Long Lost Uncle Aesop Discussion
Seth: I think this trope is being buried by its title, do people think a more descriptive name is needed?

BT The P: Some of the examples don't fit the entry anymore. For the textual definition, as in the guy brought in to be punished for his own vices in place of the main cast, I like Plot Whipping Boy, after the poor kids who were punished in place of nobles' offspring to teach them a lesson. The other meaning that's kind of snuck in, the character that should by all logic appear regularly, but doesn't, like a close relative or friend who still lives in town. Maybe My Brother The Ninja?

osh: Aesop Red Shirt ?

Zeke: I agree, this has become two articles. The "important character who's never been mentioned" version also has a companion trope where we find out a character has some skill, talent, or hobby that should have come up before; however, that's probably covered by You Didnt Ask.

This trope page's name is under discussion here with a crowner for Alternative Titles. Your considered opinions would be appreciated. Thank you for your contributions and have a nice day.

Some Sort Of Troper: Trope renamed from Uncle Ned to Long Lost Uncle Aesop.
