Cartoon Network * The channel itself launched on April 1st, 2000; the programming block on Cartoon Network would actually last until December 26th, 2004.
, Boomerang serves as a channel to showcase Turner's extensive animation archives, including pre-1986 MGM (
Tom And Jerry), Hanna-Barbera (
The Smurfs,
Scooby-Doo,
The Snorks,
The Flintstones, the list could go on and on), and older Warner Bros. Animaion material (
Looney Tunes, at least until
Cartoon Network started showing it again). Of note is that, like its corporate sibling
Turner Classic Movies, Boomerang doesn't run
any outside advertising, only stuff for its
sister network and music videos featuring Boomerang's classic programming.
Lately, Boomerang has been adding more relatively-recent material to its schedule, mostly from Cartoon Network's old
Cartoon Cartoons library of shows, and the odd episode or two of
Pokémon. While some have cried foul, it is sort of fair to remember that
some of these shows are nearly twenty years old, and a good majority of the
Cartoon Cartoons are at least a decade old at the time of this edit. Whether this trend will continue remains to be seen, though it's probably inevitable given that they can only rerun their older stuff so many times before it gets sort of stale.
