A slightly unusual example - Kerr Avon from "Blake's 7". The character does fit more into the Anti-Hero mould, but his growing penchant for leather outfits over the course of the series would point toward either an attempt by the costume designers to put him into the Troubled But Cute category, or a serious attempt at fanservice. Certainly during the second and third series, details about his troubled past are revealed.
James Dean could be considered the prototype for this.
Sketch: Removed all the action-adventure series specific examples, because I felt they were already covered under All Girls Want Bad Boys. This trope seems more specific to series with a school/workplace setting. Otherwise, what's the difference? Vampire Buddha: removed these: * Truth In Television, as this editor is madly in love with a Troubled But Cute, antisociality and leather jacket included.
* Truth In Television: this editor's life. Leather jacket? Check. Heart of gold? It's there, somewhere. Antisocial? Don't get me started...
