Why does everyone act like this game technically didn't happen? Just because Mario was asleep for the adventure, doesn't mean a thing, considering that Subcon is the land of dreams. It just bugs me when people say things like: "SMB 2 was just a dream, so Peach and Toad were never heroes and it's just what Mario wishes would happen." I mean, it's not like Sonic '06 where the game wiped it's continuity, and so many elements from it were integrated into the mainstream Mario universe. So why is everyone so adamant it never happened?
Let's not forget the ACTUAL Super Mario Bros. 2. And let's also not forget what the game actually is. The game is technically canon if that's where your coming from.
