Film: Malcolm

Malcolm is a gentle Australian comedy movie from 1986 about a slightly intellectually impaired orphaned adult and what happens when he takes in a new boarder who happens to be a petty criminal just released from gaol. It was the first film directed by Nadia Tass and starred Colin Friels in arguably his first big role. It is set in and was filmed in Melbourne, Australia. The Melbourne trams and the city's inner suburbs formed an integral part of the storyline.

The title character is a tram enthusiast with high-functioning autism or Asperger's Syndrome. And although a lot of the comedy comes from Malcolm's interactions with the other characters, the film doesn't make fun of the condition as such.
