Fridge Brilliance

  • How could DJ and Nebbercracker have possibly returned all the stolen toys to their rightful owners after the house was destroyed? DJ's hobby was spying on Nebbercracker, and he made logs whenever the man took what landed on his lawn.
  • When DJ and Chowder attempt to warn Jenny about the house, Jenny mocks them by asking them if they are mentally challenged before Constance attacks her. It's implied through dialogue (which was spoken in front of the house) that DJ and Chowder are social outcasts at their school, and, as we get to see later on, Constance used to be a side show freak who was constantly mocked by others. Perhaps Constance specifically decided to attack Jenny when she insulted the boys in a rare moment of pity and understanding towards her two attempted victims?
    • This could also apply to the two officers, as Officer Lister was actually mocking Chowder's weight ("You got somethin' to say Porky? A-budeep budeep?") right before the house appears to make a noise that attracts the cops attention, then attacks Officer Lister first when they go to investigate. Constance was mocked for her size and weight, so hearing Lister mock someone for the same right in front of her, even someone she hates, would likely hit her Berserk Button hard.
  • Nebbercracker suffering a heart attack was probably long overdue: on top of having to play an angry old man, the added stress of dealing with a vengeful house for a wife, having no real friends, remorse for terrorizing and stealing from children, and living a life of isolation would've also damaged his heart.
  • One could easily dismiss Constance's outburst towards the trick-or-treaters as her being a Child Hater, but think about it: she was routinely humiliated and ridiculed for the majority of her life as a circus act, had things thrown at her by heckling carnival attendees, and was fiercely protective of her newfound freedom. The poor woman likely had undiagnosed, untreated PTSD from all that past mistreatment.

Fridge Horror

  • DJ felt guilty for what happened to Nebbercracker and believes he's murdered him. Keep in mind that he's only 12 years old. Imagine the grave psychological implications a kid his age would've suffered if Nebbercracker hadn't returned near the end of the movie.
    • If the deeply unsettling nightmare involving a large, shadow hand attacking him in his sleep is any indication, DJ was already starting to suffer from the trauma.
  • If Nebbercracker constantly warned children they'd be eaten alive and later revealed to DJ that his house attacks anyone who comes near it, that probably means that the Monster House has most likely devoured other human victims in the past, and Nebbercracker has witnessed it.
    • This is later confirmed in a graphic novel based on the movie, which has Bones explore the house's grotesque basement, and he comes across skeletons of a mailman, a milk man, a salesman, a dog with a frisbee still in its mouth, and many others. Keep in mind how long those people must've been in there, crying for help, and having nobody hear them until they all ultimately starved to death.
    • This raises even more disturbing implications. Nebbercracker carries a terrible burden of living in a man-eating house. All this time Nebbercracker was hiding thousands of dead bodies in his basement, and since he is seen by the entire neighborhood as a weird, crazy old man who ate his wife and talks to his house, he is probably unable to tell anyone because no one would believe his house was responsible, and would most likely be deemed as a murderous person.
    • It becomes more disturbing the more you think about it. If the house hadn't uprooted itself from its foundation to chase Nebbercracker and the kids through the neighborhood, then all the victims we saw in the movie (Bones, the policemen and the dog), would've suffered the same fate.
      • Alternatively they were instantly grinded up by the house's throat.
  • While Skull just says that a Domus Mactabillis consists of a human soul merging into a structure, Constance's spirit is shown to have merged not only with the house, but also with all the plants in the house's garden. How must the trees and grass have felt when they lost all control to Constance's spirit? Even worse, what if any insects (like ants) ventured onto Nebbercracker's lawn?
  • More like Fridge Squick than Horror, but we never see what the water guns were filled with while the trio prepared themselves to send the doll to Constance. Later on, when the trio is inside and they shoot water at Constance's uvula, the liquid is yellow. What may DJ and Chowder have done with their bottled urine?
    • The yellow color could've just been due to the house's lighting and their flashlights.
  • If the original script for the movie is relevant to the final product, then that would mean Mr. Nebbercracker never leaves his house in fear that it will attack innocent people in his absence. How has Nebbercracker been able to survive for so long inside that home?
    • A graphic novel based on the film also suggests that Nebbercracker has tried to leave, but the house won't let him.
    • A line from Mr N. in the original script makes Nebbercracker's captivity in the house all the more tragic.
    • He even mentions to DJ at the end of the movie, that he and his wife had been trapped for 45 years.
    • It is possible that he had all his groceries and medical bills delivered (considering that he had a telephone, which Constance used to intimidate DJ) and had some kind of unemployment income. It wouldn't be unreasonable to believe that he was able to talk Constance into letting any doctors or delivery people onto the property just for quick visits before hastily sending them on their way.
  • The kids who threw eggs at Constance and made her fall to her death are going to live the rest of their lives with the knowledge that they unwillingly murdered someone.
    • Assuming they were guilty at all. At worst, they probably told her grieving husband something like "they won't have to stare at the tub of lard anymore" and continue to mock him until they probably got eaten by the house as revenge. Presumably they were her first victims, and further cemented (no pun intended) her belief that Kids Are Cruel.
    • Assuming they didn't get eaten offscreen, who's to say they weren't the ones who started the rumors of Nebbercracker being a cannibal who fattened up his wife and subsequently murdered and ate her?
  • The conflict stems from Nebbercracker suffering a heart attack. Imagine if he wasn't able to get out of the hospital in time to stop Constance and what kind of havoc she could've unleashed?
  • Going on the above, what if Nebbercracker actually dropped dead of a heart attack. Leaving aside there being no one who could stop Constance from going on a rampage, how would she have reacted? Would she have simply departed to the afterlife with Nebbercracker? Or would she continue to attack people who go near her? Or would she go even more crazy with Nebbercracker not at home with her?
