Funny / Baldi's Basics in Education and Learning

Go To

Baldi's Basics may be a horror game, but there's a reason why it's called a parody of crappy 90s edutainment games.

All spoilers will be unmarked, per wiki policy. You Have Been Warned.

The Original Game

HOORAY! YOU DID A BASIC MATHS!
  • A lot of what's written on the blackboards qualify as this.
    • "Look! A Homestar Runner reference!"
    • (Insert Lore here)
    • "Doug, dab again and pay"
    • "Today's Lesson: How to eat Cheese"
    • An easter eggs blackboard reads: "THIS GAME IS A CANCER"
    • An older version of the game had "Sorry, ran out of time to add more subjects."
      • The blackboard now reads "Sorry, was too lazy to add more subjects."
    • "The world is big. Class dismissed."
  • Solving the first notebook successfully simply nets you...
  • Playtime's quote after you win her game. It sounds like mystman12 was making up the dialogue on the spot, and struggling to do so. The way Playtime's enthusiasm awkwardly deflates is just hilarious.
"Wowwww! That's great! Let's play again... sometime soon..."
  • If you get every question in a notebook wrong, instead of the usual "I HEAR EVERY DOOR YOU OPEN" or "I GET ANGRIER FOR EVERY QUESTION YOU GET WRONG", the game says "I HEAR MATH THAT BAD", as if it were making fun of you for getting the questions wrong. Hilariously, it's true, "bad math" (aka this specific scenario) is one of the "audio cues" that Baldi uses to locate you.
  • The Endless Mode icon shows Baldi buried under a pile of notebooks.
  • How does locking doors using the Yellow Door Lock work? By slapping a giant padlock on them.
  • Gotta Sweep is funny in general. There are his only two lines ("LOOKS LIKE IT'S SWEEPIN' TIME!" "GOTTA SWEEP SWEEP SWEEP!"), his Wild Card nature, which makes it very possible for him to hilariously whisk Baldi away from you, and the fact that he's just a broom. No cartoon face or anything.

The Kickstarter

  • In the Kickstarter Demo, there's two hallways which leads to a black/white wall bluntly saying "The demo ends here." Continuing past one of the walls leads you to another wall saying "...No, seriously, that's it.", then "STOP! There's nothing else!", and finally "You'll regret this...", which leads you to 'The Principal of the Thing', who says "No Breaking the Fourth Wall in the halls!"
  • Putting wood in the fire will trigger a loud, echoing, overly enthusiastic "WOW!" from Baldi, (despite him being nowhere to be seen, no less.)
  • How does "It's a Bully" work in the kickstarter demo? Why, by disguising himself as a tree then taking all of your sticks, of course!
    It's a Bully: ''I want those sTiIiCkS!"
  • The Kickstarter video. Highlights include:
    • The cheesy 'world wide web' sequence, which shows someone on an exercise bike (badly) operating a laptop with Baldi's face on the back.
Joey: [After mashing his hands and face on the keyboard] "I'm on the world wide web! *awkwardly flips hat* That flips my hat backwards!"
    • Micah listing the features the new Baldi game will have, by awkwardly flapping his mouth and having a separate voice list the new features, as well as saying 'times' and 'equals' in place of 'and'.
      Micah: "Oopsit'soutofhteshotsorryaboutthat!"
    • "Will there be LOOOORE?", as well as how he "answers" that question.
    • While listing the Kickstarter rewards, take a close look at the Baldi faces that are seen at each reward. The third face is Baldi's scowl upside-down, and the fourth one has Baldi's smile turn into a ridiculously goofy smile, so big it's clipping into itself and bending into a glitchy shape and his eyebrows practically fly off his face.
    • One of the images you can submit to the game if you back $500 or more is "that unfinished drawing from ten years ago with the uncanny fingers that still haunt your nightmares from this day."
    • Micah kicks off 'Serious Time' by attempting to smack a sock (Which is actually Arts and Crafters) with his ruler.
Lemino*: "Micah: Now its serious time. PROCEEDS TO MURDER ARTS AND CRAFTERS"
  • The livestream in which Micah attempts to beat Baldi's Basics is also pretty hilarious as well:
  • For the first public demo, a new item was introduced to distract Baldi in the form of an apple. Baldi eats the apple by rapidly jamming it against his mouth, making crunching noises with every change in animation frame, and randomly going "Yum!"
  • Mrs. Pomp's drawn-out tantrum that occurs when the player fails to get to her classroom in time ends with a calm and chipper "class dismissed" line, as if it was just another typical lesson schedule for her.
  • One of the random events is that Baldi breaks his own ruler, rendering him unable to actually harm the player until he gets a new one but also making his movements completely silent. It turns out repeatedly slapping it against his hand may not be the best idea...

Classic Remastered

  • Null's first appearance is still incredibly awkward and surreal, but from there, he starts to get more petulant, sarcastic and whiny in tone as he gets angrier at you, jokingly pointing out all of the "lore" in Baldi's Basement when you find him in Demo Style. Combined with his horrid sound quality, he sounds like a little kid cursing you out on a multiplayer game.
  • Baldi's Basement has one room full of books related to math in education. Hilariously, no matter what grade you're looking into, the text is always the game silly Stylistic Suck you'd expect from this game.
  • NULL Style, while generally creepier than the normal game, has Null talking on occasion as he hunts you down. At random, he will say "!emag eht yortseD" over and over before asking you bluntly if that scared you.
    • During the final battle, you have to toss glitchy assets at Null to defeat him. These assets include Baldi's banana.
      • The sound he makes when you hit him is also pretty good, being a pained groan with a lot of reverb.
  • Following the successful completion of the Brutal Bonus Level, some secret endings begin to have funny moments of their own:
    • In the Classic Style secret ending, Baldi gives you some actual help about the maths problems, telling you that if the first number of a subtraction is smaller than the second, the result will be negative. It takes you failing every single problem for him to actually help when he could have just helped you with the second notebook instead of going crazy and trying to kill you.
    • In the Party Style secret ending, Baldi congratulates the player for finding him and gets them to listen to a song he made, called "Baldi's Funtime Song". He doesn't do a good job on it, and even the captioning makes fun of this.
      *Horrible, absolutey dreadful music plays*
    • In Baldi's Basement, he offers the player an opportunity to help him test out his new shrink machine. Once the player activates it, however, it malfunctions and explodes on the inside, leaving Baldi dizzy and admitting that the machine needs a few tweaks.
      • Funnily enough, you can press the button before Baldi can even get a chance to speak to you, causing his machine to blow up while he's waiting inside it. YouTuber PhuCat103 discovered this purely by accident.
