Tropes for the film:

  • Citizenship Marriage: A variation. A low-ranking Mafia hood is dating the ex-wife of Thomas Hacklin. When the mafiosi gets arrested, he marries her because the court will be more lenient on a married man (and also so she couldn't be compelled to testify against him). Then he decides to testify against his boss and the Feds put him in Witness Protection along with his family which includes Thomas's children, and their father spends the rest of the movie trying to track them down.
  • Not in Front of the Kid: A variant when Thomas's ex-wife complains about her gangster boyfriend making a derogatory remark about her ex-husband as they're leaving the house.
Jack: You've said the same thing about him too!
Ruthie: Not in front of the kids I don't!
  • Tagline: "In June 1967, the U.S. Department of Justice abducted this man's children. If the same thing happened to your kids, how would you get them back?".
  • Witness Protection: Thomas is trying to find his children, who went with their mother and step-father after his ex-wife's new husband leaves organized crime and goes into Witness Protection.
