens to her from the beginning. Sunset immediately takes a liking to the puppy, even devolving into petting and baby talk with him... until she's noticed by Fluttershy. Then, Sunset denies everything.
* ''WebVideo/YuGiOhTheAbridgedSeries''
** Marik, as shown in Episode 31:
-->'''Marik:''' I shall defeat you and then conquer the world! Ahahahaha, Ahaha! Oh, hey, look, a bird! Isn't it just the cutest little guy? I mean, No! I-In my new world, all birds shall be enslaved! Especially this one, and he shall be named, Mr. Tweetums! For it is very evil! Ahahahahaha! Now be gone, Mr. Tweetums! I am trying to stalk my nemesis!
** And later in Episode 43 even his evil alter ego, Melvin, is shown to have a soft spot for the bird.
-->'''Melvin:''' I hate to burst your bubble but there's no-one in my head worth remembering... NO! Mr. Tweetums! I can't forget about him!
* When Kyon sees Hanyuu in ''FanFic/KyonBigDamnHero'', he has to resist commenting on how cute she looks.
* ''WebAnimation/TurnaboutStorm'':
** [[PlayingWithATrope Played with]] when [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Fluttershy]] warms up to [[Franchise/AceAttorney Phoenix]] after hearing his first name and assuming [[ADogNamedDog he's some sort of actual phoenix]]. Before knowing this she was quite intimidated by him.
** Played straight with Apple Bloom and the Judge. The Judge thinks she's the cutest thing he's ever seen, and he becomes very protective of her while she's on the witness stand, causing a few problems for Phoenix.
* In the ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7471458/1/The_First_Guardian The First Guardian]]'', [[Manga/{{Bleach}} Ichigo's]] (and later Rukia's) reaction to Ururu.
-->"How do I resist hugging her to death?"
* ''FanFic/ImAMarvelAndImADC'': Occurs every single time Random Cat shows up on [=BlogTV=].
* ''FanFic/TheTaintedGrimoire'': Kanin and Maria when they see Auggie's pet Dreamhare.
* In ''[[Fanfic/MyLittlePonyVs My Little Pony Vs...]]'', [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Rainbow Dash]] has this reaction to a Franchise/{{P|okemon}}ikachu, up until she starts sensing static electricity nearby...
* ''FanFic/ResonanceDays'' has Arzt and Nie, who have this reaction to Ticky Nikki. Given that the latter is a PsychoForHire, she doesn't much appreciate it. They're also often reduced to fawning over open acts of affection, given their highly romantic view of their world and situation.
* In ''FanFic/MegaManDefenderOfTheHumanRace'', everyone, from the readers to the characters, squeals over the cuteness of Peekaboo the Met.
* [[BrokenBird Shepard]] from ''FanFic/AvatarOfVictory'' tries very hard to keep her professionalism whenever she's around an [[GentleGiant Elcor]]. She even had a plushie Elcor when she was a kid.
* ''Fanfic/HermionesTalent'' has DracoInLeatherPants [[ReplacementGoldfish replacing]] the [[DroppedABridgeOnHim inexplicably deceased]] Crookshanks with a kitten named Merlin, who only appears in one scene. Hermione's reaction is the above ''Webcomic/{{xkcd}}'' strip to a T.

* This was Dory in ''WesternAnimation/FindingNemo'' when she came in contact with a small jelly fish, which she promptly named "Squishy."
* In ''WesternAnimation/{{Shrek}}'', the GenreSavvy Puss in Boots is [[InvokedTrope fully aware of this trope]] and is [[DeliberatelyCuteChild quick to use it to his advantage]]. See [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LbumSMoQK8&feature=related Shrek's reaction to Puss in Boots]] in ''Shrek 2''. Keep in mind this is the guy who has admitted that the eye jelly is quite good on toast. Yeah. Puss is that good.
-->'''Shrek:''' ... I mean how many cats can wear boots? Honestly?
** This backfires when he tries to use it [[spoiler:when he and Donkey [[FreakyFridayFlip have their bodies exchanged]] in ''Shrek the Third'']].

* In ''Literature/TheDresdenFiles'', the current Archive is a human girl (Nicknamed Ivy by Harry.) with magical access to everything ever recorded by humanity, as well as the combined memories of all previous Archives. She is articulate, mature and scarily powerful, and when she states that if Dresden backs out of his duel she'll take it personally and kill him, Dresden realizes she ''is'' fully capable of doing so without breaking a sweat. But when Dresden's cat Mister suddenly appears, she shouts "KITTY!" and starts playing with him, making you realize she's still a 7-year-old girl. Her bodyguard (a HalfHumanHybrid SociopathicHero CombatPragmatist with a thing for explosions)'s reaction to this: "Now ''that'' is scary." Mister is [[MegaNeko the size of a small tiger]] and isn't above pushing Harry around, but he seems to quite like Ivy. Maybe a little of this goes both ways.
** The next time we see her, Dresden immediately knows where she's going to be at the meeting place (an Aquarium); the otter pens.
* ''Literature/{{Discworld}}''
** Lord Vetinari's usually very reserved aunt Lady Roberta Meserole does this whenever her lapcat is around -- as does Vetinari with his own dog to a lesser extent. When we see teenage Vetinari (i.e., before he gets the dog), he finds his aunt's devotion to her cat extremely irritating. He also thinks that if she's ''going'' to have a pet, it should be a [[RightHandCat long-haired white cat which she could stroke in a sinister way]].
** Nanny Ogg as well. She does this with babies (many of which, in Lancre at least, are her descendants) and with her evil one-eyed demon cat Greebo.
** Due to male and female dwarfs looking alike, Sam Vimes is still not sure how many of each he employs. Until his infant son is brought to the Watch House, and half of them can't help but fawn over him.
** Even Granny Weatherwax's hard outer shell softens around the kitten she named You. She places [[HeadPet her on her head]], under her hat; she claims it's to keep her head warm, but really, is anyone buying that? %% Rhetorical question, do not answer. %%
* In the short story "Hell in a Handbasket", any demon who comes across the baby in the story is ''forced'' to do this, whether it being intentional (Vassago), to being physically unable to harm the child and forced to talk in baby talk (Harpy).
* An entry in ''Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul'' features the author (a new cat owner) fearing she's become "one of ''those people''" who use baby talk on their pets. Naturally she succumbs to it in the end.
* French writer and journalist [[http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Beauvais Robert Beauvais]] provided a humorous study of the language used by dog-owners, which he dubbed "''le kiskose chien-chien''" ("the doggy-doggy whatchaspeak"), in ''Le Franšais kiskose'' (1975).
* When Tash and Zak find a baby in ''Literature/GalaxyOfFear'', they don't dissolve ''too'' far into babytalk, but they do say sillier things than usual.
