I'm A Humanitarian Discussion
Haven: Re: Vandal Savage:

"Recent archaeological evidence suggests that he may actually have invented cannibalism."

Bwahaha! What story is this taken from? Between his Wicked Cultured-ness and the fact that, as an immortal, he doesn't, strictly speaking, need to eat...and of course, the phrase "invented cannibalism". Lolsauce (poured onto people, of course).

TBeholder: Double lolsauce with onion, considering what material evidence could be ever left by the fact of invention. Just imagine stone notewall with developer's records on this subject. And patent application, perhaps.

Maybe the picture on this article should be changed... it's pretty much Nightmare Fuel.

Rissa: Picture's gone. This one's more fun, even if it is inaccurate (gustatus similis porcus, perhaps?)

nayhem: The stock image of people boiling in pots might be artifice, but I see a number of ways around this. First, when boiling a large quantity of water, one can use products that are normally flammable, such as wood or wicker, so long as it conducts sufficient heat to the water to prevent burning the material in question. Second, why boil them alive? Just gut the victim dinner like any other large game.

Rissa: Is the example with the Orcs really cannibalism? Are Orcs and hobbits the same species?

[Re: Armin Meiwes] However, as the victim in fact committed suicide and as Germany had neglected to put cannibalism on the books, it was quite tricky to find a law to try him under.
  • Mike Rosoft: Not really. Initially, the defense claimed that since the victim agreed to be killed, it came within the German law against euthanasia; the court found Meiwes guilty of manslaughter and sentenced him to 8 years and a half in prison. On appeal, he was found guilty of murder and re-sentenced to life in jail.
