Headscratchers / Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood

Go To

  • Daniel says feeling a bit scared is "one stripe scared". How may stripes is very scared and how many is in the middle?
    • It probably goes on a scale of one to five stripes scared. Five stripes is very scared, and three stripes is in the middle.

  • What kind of "cold" makes you very sleepy?
    • One with a fever that saps your energy and makes it difficult to sleep properly at night, causing you to feel tired the next day.
      • But he didn't become tired or start showing other symptoms until later in the morning.
    • Some people want to do nothin' but sleep when they aren't feeling well. For a li'l kid like Daniel, this would be no different.

  • How does Miss Elaina do cartwheels in the opening when we clearly see that her arms are shorter than the diameter of her head in all other scenes?

  • In Tiger Family Trip, how is it that Daniel and his family are able to co-opt Trolley for a lengthy Tiger family trip out of town if he's the only trolley? Was everyone else just out of luck until he got back if they needed him? For that matter, what determines who gets use of Trolley anyway?
    • Maybe there are extra trolleys, it's just they all have the title of Trolley?

  • In certain installments, the members of the Tiger family put on sunscreen when going outside. But how does that work if they're covered in fur?
    • In order to illustrate the importance of using sunscreen, they're treated as human-like just for that.
    • Or perhaps Fur Is Skin.
      • To protect the skin underneath or, at least, keep their fur from being sun-damaged. Furred animals don't always get sunburned but it can happen.

  • Despite Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood being a continuation of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, he has such a little direct influence on life in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe that he doesn't exist, yet Mr. McFeely does. I don't get it. Perhaps this is the neighborhood of Make-Believe which exists in the collective minds of those Mr. Rogers left behind, but if that's the case, why wouldn't his memory be more actively incorporated into life in the neighborhood?
    • Maybe initially, the Land of Make-Believe was just that— make-believe, existing in Mr. Rogers's mind, so when Mr. Rogers died, the characters who he dreamt up should disappear. But somehow, the world came to life instead, and they turned into non-imaginary beings who don't know he existed because having them be aware they weren't always real and initially only existed in some guy's mind would give them existential crises. Mr. McFeely either also had his memory wiped, or is keeping mum to protect the characters' sanity.
      • Or we could take it that "Make-Believe" is a different universe/world to our own, so, it's "real" in that sense but it sounds fictional to us. I mean, Mr. Rogers never said "Make Believe" wasn't real.

  • Is Trolley sentient?
    • Possibly.

  • Not to hate on "King Daniel for a Day", but I think that there should have been ways he could both be kind and do his duties: with the treat, he could have given half to O and half to King Friday, or gone back and bought another treat, and with the cymbals he could have simply played them for Miss Elaina, or given one to her and one to King Friday.
    • Perhaps, the episode was a Secret Test of Character. Of course, Daniel could have done those things but, at the end of the day, a king knows how/when to help his subjects and, by being kind, Daniel helped the subjects of Make-Believe.
      • But by doing the other things, he'd still be being kind.

  • In "Daniel Feels Better", Daniel sprains his foot after stepping on a toy vehicle. Is this injury possible in real life?
