Heartwarming / David Copperfield

• Barkis and Peggotty's romance; both of very simple, earthly characters but they have one of the most enduring partnerships in the play.
  • Similarly, albeit a few classes up, Tommy and Sophy Traddles. From a cynical, worldly standpoint they're laughably naiive, but they're happy, and remain contentedly down-to-earth even as Traddles' talents catapult them to the highest levels of society.
• After David flees to Aunt Betsey Trotwood's home, Mr. Murdstone and his sister come to take him back, and when Betsey stands in their way they warn him of his 'bad character'. Betsey asks Mr. Dick his opinion, and when he recommends David be fitted for a new set of clothes directly, Betsey tells the Murdstones "I'll take my chances with the boy."
• After the child Davy is locked in his room for five days by the Murdstones, he is thrilled when Peggotty (who had not been able to see him as frequently since their arrival) sneaks over to talk to him through the door. Especially sweet is her blowing kisses into the keyhole because she can't reach him and Davy touches it back like he would her face.
  • Later, as Davy is sent away to school, he gets a lovely surprise when Peggotty bids him goodbye.
  To my amazement, Peggotty burst from a hedge and climbed into the cart. She took me in both her arms, and squeezed me to her stays until the pressure on my nose was extremely painful, though I never thought of that till afterwards when I found it very tender. Not a single word did Peggotty speak. Releasing one of her arms, she put it down in her pocket to the elbow, and brought out some paper bags of cakes which she crammed into my pockets, and a purse which she put into my hand, but not one word did she say. After another and a final squeeze with both arms, she got down from the cart and ran away; and, my belief is, and has always been, without a solitary button on her gown. I picked up one, of several that were rolling about, and treasured it as a keepsake for a long time.
• The scene where David gets home from his trans-continental vacation of perpetual depression and meets up with his old buddy Traddles.
• "I have loved you all my life!"
• The pregnant young wife and her husband who helped Emily in her worst hour of need.
• The rather haughty and proud Mrs Steerforth having a Pet the Dog moment when she tells David that his mother would have been proud of the grown-up him.
• David's loving last exchange with Dora.
• A small moment involving the young David meeting and getting to hold his newborn stepbrother.