* At the end of the ''Literature/WarriorCats'' novel ''Crookedstar's Promise'', the {{jerkass}} [[SmallNameBigEgo egomaniac]] Beetlenose comes flying out of the Nursery, squeeing about how cute Crookedstar's daughter Silverkit is. Keep in mind that he's a very nasty cat, and even he found her cute.
* ''Literature/HarryPotter'': Parvati Patil and Lavender Brown have this reaction to both the Hippogriffs in ''Literature/HarryPotterAndThePrisonerOfAzkaban'' and the {{Unicorn}} foals in ''Literature/HarryPotterAndTheGobletOfFire''. AlphaBitch Pansy Parkinson also has to try [[NotSoAboveItAll really hard to conceal how much she likes them]]. Ginny and a gaggle of female customers in ''Literature/HarryPotterAndTheHalfBloodPrince'' also swoon over the Pygmy Puffs in Fred and George's joke shop.
* Played for NightmareFuel in ''TheWarAgainstTheChtorr'' (written by David Gerrold, creator of the tribbles). A scientist points out a form of Chtorran life called the meep, which when placed with a mother rabbit will induce her to abandon her young and allow the meeps to nurse her to death. At the time the protagonist is studying another form of Chtorran life; endearing floppy-earred creatures called bunnydogs. Noting the cuteness response most people have towards them, he suggests that the bunnydogs are meant to be the human-equivilent for meeps.
* ''ASongOfIceAndFire''. Prince Oberyn lampshades this trope when telling Tyrion Lannister of how his sister Elia responded to [[UglyCute seeing him as a baby]], in deliberate contrast to how Tyrion's own sister Cersei reacted, twisting Tyrion's penis and accusing him of [[DeathByChildbirth killing their mother]].
* In the ''Literature/RainbowMagic'', Kirsty squees upon seeing a baby penguin hatch and says it's the most adorable thing she's ever seen.

** In the episode ''Colossus Against the Headhunters'', this is the reason for Nummy Muffin [=CoocolButter=]'s existence. Dr. F's idea is that everyone who comes in contact with Nummy will be so overcome by his cuteness that Dr. F will be able to take over the world. This works on Mike, although the 'bots are only annoyed by Nummy and his constant shedding. But when Mike notices that Frank and Nummy miss each other, he sends Nummy back to Deep 13, and Dr. F [[HoistByHisOwnPetard falls into his own trap]].
** A minor RunningGag has the guys react to any dog or cat appearing in the movie they're watching by cooing "Puppy!" or "Kitty!" and trying to get its attention. Even if it's supposed to be the monster of the film.
* Arrogant, Narcissistic painter Olivier in ''SixFeetUnder'' turns to pudding when he meet Brenda's baby.
* ''Series/{{Scrubs}}''
** Kelso laughs at Elliot's attempts to be unfeminine by saying that as soon as the "stork comes calling" she'll be gushing "look at the baby!" like all of the other female doctors in OB/GYN and Pediatrics. She denies it, but when she actually sees the baby...
** The same thing happens in a later episode when she and her friend Melody are shrieking with joy (to such a degree that in J.D.'s fantasy they are actually blowing people away). Showing them a picture of Turk's daughter Izzy immediately turns their screams into "Aww"s.
* ''Series/TheColbertReport'': Creator/StephenColbert normally [[AnimalNemesis hates and fears]] [[strike:bears]] [[BearsAreBadNews The Godless Killing Machines]], but pictures of cute little bear cubs invariably [[http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/84023/march-20-2007/threatdown---polar-bear-cub?videoId=84023 send him]] into hopeless BabyTalk. * ''{{Soap}}''
** It's not exactly sure how to spell the string of gibberish that Burt Campbell spouted off whenever he was faced with his granddaughter Wendy. The letter "L" would definitely be used heavily, though.
** Burt's son [=Chuck&Bob=] (Chuck was a [[{{Ventriloquism}} ventriloquist]]), who was Wendy's step-uncle, would stick Bob's head up close to hers and go "'''Weny'''[=WenyWenyWenyWeny!=] '''Weny'''[=WenyWenyWenyWeny!"=] while shaking his head back and forth. Chuck is usually slightly embarrassed by Bob's behavior.
* The straight-laced businessmen on ''TheFastShow'', who get soppy over calenders with cute puppies on them and excited when they're allowed into the cockpit of a plane.
* ''Franchise/StarTrek''
** Spock is [[SarcasmMode totally unaffected]] by Tribbles. [[PetTheDog He is only petting it]] [[BlatantLies because it is logical]]... What's everybody looking at?
** And cats. [[SuspiciouslySpecificDenial He has no particular fondness for the creatures.]]
** Also, [=McCoy=] and babies... [[BabyTalk Oochie woochie coochie coo!]]
* ''Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration''
** Speaking of cats, Data adores his pet cat Spot, despite being an "[[TinMan emotionless]]" android. Even he is [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auHXg1H0bAQ&feature=related reduced to inane speech in the presence of his cat]].
-->'''Data:''' He will need to be fed once a day. He prefers feline supplement number 25.\\
'''Worf:''' I understand.\\
'''Data:''' And he will require water, and you must provide him with a sandbox, and you must talk to him. Tell him he is a pretty cat, and a good cat.\\
'''Worf:''' I will ''feed'' it.
** It seems to be sort of an unspoken rule in ''Star Trek''... If you're supposedly emotionless, you have to love small furry creatures, especially if they're cats.
* ''Series/StarTrekDeepSpaceNine'': In one episode, O'Brien is bringing his baby son to work because if he sets the child down, he'll start wailing. At the end the baby grows out of this, falling asleep in his carrier. Sisko tells O'Brien to take a few days off, then reminds every female officer in Ops (including Dax and Kira) that they have jobs to do.
* ''Series/StarTrekVoyager''. Q tries to seduce Captain Janeway by materializing a cute puppy in her quarters (she left a dog back on Earth). Janeway gives it her [[FanNickname Gooey Look]], but quickly snaps out of it.
-->'''Janeway:''' It's not going to work, Q.
-->'''Q:''' ''(materializing beside her)'' How can you resist that face? ''(gives his best PuppyDogEyes)''
** Female Q's, however, are not impressed with this trope.
-->'''Ms Q:''' What are you doing with that dog? ''(Q and Janeway look at the puppy)'' I'm ''not'' talking about the puppy!
* Leo distracts Margaret with this in ''Series/TheWestWing''.
-->'''Margaret:''' Did you tell the Counsel's office that they would be in on the 10 o'clock?\\
'''Leo:''' I may have.\\
'''Margaret:''' ''(miffed)'' That's really something that you want to tell me.\\
'''Leo:''' ''(showing photograph)'' Here, it's a baby and a new mother. Look at that for a minute.\\
'''Margaret:''' ''(reacts in traditional manner)''
* Lampshaded quite neatly on ''Series/{{Friends}}'' when Joey gets a dog. When Rachel sees the dog, she dissolves into BabyTalk, par for the course as far as this trope goes. She then realizes it, and says to the dog, still in BabyTalk mode, "I really have to stop talking like this before my board meeting, yes I do! Yes I do!"
