oh my god how did this get here i am not good with computer Oh my God we need to divide this into Author by Genre in order for it to make sense - Iluvtvtropes.
- Winter: If we do split by genre, I would recommend only doing that for nineteenth and twentieth century authors. While genres did exist before that point, they were defined very differently; e.g., epic vs lyric poetry with different subject matter and meters. And the pre-19th century section of the list is not nearly as long as the 20th century section.

Winter: Any ideas for a better system for organizing authors before the 20th Century? I don't think 'Classics' and 'Pre-Twentieth-Century' is really adequate.. Let's have 'Classics' cut off with approximately the fifth century AD, the fall of the Roman Empire. Then go to Middle Ages until about the 13th century. From there we organize authors by century.
Madrugada: I've put the Medieval and Renaissance authors in chronological order. I'd suggest that we split "20th and 21st" into Pre-WWII and Post-WWII sections. For one thing, it's a huge section right now, and for another, WWII did mark a point where there was a definite loss of optimism, if not innocence, in quite a few genres.
