Lets Play: Super Mario Sunshine Versus
Tyler: Hey everybody and welcome back to Super Mario Sunshine Versus! I'm AttackingTucans!
Josh: And I'm Josh Jepson.
Tyler: And this time, we're gonna get our vaginas pierced!

Super Mario Sunshine Versus (aka, "Project Stingray") is a competitive, co-commentary LP of Super Mario Sunshine between JoshJepson and AttackingTucans. The two race through the game to collect all the Shine Sprites and Blue Coins as a 100% run. All the while they play word games with each other, with Tyler (Tucans) making off-color jokes and Josh taking it all in stride. Viewers are invited to play along and post their experience on Youtube. For both the two and the viewers, segments have to be no longer than a half hour. However, for a few episodes, they have went over by a few minutes, and they allowed their viewers to go over as well.

In the end, the winner of the series, by about five minutes, was JoshJepson* It was determined that the loser had to cover themselves in different liquids that are the same color as the various goo colors in the game's levels, then drink a sample of all of them mixed together.

Tropes Used In This Work:

  • A God Am I: Josh jokingly states that he and Tyler are gods for finishing a 100% file each in 22 videos without being able to practice or start over.
  • A Good Name for a Rock Band: The Throbbing Masses.
  • The Ace: Josh, by virtue of having completed the game 100% multiple times in the past, generally does better at things in the race than Tucans does.
  • Ass Shove: In Tyler's story, Josh puts dandelions there.
  • Atomic F-Bomb: Josh lets one out in episode 4 when, after getting all 8 red coins in the Blooper Surfing Safari, he jumps past the shine and hits a log, killing him instantly.
  • Bad Liar: Josh claims Tyler is this and he can easily tell when the latter is lying. Subverted, as Tyler is frequently able to trick Josh into believing he is at a bigger disadvantage than he really is.
    • They both sometimes invoke this by claiming something, followed by "Or I might be lying".
  • Berserk Button: He laughed at first, but Josh seemed to really not appreciate Tyler joking about his grandma.
  • Big "NO!": Tucans lets one out whenever he has an Epic Fail.
  • Big "YES!": Like in his own videos, Josh repeats one of these whenever he feels truly accomplished.
  • Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick: Frequently.
  • Brick Joke: In one episode, Tyler deduces that there is Pianta porn somewhere online. In a different episode, he starts going on an angry rant and mentions it again. See Despair Event Horizon below.
  • Butt Monkey: Both of them get hit with this, but Josh takes a lot of jokes and accusations from Tyler.
    • Lucahjin is made fun of on many occasions. Does not count as a Take That, they're all friends.
  • Call Back: It's not uncommon for Tyler to make a reference to a Running Gag from a previous video.
  • Camp Straight: Tyler.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Tyler especially, but both qualify depending on the situation.
  • Cluster F-Bomb: Even ignoring all the swear words, just count every time that Tyler says "vagina" or "boner". Though Josh also does his share.
  • Country Matters
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: They both have their moments of awesome, despite their usual failures.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Tucans parodies this when he starts having excessive amounts of trouble in a certain level. Doubles as a Call Back to two previous jokes.
"I hate this project! I hate you! I hate Piantas! I hate their porn! I hate Vagisil! I hate Jesus Grandma! I hate... eating old men!"
  • Dissonant Serenity: During the middle of Tyler going through the losers' punishment, the background music suddenly changes from a techno mix to the peaceful Ordon Village theme.
  • Distant Finale: Some regular videos suffered from Schedule Slip, though the finale was on schedule. The ending video meant to wrap up loose ends on the project as a whole, however, came out after a few months.
  • Dork Horse Candidate: One camp of fans is on "Team Chuggaaconroy", thinking he will win, despite not being involved in the race at all.
  • Dude, Not Funny!/Nightmare Fuel: In-Universe, Tyler tells what he believes to be a funny story to Josh about these dogs attacking another dog, with the one dog making a screeching noise (which Tyler could imitate). Instead of laughing, Josh was horrified.
  • El Spanish O: Tyler decides that the Spanish version of one-hundred is "El One-Hundred O".
  • Epic Fail: At least one per episode.
  • Evasive Fight Thread Episode: While each episode ends with one ahead of the other, they're always pretty close and the situation can turn around within minutes of a single episode.