* Daisy does this a lot with her dog Colin in ''Series/{{Spaced}}''. Downstairs neighbour Brian attempts to talk to the dog in a normal and reasonable tone (after inadvertently sitting on him) but this proves unsatisfying to Daisy, who forces him to adopt a cutesy and high-pitched voice when talking to the dog for no readily explainable reason.
** Both Brian and Marsha initially appear to have a more mature and responsible attitude toward the dog, but they pretty quickly break down into dressing him in an Edwardian ruff and making him dance. Also, Colin's Cuteness Proximity actually becomes a plot point, when it becomes an issue of conflict between Daisy ('How can you not like him? He's ''so cute''.') and Tim ('That's how it starts, with 'oohs' and 'awwws', but soon there'll be barking and... biting...'). Due to Tim's childhood caniphobia (which is not the fear of bamboo) he is immune to Colin's head-cocking adorableness... until he bonds with the dog rescuing him from freelance animal vivisectionists and is nobbled by the dog as much as anyone else.
* Subverted and LampShaded by Roz in ''Series/{{Frasier}}'' when Frasier attempts to get her to adopt a puppy.
-->'''Roz:''' ''(cooing)'' Oh, he's adorable! Oh, come here, little fella! Oh. Aren't you the cutest little thing? Oh, yeah. Give me a kiss. Give me a kiss. Oh! I love you too. ''(shoves the puppy back to Frasier, harshly)'' There. Happy now?\\
'''Frasier:''' ''(aghast)'' Roz, how can you just toss him aside after such a tender display of affection?\\
'''Roz:''' I do it with men, too.
* ''Series/{{MASH}}'': Charles Winchester reacts this way to the half-Korean, half-American DoorstopBaby that gets temporarily taken into the camp while they searched for a proper home for her. And this was ''Charles''. To be fair, the rest of the camp did too.
* Dr. Talbot on ''Series/{{Mercy}}'' reacts this way to a kitten she finds under a car. Her [[BritishAccents accent]] makes it all the more hilarious.
-->'''Gillian:''' Ooooh look, it's a poor little stray urchin!
* ''Series/DoctorWho''
** The Doctor does this sometimes with K-9.
** And on at least one occasion, with kittens.[[note]]Funnily enough, true behind the scenes as well; that episode's companion episode of ''Series/DoctorWhoConfidential'' features David Tennant saying, "I'm not big on cats, traditionally," over footage of David cuddling a kitten and refusing to put it down.[[/note]]
** And [[spoiler:Ace's mum when she was still]] a baby.
** And at least once, [[TimeyWimeyball himself]].
** And flying alien fish, to the point of talking BabyTalk to them.
** The Doctor also [[ExploitedTrope exploits]] this trope. In "Closing Time", he gets Craig to bring his baby son with them when they investigate the alien-menace-of-the-week. His reasoning is that people are friendlier to someone with a baby, which is the same reason he travels with non-Time Lords.
-->"So I'm your baby?"\\
"You're my baby!"
** It happens to the Doctor again in "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship"... with a ''triceratops''.
* In ''Series/MontyPythonsFlyingCircus'', a woman affected by this trope, and babbling appropriately, makes the mistake of removing the baby's pacifier. Everyone in the room is sucked into the vortex.
* ''Series/HowIMetYourMother''
** One episode had Marshall, Lily, and (eventually) Robin, and Barney gushing over a baby's sock.
** Worse yet, the '''tea cup pig wrapped in a blanket'''. [[http://tv.gawker.com/5483702/how-i-met-your-mother-delights-all-by-incorporating-teacup-pigs Just watch]] Great music at the end there.
* On ''Series/{{Bones}}'', Dr Temperance Brennan suffers from a modified version of this. Although initially a bit uncomfortable interacting with an abandoned baby she and Booth found during a case, she is soon cooing and playing with it -- in a very Bones fashion. In one memorable bit that she repeats in later interactions with babies in the series, she wiggles her fingers in the baby's face (to its delight) while chanting [[SesquipedalianLoquaciousness "Dancing phalanges! Dancing phalanges!"]]
* [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xig_x0vaIIE Russel Howards' opinion on the subject.]]
* In the Season Six HalloweenEpisode of ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer'', Willow's rant about witch stereotypes is cut short when she notices the utterly adorable four-year-old in a witch costume. She pretty much melts.
* Conan O'Brien had a wildlife expert on as a guest, and completely lost it when he brought out the coyote puppy. As the animal guy was trying to explain they're "less friendly than dogs and wolves" Conan was rubbing his cheek on it. Then it licked him. ''Then he licked it back.'' The bear cub did not quite elicit the same reaction, as it was trying to claw him to death...
* On ''Series/ParksAndRecreation'' everyone in Pawnee, including (make that especially) the ultra-manly Ron Swanson, is enamoured of Lil Sebastian, a miniature horse considered a local celebrity. The only one in the cast who isn't is Ben, who just sees a small horse who doesn't do anything (To be fair, he is from out of town). When Sebastian dies, his funeral becomes a major event, and even Ron is moved to tears for, he claims, only the second time in his entire life.
* On the ''Series/AnimalPlanetHeroes'' programs, the officers rescuing animals will often baby talk them.
* Even characters on ''Series/VeronicaMars'' periodically [[CutenessOverload degenerate into a mushpile]] after they get to know the "ferocious pitbull" called Backup.
* The gruff and withdrawn Nathan Wuornos from ''Series/{{Haven}}'' pretty much turns into another person around babies.
* ''Series/{{Supernatural}}'': Dean's theory why his brother is so much better in convincing people of the crazy, spooky ghost hunting stuff is based on comparison of Sam to [[PuppyDogEyes a big puppy]]. (well, at least in the first few seasons.) Thus reducing the [[{{Muggles}} unwitting civilians]] not necessarily to a melting mass of BabyTalk but getting them to listen to them. Which is definitely more helpful.
* When Music/AvrilLavigne appeared on Australian talk show ''Rove Live'' to promote her then-new album ''Let Go'', she was quite subdued for most of the interview... [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkGfBoMsYbU&t=5m15s until Rove brought out a koala.]]
* The performers on ''Series/WhoseLineIsItAnyway'' may kid around a lot, but they are, to this day, 100% consummate professionals. And then Franchise/{{Lassie}} [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J29ppZkgSVI shows up as the subject of a Duet]], and Brad and Wayne (and ''especially'' Ryan in the back) just devolve into puddles of joy.
* PlayedForLaughs when Music/GirlsAloud invited a special guest over on their Christmas special. The girls got so excited to meet Paul O'Grady's dog that Nadine took him right out of Paul's arms when the two showed up at the door. An offended Paul then takes the dog away from them and threatens to give their Christmas presents to the Sugababes.
