Caswin: Removing the following entry (and, by necessity, its amusing follow-up) on the following grounds: First, Rule Of Cautious Editing Judgment. Second, I can honestly say that, buffoonish or not, I've seen his speeches and can attest that he (or whoever writes his speeches) is not stupid enough to make "the Middle East is evil" the heart, let alone the breadth, of his argument.
This article could use some references to philosophers. Specifically the Chinese philosopher Mencius, who comes right out and says that he doesn't like arguing, and basically just tries to shut his opponents up. Caswin: I deleted a line universally declaring debate to be about who makes the better impression, not who's right or wrong. I can personally attest that that isn't the case. However, I have to ask about silence equaling consent being not only commonly (not to say accurately) recognized, but a "basic concept of Argumentation and Debate". What's that about? |
