[[caption-width-right:260:[[ComicallyMissingThePoint Nice crossbow!]]]]

A standard shot where someone is framed between the legs of another person.

Widely used for [[http://demilked.uuuploads.com/movie-poster-cliches/movie-poster-cliches-4.jpg movie posters.]] The most famous example is probably the poster for the ''Film/JamesBond'' film ''Film/ForYourEyesOnly'' and subsequent parodies thereof. The poster designer for this film decided to put the one-piece swimsuit of the woman on back to front, [[ThongOfShielding exposing quite a bit more of her rear]]. This attracted quite a degree of controversy and in several locales shorts were painted on.

The second most common takes after the shot in ''Film/TheGraduate'' and the famous line "[[MrsRobinson Mrs. Robinson]] -- you're trying to seduce me... Aren't you?"

Sometimes this is used to introduce the hero of the story ready to take on his nemesis, or the nemesis that the hero must eventually face, without showing who that person is. The legs of that person could belong to a literally [[AlwaysABiggerFish "bigger bad"]].

Referred to as "The A Frame" in [[http://my-retrospace.blogspot.com/2010/09/vintage-themes-12-a-frame-revisited.html this article.]]

Also a standard shot for DressHitsFloor. This shot is commonly used to establish either TheVamp and/or a {{Dominatrix}}. Can very often overlap with MaleGaze (as in the page image), if the shot is used to draw attention to a character's backside.

In fight scenes the shot is often followed by a {{Groin Attack}}.

* ''Manga/BlackLagoon'':
** Done at one point with Revy framing a very unlucky guy about to get what's coming to him in what's probably a ''Film/ForYourEyesOnly'' reference.
** Also used when [[CreepyChild Gretel]] [[DoesNotKnowHowToSayThanks tries to show her gratitude]] to Rock for being the first person who was ever nice to her and [[HeWillNotCrySoICryForHim crying for her]]... by dropping her panties and sexually proposing to him, [[EvilCannotComprehendGood thinking that is the only way an adult could ever appreciate her in return]]. Needless to say Rock is less than pleased. Given that Hansel and Gretel occasionally change roles as to who is the "brother" and who is the "sister," and both children were sexually abused in snuff films, "Gretel" may be showing Rock his/her true gender, or maybe [[{{Squick}} something worse]]...
* The first episode of ''LightNovel/{{Inukami}}'' includes one of these -- on a ''man'' -- who's going around using a ray to make other men suddenly become naked. It's a very, ''very'' strange first episode.
* Being the PantyFighter that it is, ''Anime/NajicaBlitzTactics'' has several of these to make the PantyShot easier on skirted characters.
* Another PantyFighter, ''Manga/IkkiTousen'', also uses this on occasion, with one notable example occurring at the end of the second episode of ''Dragon Destiny'' with Ryomou as the framer and Ekitoku as the framee.
* The anime ''Manga/GoldenBoy'' uses this when Kintaro [[IndulgentFantasySegue imagines getting dominated by an attractive woman]]. Naturally, she's framing him.
* ''Literature/TheCaseFilesOfYakushijiRyoko'' loves to use the title character's legs as framing devices. She ''does'' have very nice legs, admittedly.
* Seen in the Power Card episode of ''Manga/CardcaptorSakura'' for a good long while. Also briefly seen in the episode with the Change Card.
* In the manga ''Shaolin Sisters'', this shot is used several times in nearly every issue, usually of the heroine, Julin.
* What may be the longest example of this shot can be seen in episode 6 of ''Anime/IMyMeStrawberryEggs'', viewable here [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJvhYRDQ4Tg at 4:20]]. It lasts about 35 seconds.

* Episode 1 of ''Anime/ReCutieHoney''. Even more obviously for fanservice because the title character's bare butt also takes up half of the shot.
* Pearl of all characters has this shot in volume one of the ''[[Franchise/AceAttorney Phoenix Wright Casebook]]'' manga.
* Chidori gets this shot in several episodes of ''LightNovel/FullMetalPanic'' and episode 11 of ''Anime/FullMetalPanicFumoffu''.

* ''Anime/VividredOperation'': No less than five of these shots have been used so far in the series, with usually Rei's legs doing the framing. The first two occur in the first two episodes; One of the sun rising and one of the first Alone are framed between Rei's legs.

* In the fifth ''Manga/FairyTail'' OVA, this shot is used of Flare framing Lucy.
** A later OVA (and the manga omake it was based on) also used this shot in a bath house scene, with Erza's legs framing a half submerged Mavis.