* ''Series/PersonOfInterest'': Shaw is a self-admitted SociopathicHero, but she absolutely adores [[TeamPet Bear]].

[[folder:Music]]
* French singer Richard Gotainer wrote a whole song -- "Le Youki" -- in baby talk, precisely to mock this habit of dog owners. You can find [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wx7vKvQ4axQ the clip there]] (and you probably don't need to understand French to get the gist of it). Warning: EarWorm (and slightly {{NSFW}} too).
* In the {{Psychostick}} song 'We Ran Out of CD Space', various strange scenarios are posited, including the following example of this trope:
-->''What if your room was filled with lots and lots of puppy dogs?\\
You would be like "Aww, look at the puppy dogs! Awwwwww, come 'ere! Come 'ere!\\
Awwwww! Whatcha doin little guy? Whatcha doin? Ooh whatcha wookie-wookie!\\
Who's the puppy dog? You're the puppy dog! Who's the puppy dog? Little puppy doggies!"''
* This happens in the music video for Music/{{Cimorelli}} and Matty B's cover of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uM7nlIsBLoc Don't Call Me Baby]] when all the girls but Dani squee about seeing Matty B.

* Lucy the Bulldog. She was the pet of Wrestling/TripleH, and he walks on screen, picks her up above his head, and says something along the lines of "Schnuzzywuzzywoofle". Funnier than it sounds. Woulda been even funnier if Lucy hadn't been upstaging the guy HHH was theoretically feuding with, Wrestling/ChrisJericho.
* Pepper. Wrestling/AlSnow, he who carried around a mannequin head named Head, had lost Head. He found a little chihuahua to replace him. Al brings the dog out for one of his matches and leaves him in the care of announcer Jim Ross. Ross quickly became more interested in the dog than the match, and was very displeased with how much the loud crowd scared the dog. Pepper was almost immediately thereafter retired from television -- [[PutOnABusToHell by being kidnapped, cooked and fed to poor Al by the Big Bossman]].
* Happened again with Rene Dupree's poodle, Fifi. Ross would talk about how terrified the dog was (Dupree being a heel) but whenever the camera was on her, she'd be stood on her hind legs, happily being fed popcorn by fans.

[[folder:Video Games]]
* ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsJudgment'' has [[Lightnovel/FullMetalPanic Bonta-kun]], a mecha that was already cute in its source canon. And, while it's a surprisingly decent if not outstanding combat unit, it's defining trait is causing many villain characters from other series to find it adorable. In fact, it's ability to induce Cuteness Proximity is so pronounced it can even affect ''[[GundamSEED Rau]] [[OmnicidalManiac Le Creuset.]]''
** Heck, it can affect the resolve of even the [[EldritchAbomination Anti-Spiral]].
* Chibiterasu, the protagonist of ''VideoGame/{{Okamiden}}''. Full stop. I mean come on, even '''SAKUYA''' melts when she sees him. To be fair, [[http://mognetcentral.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/chibiterasu.jpg anyone would melt]].
* ''Franchise/TalesSeries''
** Tear Grants of ''VideoGame/TalesOfTheAbyss'' did this, although to a slightly lesser extent: She didn't completely lose her dignity, but cute things at first were the only indicators of her softer side. She shows it more in the anime adaption.
** ''VideoGame/TalesOfTheWorld: Radiant Mythology'' has her do this on... [[VideoGame/TalesOfRebirth Eugene Gallardo]], claiming him to be big, fluffy and cute.
** [[EmotionlessGirl Presea]] (and, to a lesser extent, [[TheStoic Regal]]) from ''VideoGame/TalesOfSymphonia'' seems to have a great fondness for poking paw pads.
* Princess Sapphire from ''VideoGame/Disgaea3AbsenceOfJustice'' has a thing for anything "cutesy". Like, for example, [[LesYay Raspberyl]]. One instance in the main story had a teddy bear out in the middle of Team Mao's path. Almaz rushes out ahead of Sapphire to pick up the bear, only to get jabbed by the trap inside and subsequently cursed to die. The trap had her name on it, he knew it, and he went to intercept it anyway.
* ''VideoGame/BlazBlue''
** Noel Vermillion is a somewhat incompetent but serious minded officer for the NOL, the government which rules ''VideoGame/BlazBlue'''s world. But when put in close proximity to a panda, well, [[http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120310231222/blazblue/images/thumb/5/54/Noel_Vermillion_%28Calamity_Trigger%2C_Story_Mode_Illustration%2C_6%29.png/786px-Noel_Vermillion_%28Calamity_Trigger%2C_Story_Mode_Illustration%2C_6%29.png this]] happens.
** [[ChineseGirl Litchi]] tends to get a little ''[[LesYay too]]'' friendly when she's drunk. Put a girl near her and [[http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120310230746/blazblue/images/thumb/4/4a/Noel_Vermillion_%28Calamity_Trigger%2C_Story_Mode_Illustration%2C_3%2C_Type_A%29.png/786px-Noel_Vermillion_%28Calamity_Trigger%2C_Story_Mode_Illustration%2C_3%2C_Type_A%29.png this]] and [[http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100809145329/blazblue/images/thumb/c/c3/Tsubaki_Yayoi_%28Continuum_Shift%2C_Story_Mode_Illustration%2C_3%2C_Type_C%29.png/786px-Tsubaki_Yayoi_%28Continuum_Shift%2C_Story_Mode_Illustration%2C_3%2C_Type_C%29.png this]] and even [[http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20131102194155/blazblue/images/4/4c/Gag_Reel_%28Chronophantasma%2C_Story_Mode_Illustration%2C_4%2C_Type_C%29.png this]] happens. In fact, Noel's example above is also a result of this.
** [[CuteMonsterGirl Mak]][[MsFanservice oto]] also suffers from chronic Cuteness Proximity. Put cute kid Carl next to her [[RunningGag and]] [[http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120310230746/blazblue/images/thumb/7/74/Noel_Vermillion_%28Calamity_Trigger%2C_Story_Mode_Illustration%2C_2%29.png/786px-Noel_Vermillion_%28Calamity_Trigger%2C_Story_Mode_Illustration%2C_2%29.png this]] [[RunningGag happens]].
** Makoto's also on the receiving end of this trope in Arcade mode. Post-combat commentary from Ragna, Noel, Platinum, and Taokaka all show how irresistable her tail is to them.
** Also, in one episode of ''[[FourthWallMailSlot Teach Me, Miss Litchi!]]'':
--> '''Makoto:''' Hey, look who's here, it's Tao! Aren't you just adorable? Yes you are, yes you are!\\
'''Taokaka:''' Furry tail girl! Your tail is so fluffy today too! Furry furry furry furry furry ooooh...\\
'''Litchi:''' You two are like animals.\\
'''Noel:''' ''(HeartSymbol)'' ... Aaaaah...
