Swish: Question, does Wouldnt Hurt A Child apply as a subversion to Lost with the latest episode (He's our You)? I can't really tell if it's a subversion or just an averted trope. I haven't seen any other real instances of the show showing children getting hurt, in fact, the show seems to go to great lengths to declare people wouldn't do that because they're not monsters. Anyone have any input on this? Diddgery: I'm going to have to say it's an aversion because I'm sure I'm not the only person who had a feeling that Sayid was going to do that, especially after he said "I know what I'm supposed to do here." And to him, he's not killing an innocent, he's killing the man that potentially orchestrated the DHARMA genocide and made Sayid into his own personal assassin. ccoa: Isn't it implied that most of the children of the Dharma Initiative died with them? I know it isn't shown onscreen, but children lived in the complex, the complex was gassed, so 2+2=... Diddgery: That is true, but the children are innocent, and we know at least one of them was taken into the Hostiles (Ethan). It's likely that a large portion of the Others were made up of children taken from the DHARMA Initiative after the Purge. ccoa: Removed this:
Split the Abusive parents, but its now a very big example... and its still not covering all the parental abuse of the series... I'll leave it for now, but if someone has a better idea on how to handle that, go for it. Diddgery: I think it might just be best to say "in spades" and leave it at that. If elaboration is really necessary, a link to Lostpedia's page on parent issues  should suffice, to avoid unnecessary clutter.
Alright, I think that the abusive parents thing has gone out of control at this point. And half the examples aren't even of abusive parents. So, cutting all the examples and linking to the lostpedia page. Sorry guys, I hate cutting stuff but its gone out of control. If anyone objects we can discuss it here.

The last time something like this happened, we wound up with Desmond running naked through the jungle. And it's already been established that Word Of God can not be trusted. Diddgery: As far as we know, they could all be dead. Remember, Richard said that he watched them die. It's best to just leave it alone for the time being. Swish: For this reason, "leaving it alone" should mean that unless one includes all those present at the Incident, one shouldn't include any when claiming them dead. That or wait until Season 6 starts before doing anything in that respect. Thus the reason for my removing the recent addition to Heroic Sacrifice. —- Double D: I disagree with the edit made about the Hitler Time Travel Exemption Act. The scene was set up so the casual viewer would question whether Sayid succeeded or not so he DID 'seemingly' kill Ben thus the original statement was accurate in explaining how the trope is played with. ...or I just over analyse Lost |
