  • In "God's Business is Good Business", James is offered a lucrative job working for Rev. Sam, an old army buddy who's now a Reverend Ike expy. When he comes to pick James up, it's revealed that one of the disciples he healed of his paralysis at the revival service is actually his personal chauffeur. This leads to this priceless exchange.

    Florida: What 'cha got to say 'bout that, Reverend?
    • Also this line when Sam meets Florida.
    Reverend Sam: Honest James, Married. I'll be damned!
    Florida: In due time.

  • In "The Dinner Party," the Evans family invites a neighbor to dinner after learning she's so poor she eats dog food. Then they're nervous when she brings a meat loaf to the party. In an effort to stall the beginning of the meal, JJ offers grace. Everyone bows their heads and folds their hands, and JJ begins reverently:

  • Though it certainly was not played for laughs whatsoever, the infamous “Damn! Damn! Damn!” has been humorously quoted and parodied in various other sitcoms over the years.
  • Florida, being overwhelmed with housework, sums it up with "Oh, Abe...you freed our people, but you forgot about me!"
