Paul A: It occurs to me that new productions of the Les Miserables musical, in whatever language, are generally derived from the blockbuster London version, which was rather loosely adapted from the French original. But what happens when the musicial is done in French these days — do they go back to the original lyrics, or use a Recursive Translation of the English version? Anybody know?

wanderfairer: The 1991 French libretto incorporates some but not all of the original lyrics.
