In Chapter 9, the survivors briefly discuss saving the abnormal Titan who's been killing the other Titans and is now pinned to a wall by several foes as big as he is, missing both arms. Before they finish the discussion, the abnormal Titan proceeds to kill the remaining enemies with nothing but his teeth, prompting one of the survivors to note, awestruck, "Hey, who was it you wanted to save again?"
In Chapter 15, we flashback to the recruits' initiation rite, where a Drill Sergeant Nasty stalks up and down their ranks, intimidating each of them into submission. Then he gets to Sasha, who is busy eating a potato. When he questions her about this, she offers him half. His expression is priceless.
Also, in the anime's depiction of this point in the series, Sasha collapses next to the dorms after she finishes the laps she had to do as punishment. Christa then walks by with food. Sasha smells it, her glowingred eyes shoot open and she launches towards Christa like a rocket! She catches the bread in her mouth, and then Christa reveals that she got it for her, but also brought some water to drink. Sasha sees Christa surrounded by angelic feathers, and asks if she is a god. She even screams god at the top of her lungs, jarring many viewers who were wearing headphones.
When Jean and Eren were almost caught fighting when the Drill Sergeant Nasty walked into the mess(hall), Mikasa said that Sasha farted.
YMMV at the end of the chapter during basic position control training. While everyone is doing well, an entire page is dedicated to Eren hanging upside down. He tries again but slams his head against the ground and almost dies as a result.
"He was like "I'm gonna slaughter them titans to the last" wans't he?"
"I hear he almost killed himself on basic position control training."
"Seriously? I can't imagine how someone could fail at that..."
Episode three of the anime has Jean's first meeting with Mikasa. He falls completely head over heals for her when she walks by, taken aback by her attractive Asian features. He even says that he's never seen a face like her's before.note Mikasa is noted to be the last of her kind, which are referred to as the orients. Then he sees her walking off with Eren. Connie then walks by, and Jean wipes his hand on his shirt. Connie asks what he just wiped on him. Jean explains that it was his faith in humanity.
Also in that episode is the instant when the instructor is dressing down the recruits, and he sees Sasha just standing there having a snack. And when he calls on her, she actually looks around to see who he's talking to. And has great difficulty understanding why she did anything wrong.
In Chapter 16, after Eren looks like he is about to flunk out of military training Mikasa says not to worry about going back to farming. Eren leaves when Mikasa is still talking, but the funny thing is she was saying she would follow him back to the farm, while blushing. After finishing her sentence, she see that Eren left a long time ago and Sasha was sitting next to her. Mikasa's expression was priceless, then Sasha asks for her bread. Which Mikasa teases her for and eats it herself.
In chapter 39, Christa is tending to Reiner's wounded arm after a Titan bit it, when this pops into his head: "Just marry me already". Then Ymir complains about a cut finger to Christa - obviously to get her attention - and Connie just tells her to "just spit on it and you'll be peachy".
Even before this, when Christa arrived with additional horses, and thus saved Armin, Jean and Reiner from being stranded in Titan territory, their thoughts are:
"I wanna marry her."
"She's a god sent."
"Goddess"
YMMV for some but Reiner casually revealing that he was the Armored Titan was this for a few fans. As in just one tiny frame reveal type instead of the huge page reveal. A lot of people had to do a Double Take just to see whether they skipped a page or not.
In chapter 41, Eren fights a Titan against orders. Upon killing it, he shouts, "I did it! My first kill as a Scout!" before he nearly gets crushed by the body.
Episode one of the anime, Armin is getting beat up by some bullies who are angry about him outsmarting them in an argument. Eren comes running, and the bullies are confident that they can take him on. But then they see Mikasa with the most deadpan serious look on her face, her head bobbing up and down like a hummingbird's wings as she follows Eren. That's when the bullies start to haul ass.
Probably doubles as Nightmare fuel, but in the the first episode of the anime, Hanes preparing to attack the overbearing Titan to protect Eren's family. But then Hannes took one good LONG look at the HUGE Titan's Slasher Smile. He then immediately returned back and grabbed Eren and Mikasa, with his tail between his legs.
Chapter 44: Eren remembers during his training as he and Annie practice, Annie has him in a lock. Then all of a sudden Reiner falls from the sky, Annie dodges, Eren was not so lucky. Mikasa reveals she threw Reiner.
In episode 6 of the anime, the scene of a Titan charging at a group of civilians may be ruined for some by the way its arms are awkwardly waving at it's sides.
And the fact that there's a random soldier just walking around minding his own business before being kicked away offscreen.
Somewhere out there on the internet there's an animated .gif of the floppy-armed Titan, edited to have a piece of toast hanging out of its mouth in the tradition of every hapless anime protagonist rushing out the door mid-breakfast: "Titan-san is late for school!"
Annie versus Eren in hand-to-hand combat training. Reiner puts Eren up to it, and Annie floors him so easily she actually manages to look more bored than she was before... and then she tells Reiner it's his turn. The next frame is Reiner on his back, knees on the ground, ass-end up. In a weird way, it's even funnier after you find out that all three of them are Titan-shifters.
Reiner during the ambush in Chapter 9, where he confidently declares that, just in case, everyone should be aware that Titans have a second weakness! Connie seems to think he's serious. Becomes more amusing with the revelation that he's both gay and a Titan Shifter.
In Chapter 41, Christa standing on the edge of the tower and fist pumping while cheering Ymir on. Everyone else looks horrified
