Pink Bishoujo Ghetto Discussion
Lale: What exactly is the trope here? "Bishoujo series' casts are drastically off-balance in favor of girls?"

Rabbit: '...in favor of young cute girls, even in settings where this makes absolutely no sense,' I believe. An anime set in an all-girl's high school, or centering around an all-girl's club, wouldn't use this trope, for example.

Dentaku: The picture is quite wide. Perhaps we can try to find something better?

Servbot: Shrunk it down to site standards (250 pix). How's that?

Dentaku: Better, but not it's so small that you can hardly make out the gender of the depicted characters anymore.

Servbot: Changed it again to a compromise between the old size and new size (350 pix)

C Banana: Whoops, I changed it again without reading how many times this picture has already been changed. Well, hopefully you folks like the new picture.

SamCurt: I wonder if this trope refers to any plot device that maintains a mainly female cast, except girls-only school? Like co-ed schools with a gender imbalance problem, or female-only apartments?

C Banana: The trope examples would indicate that the trope includes any series where there's a disproportionate amount of females compared to a regular context (including even all girls' schools where it looks like men don't exist in the universe). We either have to modify this trope or delete many examples. I'm actually in favour of the former within reason as it suits the title of the trope better and helps differentiate it from Amazon Brigade.

Nornagest: The picture quote is brilliant. Just sayin'.

  • They come from a magical mirror. The mommy pony looks inside and poof, out comes baby pony. Seriously.
Tragic T Dragon: This Pony collecting troper needs to see your evidence. (Yes, she's basically asking for a citation.)

Kalle: Exactly where in Touhou does it say that some of the girls have boyfriends? o_o;

C Banana: Hmmm... It is kind of suspicious that none of the characters' supposed boyfriends are allowed to show up at any of the parties that get thrown in the games.

Okenido: I suggest we remove the line unless proof is given, as I also find it suspicious that such a thing never came up in any official works of Touhou.

Twin Bird: I'm going to say Cheer! doesn't fit since it's about girls (well...basically) at an ordinary high school, so of course the cast will be mostly female. It's not like men don't show up where you'd expect them, either; Lita's friends outside the squad, for instance, are mostly male.
