  • In Black Panther (2016), Aneka and Ayo slaughter a band of militants and free their captives. Ayo comforts a young woman who was sexually abused by the militants, telling her that she deserved a Wakandan who cherished her. The scene doubles as a tearjerker.
  • In the Black Panther (2016) comic book, Shuri travels to Djalia (the realm of ancestral memory) with a spirit guide who assumed the form of her mother. While Shuri and the guide scale a mountain, the guide tells her the story of a woman who belonged to a village of people who could fly. In the story, the woman is captured, enslaved, kept underground, and made into a concubine by her owner. Eventually, the woman escapes and takes flight. Shuri is awestruck as the guide takes the form of a flock of birds and flies off into the blue sky.
  • In #16 of the same series, the surprising depth and nuance offered to, of all people, Thunderball of the Wrecking Crew, a brilliant radiation scientist who languishes under the comparison of “the black Bruce Banner”. T’Challa expresses a sincere admiration of his work and his ground breaking it is, showing compassion and saying there is still an opportunity for him to define himself not as a criminal or as a comparison point, but as himself, Dr.Eliot Franklin. It’s a really touching moment for a character who many wouldn’t even think twice about.
    • Doubled down on later in the series, when he gets recruited to help T’Challa and Wakanda as a whole with his scientific expertise in the light of Klaw’s return, a promise of redemption he could scarcely have imagined.
    • The finale of Coates’ run to shows how sincere the Wakandans were with the offer, with Thunderball happily getting to teach Advanced Physics at one of Wakanda’s universities in Birnin Azzaria as Dr.Eliot Franklin.
  • After all the distrust and unease between T’Challa and the Dora Milaje after the conclusion of “A Nation Under Our Feet”, seeing the Black Panther personally come to save a captured Ayo and Aneka and outfit all of the Dora with Midnight Angel suits to aid in the rescue brings the warrior women to tears, and revives their faith in their king.
  • In that same series, T'Challa admits to himself that he didn't join the Avengers to spy for Wakanda; he spied for Wakanda in order to join the Avengers, and that he loved being able to escape his royal duties for a while.
