Elie's Story is about a melancholy, inhuman girl in a godless and steadily dying land.
Twenty years after losing its god, the archipelago of Amara is a land of ruins. Forests and countryside are steadily being engulfed by a strange and unearthly magical phenomenon known as Mist. Its people are emotionally and ideologically lost, and the infrastructure of society is steadily breaking down. To make matters worse, the surge in ambient magic makes conditions perfect for the spawning of anthropomorphic spirits known as Riftlings whose character is greatly influenced by the events surrounding their birth. Considering the desperate straits Amara is in, this is generally not a good thing, and they are feared and hated by a significant portion of the population.
Among these Riftlings is Elie, an amnesiac who claws her way out of the Mist and takes shelter with John, a local doctor. Although she has no idea of who she is, other Riftlings clearly do- and they want her in their camp, a
large, darkly utopian affair known as the Church of Blades. Elie's own attempts to rediscover her identity may well tell her things about herself she has no desire to know...

Examples of tropes within
Elie's Story:
- Action Girl (Lots; so far almost every female character has appeared is quite capable of handling herself.)
- After the End (Amara is a mess.)
- Armor Is Useless (Averted thus far.)
- Blood Knight (Elie's blood-crazed state turns her into this, to the point where she doesn't even notice that she's killing people.)
- Broken Bird (One possible interpretation of Elie; trouble is, she's not quite sure what the traumatic event was.)
- Dual Wielding (Elie uses two swords.)
- Empathic Weapon (Riftling weapons and possessions are apparently projections of their self-perception and are essentially part of them.)
- Energy Being (One way to see Riftlings, who are non-biological entities but have a semblance of human form.)
- Have You Seen My God? (Averted; everyone knew their God existed as part of Heavenfall, and this, combined with God's death immediately afterwards, is responsible for most of the despair throughout Amara.)
- Improbable Weapon User (Aesee uses razored puppet strings; Necis uses a scythe.)
- Mad Scientist (Alexander is a mad sorcerer, but otherwise similar. He's actually fairly benign, though, just weird.)
- Path of Inspiration (The Church of Blades may be this.)
- Sinister Scythe (Necis)
- Sword Fight
- Stalker with a Crush (Keres' crush on Elie is based almost entirely on stories he's heard about her, and he tries his best to manipulate events and make a good impression.)
- Warrior Poet (The Bladesman interpretation of combat is much more philosophical than that of normal people.)
