Funny / Tom Hanks

  • Many of his early roles were guest spots on sitcoms where he demonstrated a knack for physical comedy that would put comedians known for such humor to shame. As demonstrated in this clip where he fights the one and only Fonzie.
  • His appearance on Saturday Night Live where he played a completely moronic version of himself on Celebrity Jeopardy is one of the all-time funniest moments in the sketch's history, as see here.
    • Not to mention his actual appearances as a host on SNL (including the time where he got to be the one to coin the phrase "Five Timers' Club"). Some clips include the "Tenth Reunion" sketch with Jon Lovitz.
    • Recently, his performance as the insanely memetic David S. Pumpkins drew significant praise.
  • His appearance in a clip of Jimmy Kimmel Live, where he appears as an overbearing father to his young fictional "daughter" in a parody of Honey Boo Boo and her mother.
  • Declaring at a presentation for Cloud Atlas that his favorite part was getting to "throw a critic off a balcony to his horrible crushing death," while laughing maniacally.
  • Not as big as the rest in the page, but starring in Carly Rae Jepsen's video "I Really Like You" and lip-syncing the whole song is too visually dissonant to even attempt to take seriously.
  • Bestowing the nickname "Coco" upon Conan O'Brien during the second episode of his short tenure hosting The Late Show. Later, on Conan, Conan jokingly said to him "You've ruined my life!"
  • His repeated roles as characters who encounter disaster while traveling (see Apollo 13, Cast Away, Captain Phillips, and Sully) have given rise to the "Never Travel with Tom Hanks" internet meme.
