Seth: Pulled from the middle of Avatar The Last Airbender Discussion

"Ununnilium:Also, the "Finishing Move subversion" needs to be its own trope; I've seen it all the time."

Seth: I agree that we should have the Finishing Move subversion trope as well, loads of stories have it just to show how heroic the lead is by not having him finish someone off. *Kicks off discussion*

Drow Lord: But is that really a subversion? It seems more like that one trope of Heroic Mercy, or something ("I'm so heroic that I'm not going to kill you, even if this move makes me perfectly capable of doing so"). I thought a subversion would be more along the lines of a Finishing Move turning out to be absolutely worthless (Hercule in DBZ comes to mind).

Some Sort Of Troper: Indeed, one would have to be subverting the nature of the move not its presence. Besides the common idea mentioned above isn't about avoiding a Finishing Move, it's about avoiding the straw that would break the camel's back.

HeartBurn Kid: Removed the "Western" part from the Professional Wrestling listing—it's common in any pro wrestling, not just western. In fact, most of the really flashy moves come out of Japanese puroresu—either that, or from Mexican lucha libre.

Raekuul: I'm just going to leave this here:
