Films

  • Luke and Han have a few longing stares in A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back.
  • Billy Dee Williams's half-serious answer as to why Lando was wearing some of Han's duds in Return of the Jedi was that he figured Han and Lando were fooling around in the back of the Falcon, and that Lando just put on what was handy.
  • Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan and Obi-Wan/Anakin are both popular. Say what you will: George has figured out how to take Ho Yay out of the level of Fanservice for the ladies and some men and actually have it be meaningful, such as Obi-Wan's "I loved you," which was a response to Anakin's bitter "I hate you!" for being left by him to burn near a river of lava. Both of them feeling betrayed by the other. Deborah Chow, the director of the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV show, cited the "love-story dynamic" Obi-Wan and Anakin shared in the movies as a reason she felt the need to include both of them in the show.
  • There's quite a bit between C-3PO and R2-D2 as well, with the theory of the two being closet homosexuals being very popular for a long time.
  • Poe and Finn, to the degree that even mainstream media articles exploring whether Star Wars will have a canon LGBTQ character often use the picture of Finn rescuing Poe from the Finalizer as the article image.
    • In The Force Awakens, the Resistance X-Wing pilot and Stormtrooper defector bond almost immediately, with Poe even giving Finn his name (he had previously been called just FN-2187).
    • After the TIE fighter they were escaping in gets shot down and crashes, their ejection seats land in different places. Finn believes Poe is dead, and vice versa. When they reunite, it is with a mutual Glomp and both look ecstatic to see each other alive and well. Finn had also been wearing Poe's jacket, the only thing he recovered from the wreckage. When he tries to return it, Poe tells him to keep it (after giving him a lip-bitten smoldering look), saying it looks good on him.
    • This goes on outside the film, as is revealed that some writers of the show actually do ship them together. Oscar Isaac, the actor who played Poe, has already stated that he believes that Poe does indeed have feelings for Finn, and some of the Ho Yay of the plot, is due to the fact that he acted as such.
    • In The Last Jedi, after Poe is blown back by the attack on the Raddus hangar, Finn rushes to his side and borderline cradles him protectively. Some fans also noticed, during the critical scene when the Resistance fighters escape through the caves, a moment in which they could very well be holding hands just off-camera.
    • The Rise of Skywalker shows no sign of slowing down. A Running Gag is Finn trying to pull Rey aside and tell her something important (Word of God says he's trying to tell Rey he suspects he's Force Sensitive), but Poe's reaction is to get huffy and borderline jealous that Finn wants to talk to her alone and can't just say it in front of both of them.
  • Gun-toting mercenary Baze and blind stave-master Chirrut in Rogue One are very close. When Baze wishes Chirrut luck, Chirrut's reply is "I don't need luck; I have you." When Chirrut dies near the end, it's in Baze's arms, while Baze implores him to be all right. Baze subsequently recites Chirrut's mantra and slaughters the entire squad of Death Troopers in seconds; when the last one dies clutching an armed grenade, Baze looks back at Chirrut's corpse as it explodes.
  • Solo has a scene where Chewbacca joins Han in a very cramped shower. At the very least, they've come to be very comfortable with each other, very quickly.

