Funny / Mortal Kombat: Desperation

Go To

For all its darkness, drama and angst, Mortal Kombat: Desperation has some funny moments:

  • While trapped inside Ermac, Shao Kahn is repeatedly told to shut up by Jerrod.
  • Kai playfully running away from Liu Kang while yelling for Kung Lao so he can ask about Liu Kang's relationship with Kitana to lighten the mood.
  • It's funny and sweet to read the conversation amongst Fujin, Jax, Kitana, Liu Kang, Jade/Delia, Kung Lao and Kai about Johnny Cage. While they do still consider him a clown, they have grown to respect him.

Fujin: Are Sonya Blade, Johnny Cage and Cassandra Cage…alright?
Jax: [shakes head] No, but they will be. Sonya and Cassie are both tough and Johnny'll be there for 'em if they need anything.
Liu Kang: He has changed much over the years. I remember when I first met him. How irritated I was by how he spoke with Raiden as well as his sense of humor.
Kai: Don't forget his movie references. I've only met him a handful of times, yet it was more than enough to make me want to smack him upside the head.
Kung Lao: Let us not forget that he had the personality resembling sanding paper. Then again, sanding paper has a better personality than him.
Kitana: What Sonya Blade sees in him is beyond me.
Jade: The amount of times he referred to me as a pole dancer is offensively uncountable.
Fujin: [groans] I recall one incident when he asked me if I 'broke wind' then proceeded to run away screaming as I tried to strike him down. Even as he ran, he said things such as how he was 'gone with the wind' and asked me to stop trying to 'blow him away'.
Jax: [deadpan] 'Tin man'. That's his nickname for me.
Kai: You think that is bad? I can go on all day about the jokes he has made about Master Bo' Rai Cho's weight, one of which involved comparing him to a pregnant whale.
(Both Liu Kang and Kung Lao exchange glances with each other.)
Liu Kang & Kung Lao: We are going to kill him.
Fujin, Jax, Jade, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Kai and Kitana, in regards to Johnny's personality in Chapter 45.
  • Kano mocks Daegon, only to get punched in the face upon realizing the demigod is standing right behind him.
I swear, I don't get why Raiden recruited him. He's a damn coward, loser, moron and mama's boy if ya ask me. (his lieutenants and mooks notice Daegon right behind him) I'm gonna assume by your silence that ya agree with me, right? [They shake their heads 'no'] Then why are ya… [he realizes that Daegon is behind him] He's right behind me, ain't he? [they nod] Damn it!
Kano, mocking Daegon, in Chapter 48.
  • It's hard not to laugh at Shao Kahn's plight in this story. Not only does he start out as an annoying voice in the back of Ermac's mind whom Jerrod repeatedly tells to shut up, but then his soul is stolen by Shang Tsung, who resurrects him into a brainwashed slave. Although Shao Kahn is completely aware of his actions, he lacks control over them and can only mentally utter curses and threats to his enemies
  • It's both heartwarming and amusing to see Kevin and Cassie quoting random well-known movies, especially when Kevin bursts into uncontrollable laughter after Cassie quotes The Mask.