** The funniest example is a young Ragna descending into this upon meeting Jubei. This was ''before'' he became the pissed-off GoodIsNotNice AntiHero we know today, but still...
-->'''Ragna:''' You're a kitty! A big fluffy kitty!
* In the ''VideoGame/ValkyriaChronicles'' downloadable side mission "Edy's Detachment", it's revealed that the normally [[ColdSniper distant and aloof sniper]] Marina Wulfstan chokes up in the presence of puppies.
-->'''Edy:''' What about the time Marina went running off after that puppy?\\
'''Marina:''' ...So cute...
** She also became distracted by bunnies in the field when she was trying to give her mission briefing in the sniper bonus mission.
* NPC banter in ''VideoGame/DragonAgeOrigins'' has Leliana teasing big stoic Sten.
-->'''Leliana:''' I saw you playing with that kitten and dangling string for it.\\
'''Sten:''' I was helping it train.\\
'''Leliana:''' I knew it, you're just a big softie.\\
'''Sten:''' Stop saying that.\\
'''Leliana:''' Softie!\\
'''Sten:''' I hate humans.
** This actually becomes a bit of a RunningGag if Sten and Leliana are both in the party. Another brilliant example is her catching Sten picking flowers ([[BlatantLies for medicinal purposes]]).
** And from the ''[[VideoGame/DragonAgeOriginsAwakening Awakening]]'' expansion, you can get a kitten as an inventory item. Click it, and Anders the mage coos "Whooo's a pretty kitty?" and similar bits of cuteness overload.
* Touka from ''VideoGame/{{Utawarerumono}}'', melts when the weasel... rabbit... [[Franchise/{{Pokemon}} Nidoran]] thing that lives with Aruru gets near and does a poor job disguising it.
* In the ''VideoGame/JakAndDaxter'' series, [[WeaselMascot Daxter]] seems to have this effect on [[GeniusDitz Tess]], and it later [[InterspeciesRomance gets upgraded to]] SickeninglySweethearts.
* In ''PlanescapeTorment'' the protagonist can find a small model of a modron (a cube-shaped creature) with articulated limbs that move - essentially an action figure. One dialogue branch regarding the "toy" has your large, heavily-scarred, tattooed and scary protagonist devolve into an excited little child detailing the adventures of "cube hero". At least one of your sidekicks finds it deeply annoying, after which the protagonist and the action figure "agree" that he's a jerk.
-->'''Morte:''' I'm gonna smash that Modron cube to bits.\\
'''Nameless One:''' Did you hear anything, cube hero? Neither did I!
* Terra from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI'' seems to undergo a total personality shift from her normally timid self whenever she's within hugging distance of a Moogle. This, naturally, was brought up in the ''VideoGame/DissidiaFinalFantasy'' games, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Z-9G9PXXMU as seen here.]]
* One of the more amusing scenes in ''VideoGame/GoldenSun: The Lost Age'' has the dread pirate Briggs begging his [[NeverMessWithGranny terrifying grandmother]] to defend him from Felix & Co... by way of a [[ChewbaccaDefense nonsensical argument]] starring ''his own son''. Who isn't even ''there''. And she ''still'' cracks and summons a giant salamander to battle, because she just ''can't'' disappoint [[GooGooGodlike her baby]] [[EnfantTerrible great-grandson]]...
* WoW's Mylune is a dryad with a rather... bubbly personality. She can't so much as talk about "the wee animals" without devolving into baby talk and [[{{Squee}} incoherent squealing]]. It's difficult for the fans to not have this reaction to Mylune herself.
* ''VideoGame/RuneFactory4'' seems to like these. Both Arthur and Forte have a serious weakness for cute things, though Forte attempts to hide it.
** If you're dating someone, particularly one of the more reserved characters, the player can often get them to say something uncharacteristically sentimental and they'll blame it on you being too cute and distracting.
* ''VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends'': [[EldritchAbomination Vel]]'[[MadScientist Koz]] lampshades this trope when played on the map Howling Abyss. The Howling Abyss is the home of the delightfully adorable [[http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130411033635/leagueoflegends/images/7/7f/Poro.png Poros]], whose appearance causes Vel'Koz to utter the quote on the top of the page.
* In ''VideoGame/PuyoPuyo'' we have Schezo, a rather serious but misunderstood Dark Wizard. If you put Dongurigaeru within walking distance of him...he absolutely melts and [[ImTakingHerHomeWithMe wants to take it home]].
* The Master Swordsman from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaMajorasMask'' seems to find Link adorable when he wears the bunny hood, but he quickly composes himself and tells him to take it off because it might get dirty in the dojo.
* An audio tape from ''Videogame/MetalGearSolidPeaceWalker'' features Paz coming across a group of MSF mercenaries gushing over a kitten. In contrast, Paz is disgusted that a group of tough soldiers are acting like schoolgirls over a cute kitten.
* Melia from ''VideoGame/{{Xenoblade}}'' has a tendency to break her very formal attitude and posh speech when she's alongside Riki, the [[RidiculouslyCuteCritter Nopon party member]]. It's called out in a few instances by other team members.
-->'''Riki:''' Riki try ''reaaaally'' hard! You see?\\
'''Melia:''' Of course you sweet thing! Who's a good boy?\\
'''Shulk:''' Uhh... Melia, are you feeling OK?

* Saber in ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'' for lions and stuffed animals. Played for a joke initially and then used as fuel to tear her [[TheWomanWearingTheQueenlyMask emotional fašade]] apart. It's what she would normally be and would ''like'' to be if she didn't have to be [[spoiler:King Arthur]] and whatnot.
* Nayuki from ''VisualNovel/{{Kanon}}'', [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIZKNsaANU8 any time she sees a cat.]]
* Rena Ryuuguu from ''VisualNovel/HigurashiNoNakuKoroNi'' is like this to damn near anything she thinks is the least bit cute (whether it actually is or not), going so far as having a mindset that involves this phenomenon, often triggered with her CatchPhrase of "[[MemeticMutation I want to take it home]]!" You do not want to be Rena's target when she's in ''ImTakingHerHomeWithMe'' mode -- [[spoiler:as Hanyuu can attest]].
* Momoyo of ''VisualNovel/MajiDeWatashiNiKoiShinasai'' has strong reactions to any cute girl she happens upon. Chris is a little more controlled, but still has a weakness for cute things like teddy bears.

[[folder:Web Comics]]
* ''Webcomic/{{xkcd}}'':
** Explained in the 231th strip, [[http://xkcd.com/231/ "Cat Proximity"]], which is the partial TropeNamer.
** The staff of ''Ubersoft'' [[http://www.ubersoft.net/comic/hd/2007/03/xkcd-desk try to exploit this and fail.]]
* ''Webcomic/TheOrderOfTheStick'':
** [[http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0268.html Phil Rodriguez]], upon seeing [[FormallyNamedPet Mr. Scruffy]]... although Phil has a fairly low Intelligence and high Inanity of Statements to begin with.
