The day Roger Ebert died, the Critic broke his usual schedule and posted a tribute. It's poignant.
One for him and someone else: while he was in hospital due to his cancer, he received a bouquet of flowers signed from "Your least favourite actor, Rob Schneider". Ebert was genuinely touched by the gesture, stating that while he considers Schneider a terrible actor, he doesn't consider him a bad person. He then expresses a hope that Schneider might one day make a movie he will enjoy. Considering how scathing Ebert is of the man, this is a deeply moving comment.
There was also this tribute from Chicago Tribune cartoonist Scott Stantis.
A reader once wrote in to chide him for writing that Aishwarya Rai was the number one most beautiful woman in the world, saying that surely Roger should have been savvy enough to give that honor to his wife Chaz. Ebert replied, "The question was about women, not goddesses."