    • Even when one of them won in the end, it was close.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: In one episode, the commentary had to be muted for a few moments due to content. Given what the two talk about on a regular basis, that's saying something.
  • Foregone Conclusion: Josh was ahead by a lot in the penultimate episode, it wasn't really much of a surprise when he won, though it was pretty close.
  • Genre Popularizer: Of the Splitscreen versus genre subtype of Let's Play, which were present but really starting springing up after the project finished.
  • Ha Ha Ha No: Josh does this a couple of times during their game of 20 Questions.
  • Heroic BSOD: Tyler has a short one when he thinks he's trapped himself in an inescapable part of the level after going there before getting all of the red coins, thinking he did.
    • Josh also has a short one when he glitches and ends up below the level. He has an even bigger one much earlier, when he loses the bananas Mario was supposed to deliver, on the inside of a vat.
  • Hotter and Sexier: What Josh's sentences are once he changes a word when playing the 'Bop' game.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Tyler calls Josh out on cursing once or twice.
  • I Am A Humanitarian: Josh apparently eats old men.
  • Immodest Orgasm: Tyler tries to make this kind of sound on occasion.
  • Large Ham: Both of them.
  • Last Lousy Point: In Episode 18, Tyler collects all 100 Coins in Pianta Village...and then jumps over the Shine and falls off the level.
  • Man Child: Tucans.
  • Memetic Molester: In-Universe, Josh's feelings toward Tyler Perry.
  • Mind Screw: Episode 19 is this for both Josh and Tyler, thanks to each other.
  • Musical Episode: Episode 17 was apparently going to be this, but they ended up not going with that.
  • N-Word Privileges: Subverted. During their alphabet playing episode, Josh had the letter N. After thinking of it for a bit, Josh says "I can't say my N-word"
    • This is brought up and referenced again in the ending video.
  • Oh Crap: They commonly do this right before screwing something up, or realizing they screwed it up.
  • Once an Episode: Josh tells Tucans at one point that it seems like every episode starts with the latter making a reference to vaginas.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Zig-zagged with Tyler/Tucans; Josh calls him by his real name, but he refers to himself by his username.
  • OOC Is Serious Business: Both of them are usually cheerful and upbeat, only occasionally faking being angry or upset for laughs. However:
    • After failing so much at the Sandbird level, Josh becomes sincerely angry and begins yelling angrily.
    • Similarly, after Tyler dies just before getting the Shine Sprite in an eight red coins level he had trouble with, he actually breaks down crying temporarily.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Tyler and Josh, respectively. Sometimes Josh will also go red, but you can count on Tyler never being blue.
  • Rule 34: Tyler squicks himself out when he realizes that this applies to Piantas.
  • Running Gag: Tyler asking Josh if he wants any Vagisil.
    • The "bop" game.
  • Sadist Show
  • Schedule Slip: A few times.
  • Shaped Like Itself: Josh and Tyler play a game where they make a sentence and take turns adding a word, and then they ended up making:
  • Shout Out: JoshJepson makes one to Electrical Beast, thinking that the latter knew that Shine Sprites had power over time.
  • Sir Swearsalot: Josh is a straight example. Tyler is an exaggerated example.
  • Smurfing: Chuggaaconroy and Lucahjin have both of their user names used as swear words at different points.
  • Straight Man: Josh is the more normal of the two.
  • Tempting Fate: A rare example where it turned out good for the person speaking: Josh says in the first episode not to "be on his team" since he fails so much. He ends up winning the series.
  • Toilet Humor: It was gonna happen sooner or later. Tyler tells a (fiction) story about Josh putting dandelions up his butt because he didn't wipe.
  • Trailers Always Spoil: The thumbnail for the last part shows a screen from after the winner has already finished. It shows a shot of Josh in the ending FMV next to Tyler playing Corona Mountain
  • Trainwreck Episode: In Episode 3, Josh's internet connection dies momentarily, and then both of their parents each separately interrupt them.
  • What Do You Mean, It\'s Not Heinous?: Having the game's audio play for both players instead of whichever one is in the lead.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not Symbolic?: Just as Josh beat Bowser, Tyler on his half of the screen lost a life in Corona Mountain.
  • Wild Mass Guessing: Tyler jokes that ProtonJon rarely updates because he has a serious STD.
  • Your Mom: Verbatim, one of the rankings of complaining that Josh achieves on Tyler's Complaint Counter for Josh.
