Reactions from artists whose original ship girls have been "shanghai'd" for this fic?

  • As you know, certain members of a certain forum don't like the fic, but it's a wonder what the actual creators of the fan designs used - Siirakannu and the Orions, the Pacific team etc - think of their girls being here. Disturbed and disgusted? Happy to see them being used by others? Something else?
    • Upon checking out the works from both Siirakannu and jeanex/the Pacific team, and their works are mostly mainstream (in that from all the works seen, none of them show blood or general violence). There is a good chance that both parties will not approve of the depictions given to their respective original characters in this story due to reasons along the lines of excessive violence and over-the-top militarization (even for a premise that should be mostly military to begin with), because after all, Kantai Collection itself was never meant to be a true hardcore military simulator, just a Mildly Military premise involving cute girls with big guns fighting Abyssals at sea, and their characters are made in the spirit of the original game in question. In addition, it's been heard that the creators of Pacific have read and recommended another very well-known Kantai Collection fanfic called The Greatest Generation. Although the reputations of the story as opposed to this one seem to be on virtual opposite ends of the spectrum (unless this is grossly misinformed), so to think that jeanex and co. would approve of A:AFS is a crapshoot at best. Do keep in mind that A:AFS is, for all intents and purposes, a very niche-interest story with emphases on things like modern combat, gunplay, hypothetical modern naval warfare, and a nuclear apocalypse (whose premise isn't exactly all that realistic to begin with); and now, with a definite magical element thrown into the story, it becomes even more niche. The possibility that either Siirakannu or jeanex/the Pacific team would approve of the inclusion of their characters in this story is not likely.

Are we going to find more IJN ship girls outside the US, or known to have been somewhere else between being sent out from Japan and arriving in the US?

  • There are four IJN ship girls that are either found outside of the US, or revealed to have been in possession of a foreign power before they're found in the US. Two of them (Kongou and Wakamiya) are being discounted because it's known almost immediately why they were in Europe in the first place. Harusame was found within the ruins of the central train station in Cologne, Germany, inside the Metal Slug, which itself was locked up in a secure container in the station. Asashimo figures out, after talking to the Zara sisters and learning exactly what Marco Santini was doing in a bid to secure weapons for his government, that she had been in possession of the Italian government prior to her being sold to the Typewriters in Chicago. In Harusame's case, the Metal Slug, along with Z1, Z3, Prinz Eugen, and Bismarck, were to have been transferred over to the Germans prior to the bombings. Someone may have snuck Harusame into the Metal Slug's cockpit before it was sent over. In Asashimo's case, she somehow ended up in the possession of the Italian government instead of being sent over to the US like all the other IJN girls made by Seal Helix (Sanford's crew). As of Chapter 344, how she even got there is still a mystery.

So what are Specimens and Reality Marble ghastly abominations doing in Russia?

  • The first chapter of Operation All Russian shows Specimens and ghastly things attacking the town of Akatyevo, as the girls were passing by on their way to Moscow. What's more, those ghastly things are the same as those that appeared in Baltimore under Damon's Reality Marble, and in Booneville under Mk1!Samidare's Champion of Koprulu Reality Marble. We then find out from the surviving residents that both these things started popping up and attacking EVERY POPULATION CENTRE within a 150km radius of Moscow as of two years prior, which corresponds with the time the original Battle of Baltimore happened. So now we have a few problems......
    • Baltimore was where the Specimens first appeared. The US government were Playing with Syringes back then and their products, those specimens, most likely broke containment and ran amok on both the Federal forces and the rebels they were fighting against, causing the government to quickly quarantine the entire city as fast as they could. Now if they enforced the "No one in, no one out" rule with force, how did they end up on the other side of the Atlantic at around the same time? And how come, two years later, there's still enough of them to continue attacking civilian centres in the affected area?
      • Addressed: Some higher-up in the US government, maybe Blackwood himself, and their counterpart in the Russian government, had intentionally allowed a number of these specimens to be transported by air from the US and unloaded in Russia.
    • The ghastly abominations joining the Specimens on the attack were depicted as having come out of hell-like portals, which themselves came out of nowhere. However, these things, prior to the girls encountering them in Russia, appeared only in Reality Marbles generated by Damon (unconsciously), and Mk1!Samidare (oh very much intentionally). If every population centre within that 150km radius of Moscow had been under attack by these things as well for the past two years, it may be safe to say that the ENTIRE affected region is under the effect of a Reality Marble of its own. Who's responsible for it? It's too early to tell.

Why does Kawakaze have the Raging Storm and the Reppuken/Shippuken?

  • in chapter 365, we learn that the author is trying to get some kind of Rock Howard-Geese Howard connection/relationship going on between the two Samidares, with all the references to Garou: Mark of the Wolves in the chapter, but as if through Foreshadowing, in a previous chapter, Kawakaze is seen fighting the specimens from the aforementioned entry in Russia using attacks like the Raging Storm, the Reppuken, and the Shippuken after procking her special protocol state with Damon's energy help. These attacks are supposed to belong to the Howards, no? And in this story, the Howards' counterparts are the two Samidares. Why does Kawakaze know how to use these attacks when neither Samidare has even been shown to use them themselves? Perhaps it's a kind of family-shared moveset? Samidare and Kawakaze are technically sisters, after all, if only ship sisters, and seeing that this story follows the whole "magic is inheritable" school of thought, there's nothing that says that a niece can't inherit a power or two from an aunt. It's just odd to see Kawakaze using moves that should belong to her sister, who's never used them before when, in retrospect, it would be expected that she should have used them.