* In the ''WesternAnimation/SpongebobSquarepants'' movie, this is parodied in a scene during the Goofy Goober Rock. [=SpongeBob=] is shown framed by a pair of legs wearing fishnets and high heeled boots. The camera then zooms out to show that the legs belong to Patrick. It's also played with: [[ForcedPerspective Patrick is actually standing directly over SpongeBob]], and his legs are ''huge''.

[[folder:Films -- Live-Action]]
* Silent film ''Film/TheRacket'' has an interesting variant on this, in which a hoodlum is framed from beneath a table, between the table's legs, while the hoodlum sitting at said table in the foreground is shown reaching for a gun in his pocket.
* Too many VHS, and now DVD, covers to count, including almost everything by Broken Lizard and anything with "cheerleader" in the title.
* A very common shot in [[ShowdownAtHighNoon Western showdowns]].
* Lots of posters in [[http://meansheets.com/2010/09/02/legs/ one place.]]
* ''Film/JamesBond'':
** As mentioned in the intro, a TropeCodifier is ''Film/ForYourEyesOnly''. The two principal actresses argued over the poster, saying "those are MY legs". In fact, [[http://jamesbondreview.filminspector.com/2012/12/joyce-bartle-for-your-eyes-only-poster.html they were an artist's rendering of a third woman]]. Weirdly inverted in the [[http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/713TXMR2S1L.gif DVD cover]], with the Bond Girl between 007's legs!
** Also seen in ''Film/YouOnlyLiveTwice'', with one of the women from the bathhouse.
* Used in a homage to ''Film/ForYourEyesOnly'' with posters for ''Film/KingsmanTheSecretService'' where characters are framed between Gazelle's bladed, prosthetic legs. This is appropriate considering the film is a parody/reconstruction of the Roger Moore-era James Bond films.
* In Creator/JamesCameron's ''Film/TrueLies'', this shot is seen during a sequence where Creator/JamieLeeCurtis' character, Helen Tasker, dances seductively for a supposed foreign criminal (who's really her husband in the shadow).
* This shot occurs in the film ''Film/KinkyBoots'' when Lauren models the prototype pair for Charlie. In the commentary, the director mentions that he couldn't resist making it. Also, there isn't any peek-a-boo because Lauren is completely clothed and the boots go all the way up her thigh.
* A little over an hour into ''Film/DirtyRottenScoundrels'', Steve Martin's character, the [[ConMan con-artist]] Freddy, fakes riding a wheelchair down a set of stairs to the beach, and starts crawling his way to the water to drown himself. Janet (played by Glenne Headly), steps in front of him to stop him, and his face is framed by the backs of her calves.
* The ''Film/SuperTroopers'' [[http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1393008384/tt0247745 promo material]]? Nice.
* And in an AffectionateParody of a Busby Berkeley number in ''Film/TheBigLebowski'', [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cz2ET5K6zY0 about 2 minutes into]] the DisneyAcidSequence.
* In ''Film/FortySecondStreet'', for instance, the "Young and Healthy" number has the singers emerging from beneath a whole tunnel of ChorusGirls' legs. The image was also used for the film's poster.

* In ''Film/KillersKiss'', Davey the boxer's opponent is framed between Davey's legs as they sit on their stools before the fight. Davey promptly gets knocked out.
* A rare [[GirlOnGirlIsHot lesbian]] example can be seen in Russ Meyer's ''Vixen'', with a frustrated wife who's about to be seduced by the title Vamp framed in that way.
* Parodied in ''Film/ScottPilgrimVsTheWorld'', with Michael Cera in between Satya Babha's legs.
* Parodied on promotional pictures of ''Film/YouDontMessWithTheZohan'': the camera is positioned under Zohan's very unattractive, hairy legs, while Zohan himself [[SeanConneryIsAboutToShootYou is about to dry your hair]].
* The Disney Channel original movie ''Double Teamed'' has a shot of one of the protagonists between her rival's legs as they prepare to play one-on-one.
* Shows up three times in ''Film/BringItOn: All or Nothing'', with Britney framed by the legs of each the three members of the cheer leading team as they do a routine on the table.
* Variation happens in ''Film/TuckerAndDaleVsEvil'', when the duo drags the [[HalfTheManHeUsedToBe remains]] of the guy who jumped into the woodchipper and the sheriff appears.

