Headscratchers / Welcome to the Game

  • In the "Where Am I?" ending, when Larry escapes onto the road, why are we given the impression that The Executioner will still succeed in killing him? The Executioner pops up when Elora and Father Donald are there. Elora should see this since she is facing the direction of this when it happens. Elora and Donald could potentially prevent The Executioner from killing Larry. Yes, I know Donald is a villain, but that does not guarantee that he wouldn't help.
    • It's possible that they did not notice him. It was quite dark where Larry ended up. Elora was probably focused on the road trying to catch a ride, not the woods. The bright light of a car coming towards you can be distracting - even blinding - and block out anything else. If Larry had made it further along the road where it's better lit, she may have noticed him. Donald actually seems to drive right past Larry, but it's possible he didn't see him. He probably only saw Elora because she was standing right next to the a street light, wearing white - which is reflective - and holding her arm out to gain a driver's attention. Also, considering Donald is also a murdering lunatic, he may not have bothered to help Larry, though as stated above, this is not necessarily the case. There's also the possibility he saw Larry, but chose Elora instead because he regarded her as a softer target.
  • why doesn't Lydia have any weapons to defend herself with? She's a potential rapist/murderer from what we know of her, and she's in a relationship with Charles, another potential murderer (and possibly also a rapist, if what he and Lydia were talking about in the "Who Am I" ending referred to finding a woman for them to rape/kill together, considering that the game seems to take place very shortly before the events of Rides With Strangers). You'd think that a psychopath who is in a relationship with another psychopath would have a knife with her at her computer to defend herself against The Kidnapper and The Breather. Why doesn't she get Charles to come help her out? She has an entire month to find a Red Room, and she never gets Charles to watch over her in all of that time? Charles doesn't even seem to know what she's been doing for the past month. He asks where she is, and she says she's not at home, implying the house she's at was a place she purchased for that one month. So, she left her home for an entire month, and in all that time she and her boyfriend/partner in crime never contacted each other and she didn't even tell him she had left, nor did he notice? What kind of relationship do they have? She knows that their are threats around her, and not only does she not get a weapon, but she doesn't call her boyfriend for backup on any one of those 30 nights? Is Lydia Stupid Evil?
    • Being a nymphomaniac, it's possible that Lydia revels in the danger of the situation, and has gone out of her way to make it more dangerous for herself.
  • Why do the Kidnapper and Breather just up and leave when the lights go out? They're not babies, they should have an understanding of object permanence. The lights suddenly going out means that someone must have been there to turn them off.
    • Few possibilities. Maybe they want to lull the victim into a false sense of security by making them think that worked. At the very least the Breather likes to have fun toying with his targets and it's possible the Kidnapper feels the same. The Breather is also established to hunt by his own code, so not catching someone they can't see could also be part of that code. Lastly, maybe the added difficulty of not knowing where in the house you are could be what deters them; they might not want to spend the extra time hunting that could be better spent on an easier target.
