Seven Seals: Seeing the majority of the examples are subversions, I'd say this is well on its way of becoming a Discredited Trope (it's not quite there yet, as some of the more cheesy shows still use it straight occasionally).


Eran of Arcadia: I removed the sentence that no one mentions "an afterlife of any kind" in Harry Potter, as the afterlife is a huge part of the plot throughout the series.


Danel: What, actually, is this trope? I mean, it contains the Harry Potter example which is just a series that features Christmas. So what is this trope about? It seems to have a meaning, but then it just devolves into mentions of Christmas.

Rebochan: Seconded - I read the introduction and I *still* don't know what this trope is.


Prfnoff: This is clever, but not really an example of the trope. And the quote is not technically from the song, but from Lehrer's spoken introduction:
That Christmas, with its spirit of giving, offers us all a wonderful opportunity each year to reflect on what we all most sincerely and deeply believe in.

I refer of course, to money.

BritBllt: Okay, I organized the page into folders, removed some natter and cleaned up the entries. But looking over the result, I'm likewise baffled by what this trope actually is. At first I figured it's a Christmas Episode, but that's already a trope, so this seems like a snarky, Status Quo Is God take on it. I don't know if that really counts as its own trope, but we'll see...