** ''[=OotS=]'' also demonstrates that Cuteness Proximity [[http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0163.html is actually dangerous]]. As is [[http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0781.html making fun of it.]]
** Belkar also falls victim to this trope, after a fashion, in that Mr. Scruffy is the ''only'' living thing he'll show any sort of empathy for. Though that's mainly because, as a freaking ''cat'', Mr. Scruffy is not only cute but also totally {{Badass}}.
* In ''Webcomic/RPGWorld'', one time {{badass}} ActionGirl Cherry, left alone with [[TeamPet Dragobo]], took a quick look to each side before giving him a giant glomp. (Arguably, her reaction to Hero also falls under this category).
* [[http://the-qlc.com/loserz/go/407 Gus]] in ''Webcomic/{{Loserz}}'' [[http://the-qlc.com/loserz/go/408 has this effect on people.]] Even Jodie's mother, who is normally quite emotionless, [[http://the-qlc.com/loserz/go/411 is reduced to complete incomprehensibility]].

** Not so averted with [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2010-06-11 the main shapeshifting character triggering this for Sarah with her full squirrel form]].
* ''Webcomic/QuestionableContent'':
** Marigold's Anthro-PC Momo (who looks like a little girl anime character) has this effect on Dora, as seen [[http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1412 in this strip]]. Apparently its a common enough occurrence to warrant having a taser feature built in to shock them out of it.
** Hannelore has a different sort of [[http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1585 reaction]] to cute felines. Hilarious since Mieville pulled the CatsAreMean card in the previous strip.
* The evil kittens in ''Webcomic/SluggyFreelance'' make use of this too... although it usually only works once. ([[KillerRabbit It doesn't need to work more than once.]])
* Bree's cats are a frequent subject of her JournalComic ''[[http://www.sexdrugsandjunecleaver.com/2009/10/26/pussywhipped/ Sex, Drugs, and June Cleaver]]''.
* Princess Dewcup from ''Webcomic/YetAnotherFantasyGamerComic'' is a [[http://yafgc.net/?id=159 truly desperate case]]. The midget direwolf breed [[http://yafgc.net/?id=65 Wargi]] weaponizes this.
* Hamsters appear to [[http://www.shortpacked.com/blog/comic/book-10/04-hamalanche/allthecutes/ have this effect]] on Amber in ''Webcomic/{{Shortpacked}}''.
** Leslie is normally one of the more rational members of the cast. This all goes away the minute she goes near "''baaaaabiiiiieeesssss''".
* In ''Webcomic/TheInexplicableAdventuresOfBob'', Jean remains [[http://bobadventures.comicgenesis.com/d/20081220.html surprisingly articulate]] at her first exposure to a unicorn, but it [[http://bobadventures.comicgenesis.com/d/20081227.html doesn't last long.]]
* In ''Webcomic/TheLastDaysOfFoxhound'', Sniper Wolf's friendship with [[IntellectualAnimal Berthold]] may not be an example of this trope, but her [[http://gigaville.com/comic.php?id=409 reaction]] to his [[http://gigaville.com/comic.php?id=417 half-dog pups]] [[http://gigaville.com/comic.php?id=418 certainly is.]]
-->'''Sniper Wolf:''' Aren't you ze cutest? Yes you are! ''Yes you are.''\\
'''Berthold:''' Fantastic, she's a grandma.
* In ''Webcomic/{{Freefall}}'', upon first meeting Florence, an uplifted wolf, robots have a tendency to immediately shout "doggy!" Every robot. This is because they're not programmed with a proper greeting for Bowman's Wolves, so they have to use the first greeting she received after arriving on Jean... which came from [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} Helix.]]
* In ''Webcomic/GirlGenius'', Agatha's little clanks [[http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20051209 can inspire this]].

--> '''Joel''': [[http://www.weregeek.com/2012/10/04/ You know]], there's gotta be a way to make this into an indie game. We just need a scoring system.

[[folder:Web Original]]
* The ''Talking Animals'' channel on Website/YouTube has [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxNg7ZP6E5E this video]] on the subject.
* Quite a few of the [[LetsPlay Let's Players]] own pets who like to vocalize or otherwise annoy their owners at an in-opportune time.
** Lord Vega, for example, has had at least one terror-laden blind run of ''[[VideoGame/SilentHill1 Silent Hill]]'' interrupted by his cat.
** LetsPlay/DeceasedCrab has had mixed reactions to his kitty peeking in on him during his recordings. From irritation ("Begone, kitty! I'm trying to ''TabletopGame/{{Shadowrun}}''!") to your basic "Aww, you're a good kitty". (And, of course, the one time he tried to get his cat to meow on cue, the cat refused to cooperate.)
*** Also when he and [=MadamLuna=] LP'ed ''VideoGame/{{Shadowgate}}'' Luna ended up cooing over a Sphinx.
** Subverted in Let's Play ''VideoGame/SuperCastlevaniaIV'', where the apparent stimulus for Belmont killing Dracula was the death of his kitten, Fluffer Butter Waffle Nut. Naturally, the more the cat is discussed, the further into madness the speaker tends to descend...
** LetsPlay/HCBailly tends to play a lot of games with cats in them. Perhaps the best example of this trope was in Let's Play ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger'' when he started collecting cats and starting off several episodes with an excited "and we got another kitty! Yes! Yes!"
** Frankomatic has his cat interrupt him during several inopportune moments during his LP's, most notably in Donkey Kong GB:
-->''There's a cat jabbing its claws into my leg; let's see if that helps my playing ability any! Please stop, Tommy. [drops off a platform in the game] Oh God! Clearly it does not help my playing ability in the least! Do you see what you're doing to me, cat? Seriously, cut it out!''
** LetsPlay/{{Chuggaaconroy}} has gotten distraced by his cats doing goofy or cute things in his ''VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine'' LP.
** LetsPlay/{{Gronkh}} frequently parodies this in the interaction with his {{Minecraft}} dogs.
** Chorocojo Roxy went into a coma due to Cuteness Proximity Overload at one point. This trope is her hat, the same way that being a gamer girl is Sammy's, being a rage-spewing badass is Misty's, being the OnlySaneMan is Lady's, and being a sexy chick in a land full of rapey-rapeys is Roxy's cousin Foxy's.
** LetsPlay/{{Markiplier}} becomes fascinated by a tiny version of the boxes in an Amnesia custom story, dubbing it Tiny Box Tim. It's mentioned in another LP that he finds tiny versions of everyday objects adorable, such as baby shoes.
** Steeler of LetsPlay/MarioPartyTV spends the entire [[VideoGame/MarioKart8 Shell Cup]] video gushing over how cute Baby Luigi is.
