Ununnilium:
[No it wasn't; her default was gunslinger, Rikku's default was thief, and Paine's was warrior. Granted, Yuna was forced to use the dancer class in the first tutorial boss battle, but that doesn't make it a default class!]

Trigger Loaded: I am really wondering who wrote that article about one-third of D&D characters being useless. Is this person talking about the computer games, or the tabletop games? 'Cause as an avid player, I hardly see 'one-third' of the classes in D&D being underused. Plus, the Bard has always been a handy class. I'm thinking of taking out that entire example.
Pteryx: One-third seems like an exaggeration to me too. And the bard's not so much bad as a "fifth wheel" class, something that can't quite fill the shoes of the fighter, wizard, cleric, or rogue well enough to replace any of them.
Trigger Loaded: Exactly. There are lots of 'Fifth-wheel' characters, like Warlocks, Monks, and what-not. But they are all still useful, and most class abilities tend to be handy. Unless this person ONLY plays in dungeon crawls, I have no idea where he got this 'one-third to a half' number from. And I can't think of any utterly useless class aside from NPC classes. Some less effective, but hardly the rank of Spoony Bard. Unless anybody objects, I'm thinking of taking out the entire entry by the end of the week. (That would be... Oct. 13-14, 2007.)
Sci Vo: Spoony Bard is currently only categorized as a videogame trope and they referenced another videogame trope in the entry, so I think it's pretty clear that they were talking about the computer games. I haven't played enough of the computer games to say whether the fraction is correct there either, but it's believable to me, since that's not the medium that the classes were designed for. I'd say leave it, or edit it to specify "in the computer games".
Trigger Loaded: Done and done.
Prfnoff: Removed the Super Paper Mario example. There's a difference between mostly useless and less useful than some other character. ccoa: Removed the following because it really isn't an example of this trope. Demyx is not a character the player gets to control and he's not useless (as noted). The only thing he has in common is that he's a bard - which actually isn't a requirement.