Through Lola's legs, Frank is seen firing his pistols in mid-air. This mirrors the scene in the movie where PsychoForHire Lola gives the audience a good look at her black stockings and red CombatStilettos before going GunsAkimbo on the protagonist for the first time.
* The 1992 French movie ''L'Amant'' (''Film/TheLover'', adapted from the eponymous novel by Marguerite Duras). At the beginning of the movie the female protagonist stands with one leg up on the rail of a river ferry, and the car chauffeuring her future lover drives into view between them.
* Done with Barbossa in ''Film/PiratesOfTheCaribbeanAtWorldsEnd'' while standing on the table at the Brethren Court. He is also holding a chain-shot in one hand, and lets the two [[BallsOfSteel cannonballs]] hang during the shot.
* The film ''Film/{{Closer}}'' features one of these shots of Natalie Portman's character, Alice, though the shot is appropriate considering it's in a strip club.
* The poster of zombie movie ''Film/{{Doghouse}}'' features three protagonists armed with golf clubs and a water pistol standing in the background in between the zombie woman's spread legs.
* ''Film/WildWildWest''. After Jim West falls naked out of a water tank in front of three men, we get a shot of two of the men seen between West's legs.
* ''Film/TheVisitor,'' a low-budget Atlanta-filmed horror picture from 1980, has a little girl using her telekinetic powers to overcome some boys bullying her at an ice skating rink. There is a shot between the girl's legs (with a questionable but brief shot at her [[PantyShot yellow panties]]) as the boys attempt to rally against her.
* Art Lean's introduction to Goro in ''Film/MortalKombat'' is with one of these.
* In ''Film/MinorityReport'', after Lamar shoots Witwer, he stands up as Witwer falls into a couch, and the scene cuts to Witwer seen from between Lamar's legs as he gets another bullet.
* In ''Film/FunSize'', with the Galaxy Scout cosplayer's legs during the party scene. This scene was used in much of the commercials.
* In ''Film/InspectorGadget2'', G2 separates her torso from her legs, in the next shot, Squint and Jungle Bob are between G2 legs while she taps her foot.
* Shortly after Dr. Scott enters the castle in ''Film/TheRockyHorrorPictureShowLetsDoTheTimeWarpAgain'', we see a shot of him through Frank's legs similar to the page image.

* The cover art on Kate Angell's [[UsefulNotes/{{Baseball}} baseball]]-themed RomanceNovel ''Strike Zone'' shows a batter squaring off against a high-heel-wearing woman, framed between her legs. This was nominated in the "worst" category of [[http://covercafe.com/contest/2008/WO-res08.html at least one cover-art contest]]; voters felt it made for a bad combination of sex and (implied) violence.

* Done in ''Series/AshesToAshes'' as an {{Homage}} to the ''Film/ForYourEyesOnly'' poster (which appears in the background of the next shot).
* ''Series/{{Scrubs}}''
** After Jordan's "take off your pants" we see her framed by JD's legs, although Jordan was quite clearly TheVamp in this situation.
** ''Scrubs'' uses this again when J.D. imagines having male strippers in his house ([[ItMakesSenseInContext don't ask]]).
* A rare non-fanservice version: In the pilot for the original ''Series/KnightRider'', Michael Knight is wandering through a dark warehouse, looking for Devon Miles. At one point he stops, legs framing the camera (playing the trope straight). Then, in the darkness of the warehouse, we see [[CoolCar KITT's]] red LED light, strobing back and forth.
* This shot is taken of Charlotte Ross in her infamous shower scene on ''Series/NYPDBlue'', showing the reaction of the kid that walked in on her through her legs.
* The DVD boxset for season 2 of ''Series/{{Chuck}}'' gives us a fine view of Sarah's legs.
* Played with in ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer''. It's the very first shot of season 3. A vampire crawls part-way out of his grave, only to be framed by two leather-clad legs. Reverse angle and its not who you were expecting, but Willow. Same thing happens in the first shot of Season 6, too, only this time it's the Buffybot.
** The shot is used in "Family" when Buffy is fighting Spike. It turns out to be a DaydreamSurprise [[CombatSadomasochist sex fantasy]] of Spike's, hence the SexIsViolence vibe.
* Played for laughs in the ''Series/LivingSingle'' episode "The Glass Ceiling", as while [[PublicExposure Max poses nude for a painting]], there's a shot of Khadijah and Synclaire framed by Max's legs to show their reactions, with Khadijah noting "Max, you pierced your belly button!".
* In the episode of ''Series/TheBigBangTheory'', The Cooper-Hofstadter Polarization, this shot is used with Penny's legs framing a remote control car with a camera that's trying to see... well, between her legs.