** The guys of AchievementHunter are not immune to cooing over the cats, horses, tamed wolves, and baby animals in ''{{Minecraft}}''. A baby horse making dying noises when it got trapped in a block was enough to get all six of them to rush over to save it.
* Website/ThatGuyWithTheGlasses
** WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic stops his mad rampage around a convention hall, shouting and shooting at an evil CasperTheFriendlyGhost (ItMakesSenseInContext), to tell a little girl that she's adorable. And it's all ad-libbed.
** Although he is typically immune to overt cuteness (see his reaction to FullHouse), the Critic fell completely into this trope when watching ''Series/SesameStreet'', due to his childhood love of that series. He can't even finish the review.
** On another note from Website/ThatGuyWithTheGlasses, [[WebVideo/YouCanPlayThis JewWario]] would do this whenever he saw a kitten or a catgirl, proclaiming "KITTY!" in a high-pitched voice.
** The oh-so-cynical [[WebVideo/TheNostalgiaChick Nostalgia Chick]] turns into a squealing fangirl at her first sight of baby Creator/ChristianBale.
** [[WebVideo/AtopTheFourthWall Linkara]] cooing over Linksano's [[Series/DoctorWho Cybermat]] after it refuses to attack him.
* ''Wiki/SCPFoundation'': "[[http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-2558-j SCP-2558-J]] has displayed the ability to distract people far more than merited by being kittens, even considering their anomalous abilities. Suggested reclassification as Euclid." An even greater sign of the power of cuteness in these things: after an experiment resulted in '''grenade''' versions of the kittens, there was a resolution signed to prevent further weaponization of the creatures. That's right, the Foundation, a group that goes through expendable manpower like popcorn, refusing to let harm come to kittens.
* ZomgSmells gives us [[http://www.zomgsmells.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=35&products_id=75 Marmalade]] [[CuteKitten Tabby]], which threatens to fall into this throughout, and finally does at the end.
* BoardJames (and his co-host, "Motherfucker Mike") had this response when he first saw the ''Doggie Doo'' dog.
* LetsPlay/SimonLane blurts out a high-pitched "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWW!" whenever he encounters something cute in a game, particularly [[Machinima/YogscastMinecraftSeries in Minecraft mods and updates]].
* Both times that a puppy has appeared on the Co-Optional Podcast it has reduced Dodger's vocabulary to gushing about it.
* In the ''Podcast/WelcomeToNightVale'' episode "Visitor", Cecil degenerates into this in pretty short order when a small creature he can't identify finds its way into the studio. Most of the first half of the podcast is him gushing over how adorable it is, when he is usually far more calm and collected. He goes into CutenessOverload when it makes noise or touches him. [[spoiler: [[KillerRabbit Then it bites him...]]]]
* Parodied in the original series of ''WebOriginal/ProtectorsOfThePlotContinuum''; it is a RunningGag that Agent Jay gets this way over the ''monsters'' of ''Literature/LordOfTheRings''.

[[folder:Western Animation]]
* In an episode of ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons'' where all the guys are in the Navy for some reason and their sub is filling up with water, their thoughts go to their loved ones and in Moe's thought balloon he's stroking his kitty and talking baby talk to it before angrily turning to the audience shouting, "What are YOU lookin' at!?"
** Mr Burns attempts to invoke this, along with AllGirlsLikePonies by bribing Lisa with a trio of cute ponies called Sugar Belle, Honeysuckle[[labelnote:*]](also the name of a My Little Pony character voiced by Nancy Cartwright, voice actor of Bart Simpson)[[/labelnote]] and Dew Drop.
* Whenever [[TheFlintstones Fred Flintstone]], normally a rough-around-the-edges Ralph Kramden-type, sees his daughter Pebbles, he goes all sweet and cute BumblingDad and starts to gush about his "little Pebbly-poo".
* ''WesternAnimation/KingOfTheHill'': Hank Hill has a mild case of this for his dog Ladybird. While an old dog, she is one of the few living things that the emotionally repressed Hank will show open and adoring affection and emotion for. Also his father Cotton, a gruff misogynist even ''more'' emotionally closed off than Hank, is similarly adoring of his baby boy Good Hank.
* The series of Creator/ChuckJones cartoons with ''Marc Anthony and Pussyfoot'', starting with ''WesternAnimation/FeedTheKitty'', are fueled by this trope. Big, gruff bulldog Marc Anthony completely melts before adorable kitty Pussyfoot and becomes a [[LittleGuyBigBuddy staunch protector]] of the na´ve kitten. Honestly, who wouldn't?
* On ''WesternAnimation/ThePenguinsOfMadagascar'', the penguins were tasked with hatching an egg. Most of them don't last very long before succumbing to their brooding instinct despite their leader's insistence that they think manly thoughts. Then again, they may have been doing just that -- as Kowalski points out, "incubation ''is'' a guy thing for penguins". Cuteness Proximity comes up again in the episode "Cute-astrophe", when Private discovers how to turn his own cuteness up to [[UpToEleven 132%]], which makes people faint on sight.
* On ''WesternAnimation/TheVentureBrothers'', a lot of cats pounce on Dr. Orpheus in one episode, leading him to giggle and say "They smell ''my'' cat!"
* In ''TheMarvelousMisadventuresOfFlapjack'', the dog in the episode "Rye Ruv Roo" [[spoiler:does a back flip]] and [[BigWordShout K'Nuckles]] [[spoiler:says "OOOH" in slow-motion]].
* ''WesternAnimation/UglyAmericans''. A werewolf was on trial for tearing a man's arm off, and there was very clear evidence of what he did. The werewolf had a giant baby as a lawyer though, who's only defense was taking a giant bowl of spaghetti and dumping it on his head like a baby does. The judge thought it was adorable and dismissed the charges.
* It is a weakness of WesternAnimation/WordGirl in one episode, in which a villain called "The Butcher" (who is just a guy obsessed with meat) owns a kitten and discover that whenever [=WordGirl=] gets close to the cute kitty, she gets distracted. Justified since that [=WordGirl=] is a little girl.
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Futurama}}''
** Weaponized by the natives of Thuban 9, or as we call them, [[spoiler:housecats]]. They intentionally utilize cuteness proximity to control the minds of the cast.
** When someone devolves into baby talk around Nibblonians they tend to get rather irritated, though if Nibbler is any clue some actually develop a taste for that kind of treatment.
** The mission to get honey from Space Bees in the episode "The Sting" would have gone without a hitch, had Leela not seen that baby queen bee and [[ImTakingHerHomeWithMe decided to take it with her]] (she had a good reason to, however).
-->'''Leela:''' Aw, she's so cute! You adorable wittle, itty-bitty, fuzzy-wuzzy--\\
'''Fry:''' Leela! Stop bonding and let's ''go''! [[ItMakesSenseInContext I got jelly in my underpants!]]
