Crystal Dragon Satan, develops magical powers... all things that are deemphasized in the heroic fantasy genre. I wouldn't be surprised if a few
Heroic Fantasy elements were still floating around, though;
Robert Jordan got his start writing Conan sequels, after all.
Puffy Treat: Wouldn't it be more accurate if the article said that Sword & Sorcery influenced D&D, rather than the other way around? Most of the trope-defining S&S stories predate D&D by some years.
The Inheritance Cycle is really more high fantasy, isn't it?
