• In Night Train to Rigel, why does the Modhri (through Applegate) threaten to make Bayta join unless Compton tells him where the base is instead of just scratching her and then moving on to try to get Compton too? His goal is to suppress what Compton knows, and taking Compton out through making him join or killing him does just that. Sure, Bayta and probably Compton too would have probably killed themselves before they could be controlled, but that outcome is still a win for the Modhri.
