Regarding Samurai Deeper Kyo and this topic: Kyo's former protege Akira, the blind swordsman who uses ice magic, is probably the one you mean. He's infuriated when anyone else seriously endangers Kyo because he wants to kill him himself.

- This is somewhat subverted in Firefly. Malcolm, the Captain, is in a fight with a villain. Zoe restrains the other members of the crew, saying something to the effect of, "The captain needs to do this himself". Malcolm, panicked, replies, "No I don't! No I don't!". The crew then shoots the villain.
