• Why in the world does Frank hate being looked at so much?
  • It only seems to be when he's being looked at by Dorothy, and only when he's in the act of abusing her, so might be because eye contact with her makes him feel guilty about what he's doing.
• Why didn't Frank just kill Jeffrey when he had the chance and save himself a lot of trouble instead of just beating him up?
  • It's a small town. It's possible Frank knew that Jeffrey knew Detective Williams, especially considering he had a crooked cop as a business partner. Murdering a friend of a police officer is a good way to draw attention when you don't want it.
• Why did Frank lobotomize Gordon (besides "because otherwise Gordon would have wasted Jeffrey in the climax")?
  • It's possible Frank thought the police raid at the end of the movie happened either because Dirty Cop Gordon betrayed him or simply failed at his job to keep the police away from the drug operation. Why Frank lobotomized him instead of just killing him is still a mystery, though.
