Book Version

  • Mandy is always by Ella's side, giving her Tonic and the magic book, and showing how a true fairy godmother should be. Ella notes that Mandy could have left the Frells at any time but was loyal to the Frell daughter.
  • Char fell in love with Ella when she was having a human moment of vulnerability: crying at her mother's funeral. It shows the emphasis on Just the Way You Are.
  • Whether or not Lucinda earned Ella's forgiveness is up to the reader, but she does make a strong effort after her Heel Realization. She says she can't remove Ella's curse but promises to help her and orders Ella to summon her if she ever needs assistance.
  • Despite the fact that Olive annoys him for many reasons, Char graciously dances with her a few times at the ball. He also to no avail tries to tell her that money isn't everything and being royalty doesn't mean you can tax everyone's earnings.
  • The entire ending really, but Olive's marriage might slip under the radar. Olive is the only member of the step-family who is more Innocently Insensitive than malicious, her family treats her almost as dismissively as they do Ella, and she legitimately doesn't seem to understand the extent to which she's taking advantage of Ella by stealing her money. Olive ultimately marries a widower who is willing to give her all the attention and mild coddling she wants or needs and he's able to love her for her simple devoted attention — essentially, she gets her own version of a happy ending. It helps that he pays her 20 KJs a day for her to hoard.
