The Tenth Doctor and Martha arrive. Martha discovers a fob watch similar to John Smith's in 1913. After breaking the perception filter, Yana opens the watch and becomes the Master. His assistant shoots him, but he regenerates. He escapes in the Doctor's TARDIS, but not before the Doctor locks its controls, and escapes to 2007. The Doctor, Jack and Martha return roughly 18 months after this point using Jack's vortex manipulator. The Master returns here with his wife, Lucy, as here and the early 21st century are the only stops permitted. The humans of the future, after discovering Utopia to be desolate turn in on themselves, becoming what was later dubbed the "Toclafane". The Toclafane are sent by the Master back to 2008 Earth, but Jack shoots the paradox machine that allowed them in, hurtling them back to the year 100 trillion.