Animated series

  • Darth Maul's psychotic obsession with (revenge on) Obi-Wan in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Darth Maul: You may have forgotten me, but I will never forget you!
  • In Star Wars: The Clone Wars, season two introduces Barriss Offee, a padawan for Jedi Master Luminara Unduli. She and Ahsoka are sent on a dangerous mission together and, as is usual for action/adventure shows, bond in combat. The episode ends with them as good friends, but without anything that can truly be classified as homosexual subext, just close friendship. Then, in "Brain Invaders" they talk some more, bond some more...and the Les Yay goes through the roof. Ahsoka is personally hurt when Barriss attempts to kill her, despite the mind-controlling worms behind the event and the cool aplomb she took the previous betrayal of several clones who she called her friends; she can not bring herself to kill Barriss, despite Barriss's fervent pleas to do so, and despite not having any compunction against killing clone troopers earlier; then, when Ahsoka finally manages to subdue Barriss, she cradles her in her arms and holds her unconscious body until she passes out as well and lies with her. When the two are rescued and brought aboard a space station to recover, Ahsoka's first words upon waking up are to ask about Barriss.
  • To some fans of Star Wars Rebels, the Grand Inquisitor's behavior of being seemingly polite and touchy (especially at the beginning of "Fire Across the Galaxy", where he gets rather close to Kanan while taunting him) towards Kanan was seen as this.
  • Despite Sabine saying they used to be like sisters, her and Ketsu's interactions in the Rebels episode "Blood Sisters" seem to come off as less sibling-casual and more (ex-)girlfriend-casual. Continues in "The Forgotten Droid", where Ketsu only joins the Rebel fleet battle after Sabine panics on the comm.
  • The Rebels episode "The Honorable Ones" completely flipped the relationship of Zeb and Kallus from being archenemies to an ambiguous friendship at the least, but with scenes like Kallus gently chuckling at Zeb's misfortune, opening up to him about his past, the Sleep Cute, etc., it can come off as UST. Not to mention that this incident ended up inspiring Kallus' Heel–Face Turn, leading him to become the new Fulcrum before defecting to the rebels for good and joining them at the end of Season 3. After years of blindly following Imperial orders, all it took was a little kindness and respect from Zeb to turn Kallus around.
    • It does/doesn't help that Steve Blum, Zeb's voice actor, has made comments encouraging the pairing, like saying that in Season 4: "Well, hopefully Zeb will head to Lira San and start a family with Kallus." REALLY doesn't help that as of the finale, they really do go live together on Lira San!
    • In the series finale, Zeb reveals to Kallus that he didn't genocide his people to extinction after all... by covering his eyes all the way to Lira San and then revealing it as a surprise. It's a very newlywed kind of gesture.
  • Chopper and AP-5, two robots with masculine programming, manage this. Chopper, who has a very difficult time caring about anyone, considers AP-5 a friend, saves him from slavery, rampages when AP-5 is hurt, and they hold hands when it looks like AP-5 is going to die. They also bicker Like an Old Married Couple.

Live-Action Series

  • The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett boast some flirtatious-sounding interactions between Din Djarin and Cobb Vanth.
    • Out of context, Din's demand for Cobb to give him Boba's armor brings the intro of a gay porno to mind, especially with Pedro Pascal delivering Din's lines in a voice he's admitted sounds "strangely like a bedroom voice?":
Din: Take it off. Or I will.
Cobb: We gonna do this in front of the kid?
      Din: He's seen worse.
    • Pedro Pascal implied that he also ships "Dincobb" by sharing a romantic drawing in a Valentine's Day 2022 Instagram story.
  • Some viewers have romanticized Migs Mayfeld's apparent obsession with Din's eyes, introduced while he unsuccessfully demands to see Din's unmasked face en route to the prison raid. When the two of them later go undercover to locate Moff Gideon's light cruiser, Mayfeld improvises "Brown Eyes" as an alias for helmet-less Din.
  • Drash's admiring smile after Fennec Shand saves her life and Fennec's flirty-sounding response can feel like the beginning of a Rescue Romance.
    Drash: Thank you.
Fennec: Manners! I like that. You're welcome. [rides off]
  • Drash also has some sparks with Jo, a young woman from Freetown - their interaction seems like a more succinct reprise of Din Djarin and Vanth's relationship, complete with flirtatious undertones.
  • Bo-Katan/The Armorer got popular after the scene in The Mandalorian Chapter 21: "The Pirate" where the Armorer commands Bo-Katan to remove her helmet. For Children of the Watch, it's like being told to take off a piece of clothing.

Literature:

  • Thrawn: In keeping with tradition of the now defunct Legends canon — Eli serves as the point of view protagonist that is eventually blown away by Thrawn's Sherlock Scan and intellect. Thrawn is just as fascinated in Eli despite the latter's guarded reception of the former. These moments are clear such as when Thrawn is upset at the prospect that Eli doesn't like him, excitedly and even awkwardly introduces himself to Eli's parents, and in a Heartwarming Moment leaves Eli a thoughtful note in his own personal journals that recognizes what a close friend he had been over the years. For a stoic and guarded character such as Thrawn the gesture isn't lost on the audience.
