Heartwarming / Beethoven

Go To

The first film:

  • The fact that siblings Ryce, Ted, and Emily regularly do activities together despite their age differences and with almost no bickering amongst each other.
  • Beethoven’s introduction to the family. He wanders all over the house until he finds Emily asleep in her room and he wakes her up by licking her face. Her siblings and mom go into her room and they fawn over the puppy thinking that George adopted him and wanted to surprise his family. Even after they learn the puppy wasn’t adopted by George, they insist on keeping him.
  • George apologizing to Beethoven for having to put him asleep telling him that "You were my dog too."
  • George decides to go and rescue Beethoven. The entire family goes with him.
  • Beethoven sharing food with the dog that helped him escape from Varnick's goons at the beginning of the film.
  • Beethoven's relieved affection towards Emily after rescuing her from drowning in her babysitter's pool, and her thank-you to him for saving her life.
  • When Ryce finds out Emily had fallen in the babysitter's pool and the babysitter is trying to cover it up so as not to get into trouble, she comes to her sister's defense.
Ryce: I'd like to call my mother, please.
    Babysitter: Your mother?
    Ryce: Immediately.
  • Even if they deserved what they got, Harvey and Vernon holding hands and then hugging in fear just as they’re about to be mauled by a bunch of dobermans does tug at the heart string. It hints they’re True Companions.
  • At the conclusion of the movie, Sparky, the little Jack Russell who'd helped Beethoven escape, ended up as a stray, and been a total hero during the climax of the movie, is curled up next to Beethoven on the Newton's bed.

Beethoven’s 2nd

  • Beethoven and Missy's relationship in general. Everything from the love-at-first-sight moment between the two dogs to their dates to their family is simply adorable. Puppy Love indeed!
  • The Newton kids devote most of their spare time feeding Missy’s puppies.
  • When Ted and Emily discover Beethoven and Missy's litter for the first time and pet the furry family in awe. Even though Missy is nearby as a new mother and the puppies are still young, she somehow knows that the Newton children are her mate's owners and takes kindly to their affection toward her and her puppies.
  • When Alice learns her kids have been secretly keeping puppies in the basement, the only thing she says is to not tell their father.
  • George sleeping with a puppy on his forehead during the montage of the puppies' growth.
  • Much like the first movie, George has been reluctant to keep Beethoven's puppies in his home, but once he learns about the puppies being taken away from Ted and the threat Regina poses to their lives, he and his family resolve to retrieve the puppies from the wretched woman.
  • A small but noteworthy one, while Sparky the Jack Russell is Demoted to Extra, the few times he is seen onscreen, he is shown to wear a collar, suggesting that some time after the first movie, he was finally adopted by a family of his own.
