Midonin: Not every
Emotionless Girl is a Yuki Nagato clone. Tabitha gives off Yuki vibes, but is
not an Expy. And this isn't the first entry I've seen this in. — REI AYANAMI, BITCH! Love them both! - Toteone (Well, ok, Rei isn't into books.)
Whoever edited away the piece on why Siesta is hated by some (not me, I just strongly dislike her though I began by liking her)... You've just forced me to write a longer piece and change
shit to 'very badly'.
I would have written
justified without a disclaimer (face it those few fans who exist, she's quite horrible to Louise, absolutely no regard for her feelings or safety even close to that of Saito), but I'm sure there are some pretty hairrasing statements about Siesta. Now me, I'm a... that girl with the guns fan. She's kewl. Not pretty really, just sorta, but very awesome.
Siesta treats Saitou better than Louise does, but she's still treated very badly by some fans.
However this is partly justified by a plethora of reasons. If Saito wasn't into a BDSM relationship, emotionally as well as physically, as sub he would likely have rebelled by now, which puts Louise's tsun into question vis a vis bad treatment. Furthermore Siesta does not care at all that Saito is progressively bonded, in love, declared to be in love and married to Louise, but keeps on tempting him like a homebreaking seductress. She is also fainthearted and has a silly name at best. Then there's her incredible sluttiness (though at the time he is only bonded to Louise and has recently saved her from being raped), at the point of jumping in naked into his bath at the slightest excuse then she is so so eager she bends forward at him that he can see her rack clearly. Worst of all she offers Louise's bodyguard and man, Saito, a sleeping potion so he can give it to his master if a critical moment comes up where he will have to lay his life on the line for her. She promptly instructs him to slip it to her somehow and leave her behind unconscious, alone and unprotected in a warzone. Clearly one can see how her selfish, spoony behavior will leave fans of the prime relationship upset. This troper himself thought she was nice, but her constant thoughtless and self-centered behavior grated on his patience till it was worn thin, ragged and all out at some places. - Toteone
Or, you know, Saito has been subjected to the oldest brainwashing techniques in the book. Louise's treatment of him runs right down the list -
- dehumanizing of individuals by keeping them in filth
- sleep deprivation
- psychological harassment
- inculcation of guilt
- group social pressure
Seriously, he's being treated like a North Korean POW. In addition, he has literally nowhere to run to until after Stockholm Syndrome has set in - the entire country will be looking for him, and he's just a kid who can't read or write the country's language, and has no skills that would allow him to survive even
if he got away. Combining that with love bombing from everything non-Louise with a double X chromosome, and it's no wonder he isn't leaving.
I'm not shipping any characters in the story. I do appreciate the fairly realistic portrayal of classic brainwashing techniques. (honestly, though, I would prefer it if Saito organized a commoner's revolution. If he were able to jerry rig something that could theoretically connect to the internet, he'd rule the world after the next eclipse. The internet was originally intended to be a weapon, which means his Gandalfr powers apply. Cue firing nuclear missiles through the portals between worlds and overthrowing the oppressive magocracies once and for all.) Err... I'm getting off topic. Um... does the brainwashing go under alternate character interpration? whatever.

- Wouldn't the ability to wield any weapon be a skill that would help him survive? Also we haven't seen anything going from Saito's world to Louise's world during an eclipse so its possible that its one way and eclipses don't last for very long anyways. Also, I'm fairly certain that even if the nuclear weapons were hooked up to the internet that they would have various fail safes to prevent outsiders from launching them. Finally, I'm sure that many peasents would choose the current system over being you know nuked.
- He can use any weapon, even in ways it's physically impossible to do (see: fifty foot long sword slashes). Compared to the violation of physics that that involves, being able to bypass electronic security measures and telekinetically maneuver two keys is trivial. It shouldn't be necessary need to nuke common citizens (nuclear deterrents are the kind of deterrents that work). Just find out the locations of military bases in Albion, along with the private estates of those nobles who drive their elitism into Malfoy-like territory (given the lack of civil rights, this shouldn't be that hard), announce a week in advance that unless they start immediate substantial actions for equal human rights, that they'll be wiped off the map. At least some of them are going to disbelieve the ultimatum, a week later they get destroyed utterly, and the rest of the world falls into place. And being able to use any weapon isn't going to protect him against a competent bounty hunter - he has to sleep eventually, if nothing else, and I doubt he knows how to survive in the wilderness for anything besides hunting. If he gets disarmed, he's toast. He might be able to find work as a professional soldier, but his lack of experience fighting in an army (fighting alone is completely different), lack of ranged attacks and youth is going to hurt his combat abilities, along with his illiteracy. Given that people from Earth regularly end up in the universe, there has to be some kind of non-summoning based portal, and assuming the zero that "escaped" wasn't immediately turned into fine powder when the leading edge that returned to earth lost chemical bonds with the portion that hadn't gone through the portal, it's a fairly safe assumption that at least some of the portals are two-way. The time window shouldn't be that much of an issue given how fast ICB Ms travel. I doubt he'd be psychologically capable of using nuclear weaponry, given his pacifism and the trend that the Japanese in general have toward a nuclear taboo, but being tortured for several months on end would leave anyone unhinged and homicidal. "I will build a new world on the ashes of the old", or something along those lines.
- In regards to Saito's ability to survive should he runaway I'd like to point out that early on in the series (before Stockholm Syndrome would have set in) very few people had any idea about Saito's powers and thus the reaction to hearing he ran away would be more along the lines of "Wow, Lousie really sucks", and not "Quick, we must hunt him down before he destroys us all". Also given that Gandalfr's purpose is to protect the void mage I have doubts about Saito being able to use his powers in ways that would harm Louise. Also, I'd like to point out that Henrietta seems to be moving the country towards equal rights (e.g. Saito is now a member of the nobility). Actually, given that we never see any familiars rebel against their masters I purpose that "Summon Servant" includes a degree of mind control.
- It's sort of a plot point later in the series that Louise thinks Saito's devotion and professed love come from being mind controlled by the Summon Servant spell. And Wangst ensues.
