Fridge: Samurai 7
  • I've been watching Samurai 7 and I realized why I like the science fiction/Schizo Tech in this series as well as in Desert Punk, another Gonzo series. I remembered this comment made by Gene Wolfe about the setting of his Book of the New Sun series, which I think is really applicable to both anime. It's to the effect that people wouldn't really differentiate between travel by water and Casual Interstellar Travel, because for the average peasant, both are about equally out of their reach. In all these works, we (the audience) know they are science fiction, but the characters don't, because most of them are focused on getting by day-to-day and so can't really pay much attention to the advanced cyborgs and other stuff they run across. - Jordan
