Hello, everybody! This page is about InTheLittleWood, also known as Martyn. InTheLittleWood is a creator of YouTube videos that joined the Yogscast in August 2012. He is mostly known for his Minecraft and The Legend of Zelda videos. He became known through his music video "Form This Way", and often played co-op with So Totally Toby and other members of the Yogscast.

He is a member of the Life SMP and has played in all five seasons thus far, and is the head writer of the "Eyes and Ears" continuity, based on his own interpretation of the series. For tropes about his character, see here.

After becoming a Virtual YouTuber in 2022, Martyn has been engaged in writing his "V-Tuber lore", where his character has been recruited by a friend, Doc, as the "Datastream Defender" to destroy L.O.O.T. Shards across the datastream worlds in a secret war against the corporation C.H.E.S.T. The Life SMP "Eyes and Ears" lore is known to be connected to this storyline, but how exactly is currently undisclosed. For how he portrays himself in each series, see the works' individual character sub-pages. A brief summary of his plotline can be found here.

His main channel can be found here, while his Minecraft channel can be found here.

Tropes that apply to InTheLittleWood:

  • Berserk Button: Do NOT touch his Lapis Lazuli. Or even say anything bad about it.
  • Blatant Lies: After accidentally giving himself away as the murderer in Murder (by mentioning he could see footprints, something only the murderer can do), Martyn tries backtracking by saying that since he was the murderer in a previous round he can't be againnote .
  • *Bleep*-dammit!: In some playthroughs such as the Zelda series, he's rather on-and-off when it comes to swearing. Sometimes he'll perform a Last-Second Word Swap (mostly "Sugar") in order to avoid swearingnote  but will then deliberately add profanity to the in-game dialogue in the same episode.
  • Butt-Monkey: He became this when he joined the Yogs for Murder, where his naive nature got him killed quite a few times and made him the butt of most of the jokes.
  • The Cameo: He appears in Area 11's "Monopoly" video, delivering a spoof of a Do Not Try This at Home PSA about eating Monopoly houses.
  • Call-Back: During the battle with the Underpants Warlock in South Park: The Stick of Truth, he speaks in a suave voice to the sexophone playing in the background. When the song is used again in South Park: The Fractured but Whole during the battle against Fathers Handsley and McManus, he does the same thing, up to and including starting both scenes off with "Oh yeahhhhh…"
  • Crossover:
    • Before joining the Yogscast himself, his "Form This Way" parody went up on Simon Lane and Lewis Brindley's channel.
    • Along with the other Yogs members, Martyn has played alongside PewDiePie, Minx, Cinnamon Toast Ken and SeaNanners.
    • He also regularly collaborates with Nerd³ and So Totally Toby, having an ongoing series with the former and just recording with the latter all the time.
    • Dan Bull recorded a rap that went up on Martyn's channel.
    • Before they officially joined the Yogscast, Hat Films joined him and Sparkles* for a night of Halo 4, as part of a charity livestream.
  • Epic Fail: Martyn cannot shoot during Garry's Mod, and seemingly lacks peripheral vision, allowing a murderer an easy win. While he's relatively new compared to the others, there was no excusing that mistake.
Simon: Martyn, you are the worst.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: Is this in the High Rollers campaign; he plays Falk, a half-orc botanist that appears in Episodes 8 and 9.
  • Naïve Newcomer: When he joined the second Yogscast season of Murder, he was the only one not to have played it. While he has played games like Prop Hunt and Trouble in Terrorist Town, he still struggled to keep up. He eventually got better.
  • "No. Just… No" Reaction:
    • His reaction to "Elsa's Baby Birth", when he sees Elsa breastfeeding a baby, although this was more about the game moving from the source material's more PG content.
    • One of his Super Mario Maker videos is titled with a variant of this: "Why!? Just... why?"
  • Older Than They Look: His face and personality makes him seem like he's around 20, but he's actually about as old as most other members of the Yogscast.
  • Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: He is capable of imitating a number of accents, but not always for very long.
  • Pungeon Master: Expect him to make at least one pun in every series he's in, if not outright unleash a Hurricane of Puns, to the point he's designated as "the Pun Master" rat on the Rats SMP.
  • Running Gag:
    • Martyn has a habit of never picking up his crafting tables.
    • Martyn's love of lapis lazuli.
  • Saying Too Much: In Murder, he accidentally gives away the fact he's the murderer by mentioning that he can see footprints, then tries to backtrack with Blatant Lies.
  • Squee: Whenever he sees something cute or cool he tends to squee in a high pitched voice.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: How one episode of Tekkit goes, thanks to some stolen TNT and some inspiring fanart.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: When it comes to cosplaying, he enjoys dressing up as female anime characters, like Sailor Moon or Anya Forger.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness:
    • In the Yogscast PvP Survival Games match, Martyn and Toby are the last team standing when Ridge announces that only one of them is allowed to win. Toby immediately protests this, saying he would never kill his partner. Martyn, on the other hand, doesn't even hesitate before shooting Toby in the face.
    • And even earlier in said PvP, when Simon Lane is looking for a new partner after Lewis Brindley dies, Martyn jumps right in, asking what he's looking for. Toby objects.

Tropes that apply to his greater V-Tuber lore:

  • Character Overlap: Across all the worlds he travels to as the Datastream Defender, he stays fundamentally the same character.
  • Dimensional Traveler: Is tasked with being a guardian for game-worlds connected with the Datastream, hopping between them, one world at a time, to destroy L.O.O.T. Shards.
  • The Needless: According to invokedWord of God, being a Dimensional Traveler, Martyn "doesn't need nutrition or sleep as he's currently not flesh and bone", but tries to act like everyone else to blend in and maintain a human sense of self.
  • Physical Scars, Psychological Scars: Starting from the end of the Limited Life SMP, Martyn has been often depicted with a scar shaped like a four-pointed star on his right cheek, even in non-Life series media like the Pirates SMP. In the post-Limited Life "Eyes and Ears" lore stream, he explains that the scar is a physical manifestation of the Fragment left in his soul in the aftermath of 3rd Life SMP (in which he lost and died; only winners do not receive Fragments).