* 1960's ''Series/{{Batman}}'' episode "It's the Way You Play the Game". During the climactic showdown between the OldWest style villain Shame and the Dynamic Duo, we get a shot of Batman and Robin as viewed between Shame's legs. As noted in the [[AC:{{Film}}]] section this was often done in {{Western}} movie showdowns, and was thus an homage to those scenes.
* The season 9 opener of ''Series/StargateSG1'' has a short shot of General Landry and Cameron Mitchell framed by Vala's leather-clad legs after she comes through the Stargate.
* ''Series/DoctorWho'':
** In "[[Recap/DoctorWhoS32E17PondLife Pond Life]]" [[http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00xwctd episode 1]], the Doctor is framed by UsefulNotes/MataHari's legs at one point.
** Inverted in "The Caves of Androzani". The mercenary gunrunner Stotz is snoozing on the ground, and one of his men stands over him like this in intimidation. Stotz quickly establishes his badass credentials by turning the tables on him.
** [[Recap/DoctorWhoS33E3ATownCalledMercy "A Town Called Mercy"]], being a CowboyEpisode, has such a shot as promotional image, {{the Gunslinger}}'s legs framing the Doctor, Amy and Rory in the style of good old Western duels.
** Victorian NinjaMaid Jenny Flint is shown this way in "The Snowmen" and "The Crimson Horror", wearing her leather catsuit. It's clearly played for fanservice -- on the latter occasion, even [[CelibateHero The Doctor]] is DistractedByTheSexy.
* ''Series/MyNameIsEarl'' likes to use these shots. In one early example, Earl is framed by the legs of a character who [[ObfuscatingDisability wasn't supposed to be able to use them]].
* ''Series/{{Farscape}}''. In "Scratch 'N Sniff" Crichton and D'Argo wake up after a night of drunken carousing to find they've been drugged, robbed and dumped in a store window for people to gawk at. Crichton unsteadily gets to his feet, giving us this shot re D'Argo that reveals Crichton [[WhatDidIDoLastNight is also wearing ladies stockings]].

* Used in the video for Sublime's "Santaria" in the part where two characters are seen in a Wild West setting, ready for a showdown.
* Music/{{Prince}}'s character Gemini (a Franchise/{{Batman}}[=/=]Joker composite) crawls through a tunnel of Vicki Vale clone legs in the music video for "Batdance".

[[folder:Pro Wrestling]]
* For yet-unknown reasons, The Naturals' entrance in TNA Wrestling was often framed by So-Cal Val's legs. TNA tried to get at least one camera shot of So-Cal Val per show back then, resulting in several other wrestlers getting the "frame" treatment. We're guessing it was for {{fanservice}} reasons.
* A few WWE Divas have had this shot, including Stacy Keibler, Sable and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Om3GpMl85fs Miss Jackie]].

[[folder:Video Games]]
* Near the end of "Lair of the Shadow Broker" in ''VideoGame/MassEffect2,'' Shepard and Liara confront the titular Shadow Broker, who knocks them to the ground. The camera cuts to a quick shot of the Broker standing up and Shepard and Liara between his legs, showing how huge the Broker is. (He's at least 10 feet tall, and his legs look to be about a foot in diameter.)
** In the third game's ''Citadel'' DLC, after Wrex wrecks the C-sec shuttle full of mooks, he jumps off the shuttle roof, frames the camera angle of the open side hatch, and then he rushes in and has his way with the mooks inside.
* A very, very long sequence in every ''VideoGame/{{Parodius}}'' game (usually in the last or next-to-last stage) involves the player's ship/penguin/octopus/paper plane flying between the legs of a [[AttackOfThe50FootWhatever humongous]] BellyDancer as she stomps around, filling the screen. This was originally a parody of the giant mechanical spider from ''VideoGame/{{Gradius}} II''.

* ''Machinima/RedVsBlue'':
** Season 8's Episode 10 gives us this shot after [[ActionGirl Tex]] slides through [[ButtMonkey Grif's]] legs. He looks up, and sees the [[HomingProjectile heat-seeking rocket fired earlier]] going for his [[GroinAttack crotch]]. (It doesn't hit him, which is a good thing, as he suffered about six of them earlier in quick succession).
** Season 10 Episode 5 gives us another one with North providing the A-Frame and Washington's head peering in between (at Theta, North's shy AI). A hilarious scene commences where Wash mentions he thought "it" (Theta) [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything would be "bigger"]].

* In addition to being in pretty much every other {{Fanservice}} tropes, ''WesternAnimation/TotallySpies'' uses this trope often.
