- How much did Crake know and when? The books never really let us into Crake's perspective (at least through this book) so while Jimmy, Ren, Zeb and the MaddAddamites all seem fully willing to believe Crake was playing them all along, there's not really any definitive evidence in some of these cases if Crake was a cruel a chessmaster as he might be.
- Is the third book really the last? We just don't get to know what really happened to Zeb, Katuro and Black Rhino? Damn it Atwood!