* Happens to [[TheStoic Prowl]], [[TheQuietOne of all people,]] in ''WesternAnimation/TransformersAnimated''. In one episode [[spoiler:they get [[HumanityEnsues turned into humans]] -- you couldn't see that coming, could you? At one point they end up eating in Burger Bot, and]] Prowl plays ''Peek-A-Boo'' with a baby. It's adorable, [[spoiler:but it [[LotusEaterMachine never really happened]]... bummer.]]
* WesternAnimation/BeavisAndButthead have this reaction to a baby goat that appears in the music video to Music/{{Soundgarden}}'s "Black Hole Sun".
* When ''TheWeekenders'' find themselves at the mall's Petting Zoo, Carver tries to pretend he's not affected by all the cute animals...until he spots a bunny.
* A ''WesternAnimation/{{Recess}}'' episode ends with [[SadistTeacher Miss Finster]], [[MeaningfulName Principal Prickly]] and [[AlphaBitch Ashley A]] adopting a stray kitten each and taking baby talk to them as they cuddle them excessively.
* On ''WesternAnimation/JimmyTwoShoes'', this happens to Twinkles, a {{unicorn}}, to the point where even [[MadScientist Heloise]] is effected. Tha catch is that Twinkles is an OmnicidalManiac that makes repeated threats that no one takes seriously, until he finally gives up and leaves.
* In her introductory scene in ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'', Fluttershy is a complete ShrinkingViolet, her attempts to introduce herself growing more squeaky and whispered when Twilight Sparkle tries to press her for her name. That is until she catches sight of Twilight's baby dragon Spike. She opens up immediately and carries on a conversation with Spike all the way back into town, which Twilight had to interrupt once they reached her home.
** This introduction is repeated almost word-for-word in the movie Equestria Girls, where human Fluttershy is shy around human Twilight until she sees dog Spike.
** As seen in the episode [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E12BabyCakes "Baby Cakes"]], Pinkie Pie's usual response to Cuteness Proximity is an urge to burst into song -- even in the neonatal wing of the Ponyville hospital.
** Sometimes averted by [[{{Tomboy}} Rainbow Dash]], who shows a remarkable resistance to the [[TastesLikeDiabetes incredible cuteness]] of a cat offered to her by Fluttershy in the episode "May The Best Pet Win". She is still vulnerable to the cuteness of newborn foals and parasprites, though. She also can't resist giving her Tortoise, Tank, a blink and you'll miss it nose rub before leaving on a trip.
** The ponies are slow to realize the danger of the Parasprites in the episode "Swarm of the Century" because they're so caught up in how adorable they are.
* Happens in a ''WesternAnimation/{{Freakazoid}}'' episode, only the animal is rabid. Freakazoid names him "Foamy".
* WesternAnimation/InvaderZim tries to weaponize this trope by turning a hamster into a giant monster. It ''does'' work, as the military is too busy gushing to fight back... but "Ultra Peepy" won't follow Zim's commands.
* The ''PhineasAndFerb'' episode "Meapless in Seattle" features "cutonium", a substance which renders the drinker hypnotically, irresistibly cute, inducing effects of this kind in anyone who sees them. When [[spoiler:Mitch]] drinks it, Meap warns everyone to cover their eyes. Phineas...doesn't, and he's basically incapacitated until [[spoiler:Isabella]] snaps him out of it.
--> '''Phineas:''' Aww! They're blasting away at each other with really cute death rays!
* ''SymBionicTitan'': Lance is initially suspicious of the alien creature Ilana brings home, although he's taken in by how adorable it is (and tries naming it after a warrior from his home planet).
* ''WesternAnimation/GrojBand'': Laney had this reaction to a feral rat and a big dog that licked her face.
* Sterling WesternAnimation/{{Archer}} does this several times over the course of the series. Mostly to Cheryl's pet ocelot Babou.
--> '''Archer:''' Lana, he remembers me!
* A challenge on ''WesternAnimation/TotalDrama'' has the contestants have to carry napping, adorable babies through sound sensitive areas. Max, the very definition of EvilIsHammy, is surprisingly vulnerable to the little babies, as he [[BabyTalk baby talks]] to his consistently and becomes all mushy. In the end, he even tries to keep the baby, having grown quite attached to it.
--> '''Max''' - "Stay evil, my mini minion!"
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Real Life]]
* On ''TheXFactor'' and ''Series/AmericanIdol'', Simon Cowell is seen to be affected by Cuteness Proximity. TheMeanBrit is actually a vegetarian and animal lover, and his meanness fades away whenever any auditionee brings their pet dog into the audition room.
** Happened again to Simon during auditions for ''Britain's Got Talent'', when an little girl sang the most adorable rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", and he damn near cried. (It helped that the girl sang better than a lot of adults on the show.)
** Whenever someone brings a dog, he usually ends up holding it in his lap. It's likely that there have been more than a few GenreSavvy contestants who have taken advantage of this.
* TruthInTelevision: many people are quite fond of cute things.
** Let's face it; there's a reason why funny animal and child videos are some of the most viewed/highest rated on YouTube/Break/video-aggregator-site-of-choice.
* Cute animals have been used to rehabilitate prisoners.
* [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKhZzGR5tYU These]] [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52duiUapITQ cute]] [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8-LF_lNESE tykes]]. Takes ChildrenAreInnocent to a whole new level.
* [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epUk3T2Kfno This]] video of two sea otters napping. While ''holding hands''. Judging by the cooing in the background, everyone around is in dangerously close proximity.
* This is a known phenomenon in the study of linguistics. It has been termed "motherese" (among others) but is known to happen to pretty much anyone holding a baby. There is a raft of theories as to why this happens. However, there are probably some exceptions, seeing as some people find babies the opposite of cute.
* [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryAK7L_7SZs This video]].
* This little fellow, who in the opinion of the guy playing with him, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Bmhjf0rKe8 "looks like a little monkey"]].
* Creator/KristenBell is usually seen as a very smart and sensible girl. She also has a serious weak spot for [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5jw3T3Jy70 sloths]]. So much so that when her boyfriend was able to bring a sloth to her house for her birthday, she was moved to tears before she had even seen them. When she was on Ellen Degeneres's talk show, Ellen merely hinted that there was a sloth there, and it was enough to send her into tears all over again.
* Whenever there's a child in a Creator/DougWalker Q&A panel, you can be assured his normal eloquence will take a backseat to cooing over them.
* It's been theorized that the reason puppies are so cute is to do with selective breeding. Humans were more likely to raise (and thus protect) [[PuppyDogEyes dogs that looked cute if they evoked the same response as children]]. Therefore those dogs were more likely to survive and breed.
** This also may have had something to do with cat domestication as well, although it's worth noting that housecats' [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wildcat wild ancestors]] are about as cute as domesticated cats. ''Yes they are! Oh, yes they are!''
