Working Title: Crazy Awesome: From YKTTW
Janitor: Yes, this may indeed be the Ultimate Subjective Article. Settling in now for five or so years of point/counterpoint. Luckily, we do have the Subjective banner. Twin Bird: Am I the only one who thinks works as examples should be cut with extreme prejudice? This is starting to look like the poor man's you-know-what. Cukeman: Alternatively, it could be cut altogether; upon reflection, this realy wasn't a great idea.. The Pein: I think it would be a good idea to just cut it. After my Captain Obvious Idiot Ball-moment earlier when I tried to "define" this trope, I came to accept that there's nothing this trope really defines that isn't covered by Bunny Ears Lawyer or Cloud Cuckoolander already. This is just like the Magnificent Bastard trope - it just tries to list the best and most notable of their respective "subtropes". Even though That Other Wiki-strictness isn't exactly characteristic for Tv Tropes, this kind of trope is the one we need to get rid of simply because it - like I did earlier on - restates something that's already established and tries to make it sound better. Cukeman: Yeah pretty much, except it's more like an idiot just wants to feel important by coming up with a cool trope. But methinks I'll just stick to character pages and obscure webcomics. Now how does one cutlist a trope...? Red Viking: I think it should be kept. Bunny Ears Lawyer is someone with an obvious weird quirk who is tolerated because he/she is good at what he/she does and a Cloud Cuckoolander is someone who is not all there. That, in of itself, does not automatically make these characters awesome. Crazy Awesome is when those weird quirks do make these characters awesome. I just think it should be cleared up some more because I always thought that was the case. Twin Bird: ...maybe. I honestly think there's something to a character whose insanity, rather than his or her more standard traits alongside insanity, serves to make him or her a powerful force in the plot. But since there don't seem to be any challenges to cutting works, I'm just going to go ahead and do that for now. Madrugada: I agree with Red Viking. This one needs to be kept. It is different from both Cloud Cuckoo Lander and Bunny Ears Lawyer. However, the examples do need to be pruned ruthlessly by people familiar with the works. Too many sound like they're crazy or awesome, but not Crazy Awesome according to the definition. And I think the definition is quite clear. NightraidThis one most certainly needs to be kept. And i agree that some pruning may be neccesary, but lets try not to overdo it. Janitor: Request no examples, perhaps? It's a maintenance nightmare as stated, else. Some Sort Of Troper: Pssh! What is a trope page without examples when only by existing within examples can a trope be said to exist. If you want people to stick to the apparently fairly clear definition then put down some examples that show it off. Make them really precise and exemplary and burn all the rest if needs be but show us that the trope actually exists if you're going to keep the page around. Janitor: I guess. As long as it isn't me. Twin Bird: Maybe this shouldn't be listed as subjective? And the image should probably be changed... SpiriTsunami: Since I can't seem to see the page history, I have to ask: Was this written before or after the page image was changed to being from a movie that, correct me if I'm wrong, has only been out for a little over a week? |
